That was so enjoyable. I took photos of the bigger Pyalong trestle in 2019. It has deteriorated a lot since then unfortunately. I remember driving on the road under it too a long time ago. Must get on me bike on the rail trail again, especially to see the Axedale station and it's truck. Thanks
Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed!!!

Your comments at Nyora are very interesting. Yesterday I rode from Leongatha to Nyora on the Great Southern railway and was looking for evidence of the Wonthaggi line at Nyora. It appears to travel parallel to the southern railway for maybe a kilometre in a trench below the level of the korumburra line then sweeps away to the south. As a child travelling by steam passenger service I remember waiting at Nyora on a branch line for the Wonthaggi train to come through before we could proceed to Melbourne. The whole train network is so full of history and it’s fascinating to find odd pieces of the railway furniture along the line.
@@Geoff-m7j it absolutely is!! Cheers for the watch

@@gerardcostello-j6b thanks for that! I’d forgotten after being told in a previous video too ahah!
The actual location of Derrinal station is on the other side of the McIvor Hwy. The platform mound being clearly visible there (on private property). When I first went this way in the 1980s, I thought it strange that the railway crossed the highway for the station and then crossed back. But upon further investigation, I realised that it was actually the highway that was realigned when Lake Eppalock flooded the original road, now Old Bendigo Road. It continues on the other side today as Moorabbee Foreshore Rd. Railtrails can be a bit misleading at times when they stray away from the original rail alignment. Obviously this can't be helped at some locations, but it can be a bit of a trap when you're unaware of it happening.
@@emdB67 yes! I was aware of this, just forgot to remind my self to add into the video! Cheers for that! Rail trails always do tend to stray from the allignments! Can be tricky!
@@Victorian_steam I figured you must've known. I mean it's hard to miss if you're using google's satelite imagery to plan your stops. 😉
@@emdB67 yeah was using it!
RAIL SHOULD NOT BE LIFTED ,IT MAY BE NEEDED
Unfortunate! But times change!
Well you might like to read the Castlemaine Maryborough Rail Trail Group's web site.
Went on the last train at Heathcote as a kid just before they ripped up the track. A lot of fun.
@@scottmclennan6114 wouldve been awesome !
I was on that trip in 1968, 56 years ago yesterday. 2:44 those are my photos on that board. I gave permission to local historical society to use them. Thanks for giving an up to date journey.I was surprised that you didn't include Kilmore. Kilmore was once the junction for Clarkefield via Lancefield branch. The line went through Bylands where the tramway museum is now located. Great informative video .
That’s amazing! Thanks for the watch
Still waiting for a forgotten railways - Mornington to Baxter line. It needs its own video.
Already done !
6:58 the wooden structure here is probably for running wires for signals and points (possibly telegraph wires as well)
Cheers for that !
Very interesting and great work guys. As a kid travelling to Bendigo from Melbourne we usually went the Heathcote way. There was more remaining then, including a bridge over the railway line, I think before Pylong when they straightened and widened the highway.
Cheers for sharing that and watching !
Very interesting good work. There is a spur line going into Mayfield park, East Bendigo which was an abattoir and previous freeze work . We dug up some old sleepers with a loader while cleaning up and still a couple in ground near the Mancala workshop. The loading platform is just near the brick chimney. The formation and junction is clearly visible.
That’s awesome ! Cheers for watch
Always amazes me ,what the old timers achieved with very little machinery, nothing stopped them!
Absolutely!!
I was doing deliveries all through this area just today, went to every town you mentioned. Good video guys
Cheers for the watch!
Went to Bendigo a while back and had a look around the workshops. Ended up finding those track and also found to loco service pits there as well. Still with rail on them too
Oh wow that’s awesome !!
Which heathcote the Victoria one or the NSW one?

The HY wagon at Axedale should not have the yellow stripe as only GYs were grain proofed , the stripe indicates it is grain proofed.

Nice video mate. Nice to see some old rolling stock restored. The HY wagon looks great.
@@NicholassTrainChannel cheers !!
verrrry interrrrresting. the line that cuts off at kilmore and goes beyond lancefield might be worth an episode too. it seems there was some shifty stuff involved in getting it built. i think it was expensive to build which means lots of cuttings etc. so the scenery might be photogenic.

I've seen a few vids of people making rail carts and running them on disused lines, that line is the only one I know of near me, however I didn't know it was that overgrown etc.
Very overgrown!
Went there in September 2011 and absolutely loved it
A great place!!
So much history. The endeavour to build the rail network in the 19th century never ceases to amaze me. Such beautiful buildings were built in support of the railway.
Absolutely!
Loved the vid , if its any help It's pronounced ' Yearing ' . Before my mother passed she used to tell how when she was a teenager the Station Master at Yering would hold the train for her when he saw her coming on her bike pedalling as hard as she could to catch the train
