Not gonna lie though, the difference between her and Chiaki is that Chiaki's not interesting or I cared about her actions despite actually had a lot of effects about it, when her character flaws and how it actually annoy someone are lacking. The only flaw she did is that she failed to protect everyone, and even I'm actually peeved about her both the game and the anime, though even she has a lot of screentime, she lacked or is limited in terms of flaws that's why I disliked Chiaki, because she's perfect, I wished there's more exploration within her character Ai Chiaki's character should explore more about her bluntness and "Not feely" attitude that does come across as "someone who doesn't concern" people and how people would get affected by it, instead of giving us little scenes. If there's more scenes where she does had enough (especially the Akane slap scene) that would make her multilayered. And Anime Chiaki should explore more about her couldn't fit in socially at first and how she struggles making friends with it (I mean I forgot the term where someone couldn't socially get in?) , and further stress her out and Chisa eventually tried to help her more with friendships. On the other side, Kaede Akamatsu is actually the opposite, she had an effect on people especially pushing people way too far their limit it does give her more believable flaws than Chiaki did, because it affected people, especially how Maki called Kaede out in chapter 1 herself meanwhile, Chiaki does little. Kaede herself is also very sassy herself, and would be easily she get mad especially her scenes with Mui. Like yes! She is a character that actually affected people only by her death get character fringe and replaced by Shuichi, so I was mad, since Kaede is already interesting, it's a shame that the Dr team did improve their writing but the removing it all away, especially how interesting a protagonist could get. Kaede and Chiaki's have pro's and cons, but Kaede had more pros than hers though. But they both had different problems, character wise.

The thing is you can have a flirtatious character without having it border on sexual harassment the game plays up Teru Teru’s perversions a bit too much I personally think he suffers just a bit from being the first murderer which makes it hard to build attachment to him especially considering it’s hard to max any of the characters FTE’s before the first trial but I quite like Teru Teru because his design so heavily contrasts his background he plays himself up as the over the top Euro-Western style chef with all the stereotypical mannerisms when he’s more of a rustic family diner cook so he’s trying to hide appear more fancier than he is which you can see in the flashback before Hopes Peak he’s way more of a country bumpkin mama’s boy my guess is that after moving out of the big city he became enamored by city life especially the style and it reflects in how he now presents himself from his clothes to his hair and gestures and all of this really serves to highlight how well I think his breakdown works in the class trial problem for me a bit though and this stems from all Social Link, FTE, and etc type social systems in games were in order to learn more about a character you have to actively engage with this mechanic to get to know them which helps add to their characterization in important ways

There is one elephant in the room everyone should address: The auditions do say that "killing everyone" and "doing the most gruesome murders" is a possibility. However, this contradicts important rules of the Killing game: You only have a limited amount of people to kill, and after that, you can only hope to get other students killed by getting away with a murder. The auditions do not take into account the main rules of Danganronpa, which makes me think they're not trustworthy in the slightest.

The prologue definitively confirms the audition tapes are fake. The Monokubs confirm no one had their memories tampered with prior to their first "awakening" due to a production error on their part. That means Kaede's memory of being abducted off the street is real. No one intervened because everyone knew what it was for. This is the "rotten world" Kaede was referring to.

I think the tapes are fake specifically because the mastermind of this game literally spends the trial pretending to be other people Also the first game was revealed to be televised specifically for junko‘s despair army as propaganda Who knows if they kept it going off screen and our pre mind wiped classmates happened to get the gist of it And the tapes are a way to sneak it past the audience that these are actual people and unleash despair once again on our forgetful fiend found family And bringing it back to the doppelgängers on tape Some of these guys seem a bit off in general Angle is weird, the eyes seem a bit off in general, Who would volunteer to murder people and possibly get murdered in various horrific ways

Hi, I have my next theory: Tsumugi lied a LOT. She did lied not only these audition tapes, but also Rantaro's tapes. Pretending to be him in order to make sure he went to the right place in order to get the first kill done. Tsumugi can cosplay them, that's why on chapter 3 monobears offer the resurrection ritual. She was agreed by cosplaying one of the dead players if the ritual came to be completed. My theory is that is not an alternative universe. Is the same universe post danganronpa 3 anime. When Naegi is adult and society is recovered. But some despair still remains. A cosplayer tried to cosplay Enoshima Junko, and get caught with the character, creating a new despair that made them capture 15 students, to start this killing game, rantaro is possible that was a hope's peak academy that knew about Monokuma and the new killing games, so he get caught on purpose just to get inside and fight mastermind, sadly, Tsumugi was able to get this and make sure to kill him first as the biggest threat for her purposes.

I’m over 3 years late to this video but I gotta say, this theory makes a lot of sense. Honestly, I know a lot of people aren’t really fans of Tsumugi being the mastermind due to how predictable it is, but you gotta admit that the lies she tells makes the story much more interesting and compelling which makes the player really think about what went down in certain parts of the story and whatnot. That’s part of the reason why I love V3: it’s very clearly centered around lies (Kokichi and Tsumugi both contribute to this), so you never actually know if what anything that happened was the truth or not.

I die a little inside when people call Shuichi "bland"- like hell no he isn't?? Shuichi has one of the most well written and defined character arcs in the series(and in anything I've played for that matter) Shuichi started off as a pathetic, weak detective who was scared of finding the truth-he couldn't even look people in the damn eyes from the case he solved that he regretted- And from the help of people like Kaito and Kaede, he becomes stronger and able to seek the truth to keep everyone alive. And trial 1 is really a testament to his arc, where it's clear that he KNOWS Kaede is Rantaro's killer, but he's afraid to reveal the truth- until Kaede gives him the courage to do it, and with that, passing her wish onto him, telling him to face the truth for everyone's sake- and he gets more confident from here, and he keeps going despite the cold truths he has to uncover in the process- (and ofc there's the metaphor with him taking off his hat lol) And yeah, for the next few chapters after ch 1, he manages to solve the cases and condemn the killers, and there's not much big development for Shuichi himself besides him growing closer to Kaito and Maki, with the whole training shebang and such- But ch 4 is where things really amp up- the whole murder case was really a test to Shuichi's beliefs he had built up at that point- where in his strive to reach the truth in an attempt to keep everyone alive, Kaito feels betrayed that Shuichi "didn't believe in Gonta", seemingly taking Kokichi's side instead of Kaito's in his strive for the truth- and after this trial, Shuichi is left to question his beliefs and if it's the right thing- trying to tell himself that "Gonta needed to be sacrificed" in order for everyone remaing to live- Ch 5 and 6 honestly could have their own essays, so yeah lol, it's obvious from them alone just how insanely good hat boy's arc is Shuichi is def my favorite protag in the series(follwed by Kaede, Komaru, Hajime, and Makoto in that order), and he's also my favorite character for so, so many reasons I don't feeling like getting into rn- but all I really want is for people to stop saying Shuichi is a bland or blank character, because that's obviously not the case-(seriously I don't understand where people get that idea??? Did we even play the same game???) I love him so much and he's just so amazing I can barely even describe my full thoughts on him- also epic vid btw, you summed up most of my thoughts better than I ever could- most of the time when I'm trying to explain why I like a character, it's mostly just "I love them because they're awesome" and it's kinda hard for me to describe things in detail- but I loved hearing your thoughts on the protags! :D

Ah i remember ch 6 the memory when they happy being choose is come from the last flashback light is showing memories after memories with a bit delayed ( when they investigating the last mystery ) and different with the prologue. V3 character don't have prologue memory what players see but they have the fake memory

Nice favorite character my favorite character is Sayaka Maizono for many reasons 1. Sayaka was actually the first character that got me into Danganronpa 2. I truly like her design (for as standard as it is I think it kinda speaks on who she is as a person and how to an extent doesn’t think much her status) 3. She seems like a very nice person. Also I really love her smile 4. One of many characters I still miss (a lot) 5. She’s best girl (IMO)

This may be off topic, but have yall noticed the weird inconsistencies with Kaede's hair length? Like in some art it looks long while in others it's shoulder length 😅

I originally thought that Teruteru was pansexual because of his flirty nature towards everyone. I still love this pervy litte marshmallow.

Something that I think is worth mentioning as a positive for Teruteru is a detail I don't often see people mention: his vocal performance. Every DR character benefits greatly from their voice actors' performances (that's why the recast in the anime's dub rubbed a lot of us the wrong way), and the Ultimate Chef is no exception. Todd Haberkorn (whom you might recognize from basically EVERY ANIME EVER) does his best to give Teruteru this slick, suave voice that really sells the character as someone doing his damndest to impress everyone and seem like he's got everything under control… and this makes his breakdowns the first trial all the more harrowing to watch. It's comical in some ways ("AVRIL LAVIGNE", anyone?) but on the whole he really sells Teru's horror at his impending demise and his desperation to see his mother one last time, all the while his natural rural drawl breaks through as he's too desperate/anguished to keep up his "trendy big-city playboy" façade.

What if after the auditions, Team Danganronpa tracked down the students they selected and kidnapped them out of nowhere rather than just kindly informing them that they got in and normally transporting them? Sure, that would suggest that they would also remember auditioning during the prologue since they still had all their memories, but this could be explained by either them 1. them still not realizing during the prologue that they’re in this school because of the audition or 2. their memories of just the audition could’ve been wiped before they woke up, since Team Danganronpa always had access to the memory wiping stuff, I think? Or they just altered the students’ memories to make them think they were just randomly kidnapped, since them knowing that they wanted to be in the killing game obviously would’ve messed things up?

This game actually looks really cute but I’m a sucker for cozy games so I guess it all depends on personal tastes

You've got to love how V3 asks the audience to question it in it's entirety. High level writing from the team.

What if DR1&2 are actually fiction as the Danganronpa video game exists in their world and the Danganronpa game show was made in their universe as a copy of the video game, thats why Tsumugi can cosplay as 1 & 2 characters and not V3 characters. The tapes are most likely fake like the flashback light “memories”

When memory altering flashlights are in the mix, pretty much anything the mastermind says is the truth should be taken with a boulder of salt Even Prologue Tsumugi didn’t know what was happening at that point. I think there’s a different mastermind that made her into the one for the Killing Game.

I wish there was a gameplay where you can choose who gets executed: Shuichi or Kaede. By that after learning Kaede “killed” Rantaro as Shuichi you can pick to tell the truth or to lie. If you pick Kaede well plot resumes as normal but if you pick Shuichi then it goes down the “I’d trade my life for yours” fic

Teruteru is like weirdly my favourite character, Hes like one of those characters I hate and love at the same time, I dislike his perventness actions But his design is so cute!! I wanna pick him up and spin him around 🥺😭
