One thing, the old furnace you pointed out, next to the Mansfield station, was probably to heat water for the steam engine that powered the machinery in the sawmill.

Ah yeah! The one that i had shown in the video was used to burn off saw dust and old timber

That shed you were stumped on, looks like an old engine shed. Hence the high roof and the tall doorway.

Would’ve been my guess too ! Will have to see old photos !

Thank you for the video. Heading up to Mansfield in a couple of weeks and looking forward to checking out the trail.
So easy to spend the entire day exploring.
Recommend doing the grain silo station run to Yarrawonga. You'd enjoy that.

Late last year, walked from Tallarook to the Granite station site, terrific walk,a few telegraph poles along the old line is the main remnant left here,in early 70s the local church booked a excursion train to Yea,our steam engine broke down at Graigeburn and a T-class diesel locomotive came up from Melbourne and did the entire journey,l remember the views down to the Goulburn River from the train alas only memories now

Nice video mate. That line has so much history. I remember stopping off at Yea a few times when my family went up to lake Eildon for a holiday! and when I went to Canberra for school camp in 2016.

I reckon the livestock loading dock at Merton would have had the big gate loading cattle and the smaller one loading sheep.

Many years ago the shed at Cheviot was used by Pivot to store fertiliser. My brother worked for Pivot and remembers the shed in operation. I am not sure if it was before the line closed.

Oh wow that’s great to know it was used after the closure !

A guess, but suggest the Cheviot shed looks like an engine shed?

    • @Victorian_steam
