I see Makoto’s willingness to forgive people as the most inspirational shit ever to be honest. It’s something me in that situation would’ve never thought of doing and that’s what makes him so unique compared to the other characters, I mean, most people would’ve been mad as hell if Kyoko would’ve done the same to them, but it’s just the way he only sees the mastermind as the culprit to all of this and not blaming the others in the killing game is one of the main reasons why I like him. What he really wants is for everyone not to fight, thus was the reason why when the first class trial started, he naively thought that no one was the killer because he only sees the good in people. I like Kaede for similar but at the same time different reasons, and the only reason why she is not my fav is because I just bond with Makoto more, and because the Future ark just made me like him even more. My bad for all this typing I just can’t explain how much I love Makoto. But anyways man great list keep up the good work.

I love Kaede. But..she has done some things that made me a little concerning. Especially when she looked up Tsumugi's skirt to get her to talk to her. Or how sometimes Kaede was a tiny tiny TINY bit manipulative- And how she wanted to kill the mastermind. Yet Makoto didn't even want Junko to die. Like seriously?? And she kinda just told everyone to survive, and did not much else- But Kaede is a great character ngl, I do love her a lot U_U 🖖 But maybe just 0.01% Less than I did before. 3. Shuichi saihara. Basically everything you said. Shuichi is very adorable and his development through out the game is just YES. 2. Hajime Hinata. So much more realistic. And when he's at his limit like in the 6th trial. And he jus screamed that this was to much for him. I felt him :( 1. Komaru neagi I won't spoil UDG But the rest of UDG is awesome and Komaru and Toko are so cute together! :D
Slight thing I have to say. She didn’t want the mastermind to die, she just didn’t have any other choice given the circumstances. She said so at the end of her trial, the time limit pressured her and so the only chance she had left was to use Shuichis detective work and make a plan to kill the mastermind. She would have trapped them or something if she could.

It's been a while since I made my protagonist ranked so I guess I'll answer cause it's an easy question 1st and 2nd are whether or not we consider my favourite or which one I think is the best between Shuichi and Hajime. I think Shuichi is the best one because he simply gets the most material to flesh his out with and has the benefit of a different format to make his journey feel a lot more personal, but hajime is mainly my favourite sometimes because I just love Dr2 that much and he manages to get nearly as much as Shuichi does from the far more limited format of the main games. Both of them are also just quite fun characters to watch in action as well, even taken away from their very compelling stories. Shuichi is my favourite while hajime is close second but hajime is more fun. Shuichi also had the best writing protagonist compared to others. Makoto is in third by a long shot compared to the others at the top for the simple reason of I think he's decent, just not as much as the two above him, as his own story kind of fumbles in a few places. I think the ending didn't really do him many favours, either, both in how it kind of derails him a bit (which is fair in some ways so it's not my major point against him) but more importantly it's how he's dragged down by other cast, he is kind of bland but ok Fourth place Komaru I genuinely think both she and Kaede are garbage, but Komaru at least has some personality traits and had some potential that the game squandered hard to make her an infallible martyr instead, and all her presence served to do was drag the rest of the game down after she kept crying all the time. So again that leaves Kaede in last and my opinion hasn't really changed much since I made the original post a long time ago.I have played DV3 since then and I appreciate how it tried to give her something, but I think she is so insanely boring in V3 that it's kind of beyond saving without completely overhauling her. She doesn't feel like he earned anything she ever got, never feels like she was challenged by the story, never actually pries the most out of the supporting cast because shes so annoying and downright mean sometimes. (except for Shuichi whose attachment to her feels entirely arbitrary), and really just isn't fun to watch in action. Her character feels so shallow to me and her death was so forced to make me feel any attachment to her. Her mastermind plan was stupid and overall a trash character. hey, sensitivedeku! i've been enjoying your danganronpa videos a lot and i had an idea for you. i realized throughout your videos that you played the games with english dub but i watched/played the series with japanese dub and i personally think the japanese dub does a better job at showcasing the characters' personalities (one character whose personality i find to be showcased more of in japanese dub is shuichi; there's a huge difference in personality alone when it comes to his english voice versus his japanese voice) and i was wondering what your opinions on this might be and if you think this way too when it comes to certain characters!

I don't get the hype with kaede and people saying she is unique personality I find her boring if not more than makoto. The only interesting thing about her was that she had a real talent unlike makoto and hajime. My favorite proganist is kaede so I'm glad you like her but i wanna talk about my second favorite progantist God I feel like Naegi is really underrated and underappreciated. When you ask someone who their favorite Danganronpa protoganist is most of them would say Hajime Kaede or Shuichi. Hajime was more like a standart real person his reactions were mostly like the reactions of players. Kaede was the first female protoganist (excluding UDG) and she was an outgoing and caring character who is unique unlike the other progantists. Shuicihi was an introvert and more of a Hajime then a Naegi. But Naegi was just something different. The other games felt like shoving hope to my throat. It was just the concept of the games. But in THH that hope was there for me I felt it in the dialouges in the chapter 6 class trial, in the ending and in the every positive thing that happened. But the most important reason was Naegi. He was not like the protoganist that uses hope to win for me. He was hope. He wanted to believe everyone. He wanted to trust everyone. And tried that so hard. He truly had faith in others. He truly had faith in himself. In other games it was just player having relationships with the other characters for me. But in THH I felt that it was not just some text screen. I felt that Naegi was actually talking to them. His relationship with everyone was wonderful. Especially with Kyoko. He was on good terms with Hiro Hina and even Byakuya and Toko. He trusted the people who suspected him. And his trust was worth it. In the end he defeated Junko with HOPE. That is roughly why he is so important to me and always be my second favroite progantist behind kaede Thanks if you read it until here. Don't forget these are just my opinions that are from my view. Ik a lot of perecent of the fandom think maktoto is bland but he isnt and out of all the male generic progantist he seemed the most fleshed out and i connected him more than hajime and million times more than schuichi. I die a little inside when people call Shuichi "bland"- like hell no he isn't?? Shuichi has one of the most well written and defined character arcs in the series(and in anything I've played for that matter) Shuichi started off as a pathetic, weak detective who was scared of finding the truth-he couldn't even look people in the damn eyes from the case he solved that he regretted- And from the help of people like Kaito and Kaede, he becomes stronger and able to seek the truth to keep everyone alive. And trial 1 is really a testament to his arc, where it's clear that he KNOWS Kaede is Rantaro's killer, but he's afraid to reveal the truth- until Kaede gives him the courage to do it, and with that, passing her wish onto him, telling him to face the truth for everyone's sake- and he gets more confident from here, and he keeps going despite the cold truths he has to uncover in the process- (and ofc there's the metaphor with him taking off his hat lol) And yeah, for the next few chapters after ch 1, he manages to solve the cases and condemn the killers, and there's not much big development for Shuichi himself besides him growing closer to Kaito and Maki, with the whole training shebang and such- But ch 4 is where things really amp up- the whole murder case was really a test to Shuichi's beliefs he had built up at that point- where in his strive to reach the truth in an attempt to keep everyone alive, Kaito feels betrayed that Shuichi "didn't believe in Gonta", seemingly taking Kokichi's side instead of Kaito's in his strive for the truth- and after this trial, Shuichi is left to question his beliefs and if it's the right thing- trying to tell himself that "Gonta needed to be sacrificed" in order for everyone remaing to live- Ch 5 and 6 honestly could have their own essays, so yeah lol, it's obvious from them alone just how insanely good hat boy's arc is Shuichi is def my favorite protag in the series(follwed by Kaede, Komaru, Hajime, and Makoto in that order), and he's also my favorite character for so, so many reasons I don't feeling like getting into rn- but all I really want is for people to stop saying Shuichi is a bland or blank character, because that's obviously not the case-(seriously I don't understand where people get that idea??? Did we even play the same game???) I love him so much and he's just so amazing I can barely even describe my full thoughts on him- also epic vid btw, you summed up most of my thoughts better than I ever could- most of the time when I'm trying to explain why I like a character, it's mostly just "I love them because they're awesome" and it's kinda hard for me to describe things in detail- but I loved hearing your thoughts on the protags! :D

Im curious what the person who made this video thinks of my placement. I like both Makoto and Shuichi, strongly dislike Kaede and I'm sorta neutral on Hajime. Komaru is somewhere around Makoto's level. I don't think either type is better or worse by default, and I'm okay with both as long as they're well-written. My progantist ranking kaede1. 2 maktoto 3. Hajime and other two progantists I couldn't give any crap about so they were so forgettenable. Schiuchi dead last I did not like him as a progantist and him obsessing over kaede wish got me annoyed. Him needing his classmates to help his charcater delevopment got annoying as he should be the one to grow confidence and not relay on others which disliked his charcater arc more. I wanna see you reason for preferring shiuchi over hajime and maktoto
thank you for leaving your opinions! of course I love shuichi (and komaru, too!) but I totally respect your perspective :) as for why i like shuichi, i honestly feel the complete opposite of you and actually feel that out of the three male protagonists he definitely displayed the most signs of personal growth, overcoming his crippling anxiety, learning to depend and trust in others like kaede taught him, and carrying the entire weight of the group on his shoulders (along with kaito). there were sooo many moments in v3 where the characters literally just put so much pressure on shuichi’s shoulders since he’s the ultimate detective, without thinking of his mental state and how much he was dealing with. yet he never let them down and kept pushing through every single trial. he’s just a really strong character to me!

And his free time events with the his mates shows he has more than just those traits that you claim he has. Being cynical doesn’t just suddenly make a character better that feels more like preference. And it took Shuichi till the end of the game for his rejecting hope to even mean anything. Shuichi has one of the most well written and defined character arcs in the series(and in anything I've played for that matter) Shuichi started off as a pathetic, weak detective who was scared of finding the truth-he couldn't even look people in the damn eyes from the case he solved that he regretted- And from the help of people like Kaito and Kaede, he becomes stronger and able to seek the truth to keep everyone alive. And trial 1 is really a testament to his arc, where it's clear that he KNOWS Kaede is Rantaro's killer, but he's afraid to reveal the truth- until Kaede gives him the courage to do it, and with that, passing her wish onto him, telling him to face the truth for everyone's sake- and he gets more confident from here, and he keeps going despite the cold truths he has to uncover in the process- (and ofc there's the metaphor with him taking off his hat lol)
And yeah, for the next few chapters after ch 1, he manages to solve the cases and condemn the killers, and there's not much big development for Shuichi himself besides him growing closer to Kaito and Maki, with the whole training shebang and such-
But ch 4 is where things really amp up- the whole murder case was really a test to Shuichi's beliefs he had built up at that point- where in his strive to reach the truth in an attempt to keep everyone alive, Kaito feels betrayed that Shuichi "didn't believe in Gonta", seemingly taking Kokichi's side instead of Kaito's in his strive for the truth- and after this trial, Shuichi is left to question his beliefs and if it's the right thing- trying to tell himself that "Gonta needed to be sacrificed" in order for everyone remaing to live-
Ch 5 and 6 honestly could have their own essays, so yeah lol, it's obvious from them alone just how insanely good hat boy's arc is
Shuichi is def my favorite protag in the series(follwed by Kaede, Komaru, Hajime, and Makoto in that order), and he's also my favorite character for so, so many reasons I don't feeling like getting into rn- but all I really want is for people to stop saying Shuichi is a bland or blank character, because that's obviously not the case-(seriously I don't understand where people get that idea??? Did we even play the same game???) I love him so much and he's just so amazing I can barely even describe my full thoughts on him- also epic vid btw, you summed up most of my thoughts better than I ever could- most of the time when I'm trying to explain why I like a character, it's mostly just "I love them because they're awesome" and it's kinda hard for me to describe things in detail- but I loved hearing your thoughts on the protags! :D

I like both Makoto and Shuichi, strongly dislike Kaede and I'm sorta neutral on Hajime. Komaru is somewhere around Makoto's level. I don't think either type is better or worse by default, and I'm okay with both as long as they're well-written.

My progantist ranking kaede1. 2 maktoto 3. Hajime and other two progantists I couldn't give any crap about so they were so forgettenable. Schiuchi dead last I did not like him as a progantist and him obsessing over kaede wish got me annoyed. Him needing his classmates to help his charcater delevopment got annoying as he should be the one to grow confidence and not relay on others which disliked his charcater arc more. I wanna see you reason for preferring shiuchi over hajime and maktoto
thank you for leaving your opinions! of course I love shuichi (and komaru, too!) but I totally respect your perspective :) as for why i like shuichi, i honestly feel the complete opposite of you and actually feel that out of the three male protagonists he definitely displayed the most signs of personal growth, overcoming his crippling anxiety, learning to depend and trust in others like kaede taught him, and carrying the entire weight of the group on his shoulders (along with kaito). there were sooo many moments in v3 where the characters literally just put so much pressure on shuichi’s shoulders since he’s the ultimate detective, without thinking of his mental state and how much he was dealing with. yet he never let them down and kept pushing through every single trial. he’s just a really strong character to me!

@jawid I mean, a dull and boring character to me is a character who constantly mentions how normal and average they are and literally show NO character development in any and all media they appear in (Makoto). every time makoto appears his motives and personality are the EXACT same, and it falls flat when you have a character who’s literal only motivation in all situations is “hope” even when it makes NO sense for the situation he’s in as I explained in the video ❤️ you say shuichi’s character development was similar to “watching paint dry” but makoto being a static character all throughout the first game was good writing to you? i guess. i also find it quite funny one of your problems with shuichi is him wanting to fulfill kaede’s wish, as if that’s NOT realistic to want to see your deceased friend’s last wishes through? yet makoto moving on from sayaka’s death in LITERALLY one chapter is realistic to you? 🤔
@@SensitiveDeku And I can’t help but disagree. Makoto blended more and had better chemistry with his cast compared to the others.
And his free time events with the his mates shows he has more than just those traits that you claim he has.
Not to mention Makoto’s idealogy and method on approaching things makes it clear he’s isn’t a self insert because no one has mindset or approach.
Being cynical doesn’t just suddenly make a character better that feels more like preference.
And it took Shuichi till the end of the game for his rejecting hope to even mean anything. I other stand liking the concept of them rejecting Hope but that something that still could have been handle better. So I don't buy that realism argument
