True! I also have a dilemma with Tinybones, as I run 3 Duress and 1 Tinybones. It's good in the matchups where I'm already ok so I suppose I should cut it and run 4 Duress but... Tinybones!!!

I think they both have their pros and cons. Tome is a little better in the grindier match ups

try to build something that fairs well against all the different strategies sometimes the best answer isnt the meta itself....like adding things that other ppl arent playing.... but along with what astrall said it also comes down to how wizards is matching you....i wish theyd do away with how they pair players and make it literally random bc that would be closer to IRL.... for instance a few sets back i was playing domain and i was having a hard time against mono red aggro and i found that when i brough in parasitic grasp mono red decks no longer go qued against me as often.....

Having fun is the way to go imo

I'm all for having this discussion again but I've seen little evidence (but lots of anecdotal evidence) that this exists. If there was matchmaking done based off deck composition we'd see it in tracker data. This is, of course, only talking about matchmaking applied to the ranked ladder. They certainly have matchmaking values that have been leaked, as well as openly talked about by wotc, for casual and brawl play.

Arena uses a modified glicko 2 system to calculate your mmr and then uses this to determine your starting mythic rank. The higher the mmr, the higher the starting rank. The starting rank also changes throughout the season. So for the first 2 weeks, if you place as a percentile, you were matched with a slightly lowered mmr. But as the season progresses you can only enter as a percentile. For example, right as I type this message, the maximum rank you'd start with in mythic is 98.4%. Once in mythic your mmr is then calculated using a separate glicko 2 system for end of season placement. Hope that helps clarify :)

I like deduce more against a midrange match up where they're more likely to play around a counterspell, so you can deduce at eot to draw. Against the aggro in bo1 though that lifegain can come in clutch

I know some don't like the leyline mechanic in general but I think it's interesting

I don't sideboard in bo1 and the deck hasn't performed well in bo3 because it is so weak to sweepers. So really anything that you want/find useful. Get Lost to destroy Temporary Lockdown. Rest in Peace for 4c Reanimator and Azorius Oculus. Authority of Consuls for Mono-Red and Urabrask's Forge. Pawpatch Formation for Unholy Annex and Archfiend. Hope that helps :)

@@Arstall Thanks, I should have mentioned that I was wondering for bo3. I was thinking Surge of Salvation, Exorcise, and Dewdrop cure for starters. Maybe even Not on My Watch. But the trouble I always have is what do I take out to put in. I even like Crystal Barricade. Sorry to keep rambling, you're just a good magic player and I appreciate your thoughts.

Same goes for Get Lost. I like delaying the wraths with Invasion of Gobakhan and the flipped side is sort of like Surge of Salvation with upside. Exorcise could work over Requisition Raid but I like the go wide synergy. Most of the time we don't need to remove a single large threat since we can go around. We could run Elspeth's Smite instead of Authority of the Consuls. Pawpatch Formation instead of Dewdrop Cure. Case of the Gateway Express or Soul Partition if we needed more spot interaction but I think I'd try it out like this. Cheers :) edit: As far as substitutions go, your most likely cards out would be: Get Lost if it has no good targets. Seasoned Warrenguard if you're up against Midrange or Control. Aven Interrupter out if you're up against Aggro.

@@Arstall wow! I like the set-up. I'll definitely give it a shot. Yes, you are correct about spot removal since we can go around it. I did have Requisition Raid on the list for the sideboard as well. Aven Interrupter is such a good card. The only reason I put surge in is because a lot of folks at my game store are playing some sort of red aggro / burn. Plat is pretty good. Technically you can grind them to Mythic but it might take several hundred games

I'd say it feels very similar. Little better against Boros Auras because of having the ability to kill Heartfire Hero. Haven't played it enough to tell for certain

@Arstall I do wonder if there's any build potential for Bo3, but probably you start getting to the point where you might as well be playing something else that's more streamlined. I think there's some room for WG Stompy on the back of Wilt Leaf Liege and Burrowguard Mentor could make an appearance there. I just really like the rabbits but I prefer Bo3.

Being able to pump the board definitely came in handy more than once so I think it's a keeper. I liked Seasoned Warrenguard over Hinterland Sanctifier. I liked Sheltered by Ghosts for -2 Hinterland, -1 Season of the Burrow, and -1 land (I think). The deck can definitely use 24 lands so I'm tempted to go down to only 1 Warrenguard but either way it's close

Definitely demands that you run ample removal

If you haven't tried Emberheart Challenger I highly recommend it

We saw Orzhov Auras explored for a bit but it proved to be worse than Boros, Azorius, and Selesnya. As far as fitting into the Mono-Black Midrange shell, cards with 1CCC, like Bloodletter of Aclazotz, needs 21 sources of black to play 90% of the time on turn 4. 2CC, like Sheoldred, needs 16. So getting the mana base to work can be tricky. Also, Sheltered by Ghosts has been better on turn 2, specifically on a creature that gets bigger over time which is lacking in Black.
