How to Cut Papaya Tree too Tall to Reach Fruit
My papaya tree became so tall I was unable to reach the fruit anymore so that means it's time to cut it down and see if it regrows and produces fruit at a more manageable height.

Quick and Easy Chop and Drop Banana After Harvest
มุมมอง 10814 วันที่ผ่านมา
After harvesting your banana fruit it's best to chop down the banana tree because it only produces fruit one time. I do a quick and easy chop and drop to use the banana trunk as a border and chop the leaves as milch for the bananas. This way everything gets recycled and the water and nutrients return to the plant to feed the next banana harvest.
Absolute Easiest Way to Harvest Worm Castings
มุมมอง 652หลายเดือนก่อน
No more dumping worms out on tarps to seperate the worms from the worm castings. Try this instead! Put the finished worm casting layer of the bin on top and tickle them down. Adding potting soil or coconut coir will help dry out the castings and speed up the process.

Restoring Fern Grotto by Removing Invasive Coral Ardisia
มุมมอง 903 หลายเดือนก่อน
I wanted to show you all this milestone in the restoration project I've been working on, restoring the fern grotto that was invaded by coral ardisia. It has taken many years to restore this small area. The Coral ardisia is a prolific fruiter making lots of berries and they plants have thick roots making them hard to pull up. I use my machete to cut the roots and minimize soil disturbance. Now t...

Turning and sifting compost in a Geo-Bin composter
มุมมอง 2425 หลายเดือนก่อน
I do lazy composting with not much turning so here I'm checking on the compost I've had in the Geo-Bin for the last couple months. I harvested the finished compost by sifting it from the larger particles then reassembled the bin to compost some more.

Inoculating Biochar with Worm Compost
มุมมอง 6186 หลายเดือนก่อน
Biochar is a highly porous charcoal substance that can help build soil health. Learn the best way to inoculate biochar with worm castings. I simply mix them together in the same bucket and let it sit for a month. Alternatively, you could add them to your compost pile or mix with finished compost. This will inoculate the biochar with beneficial microbes such as bacteria and fungi and improve soi...
Fruit Tree Pruning - Codominant Stem
มุมมอง 2286 หลายเดือนก่อน
Pruning is very important in young fruit trees to correct any structural problems so the tree can grow in a good shape. Here I show a common problem, codominant stems on a mango fruit trees, and how to fix it. Instead of completely removing the branch prune it back to reduce the dominance. Reducing one of the codominant stems will help the mango tree grow a stronger central leader and branch out.

How to Stump Treat a Brazilian Pepper Tree with Herbicide
Thank you! New gardener here, I have pulled six of them. I will be using the BT solution.
What would be the best and easiest way to get rid of a 10x10 area of bamboo? Previous owners planted it and it is way out of control. I cannot sit and cut and paint each one there is way too much.
Thank you for the video! I learned new things.
How do you water these? Also, how do you keep them so vertical? I planted some 3 months ago!!
potato on the branches!??
so many of the videos suggest that you have to grow shoots from the sweet potato first, twist them off, get the roots started and then plant. But if, as your video shows, I plant the whole potato, will I get several potatoes in the hole at harvest. I placed a sweet potato bottom down in water and got a good root system. If I plant it, will sweet potatoes form at the end of those roots?
GREAT!!!!GREAT!!!GREAT
What you can do when it's 5-6 feet tall . You can cut the tips to prevent growth and just produce fruit at the height you want.
I’d like to propagate with you…. Propagate bamboo that is.
What type of papaya is this ? I haven't seen one with red stems
Smart idea. Thank you
What's your favorite way to cook Seminole Pumpkins?
I slice the pumpkin in half, side to side and save the seeds. Then cut into slices about 3/4 inch thick. On a baking pan, I coat each side with olive oil and then salt and pepper the top. Bake for 15 minutes at 400 degrees F and flip, salt and pepper the top and bake another 15 minutes. Or you could peel the rind and cut in cubes and do a similar method. It's delicious!
Thanks. I've pulled off about a dozen the last few days.
Nice work! Keep an eye out for them. Hand picking is one of the most safe and effective options for pest control.
@@TiaSilvasy Not seen any since and I keep checking!
Hi! Where in Florida are you?
Nice😂❤❤❤❤I do
Considering this to build a fenced in cat sanctuary in back yard. The bamboo would be utilized for fence posts. Thank you. LOVE. PEACE. God Bless
Always great advice!
I also chop and drop Mexican Sunflower and Lemon grass around my Banana plants for extra nutrients.
Those are also beneficial plants to chop and drop. I grow those too:)
Is bacillus thuringiensis effective against all caterpillars ? Does it affect butterflies and moths ?
Yes it works on all caterpillars, the good ones and the bad ones. The caterpillar eats it when you spray the BT on the leaves, so it would not affect adult butterflies and moths since they don't eat leaves. Don't spray your butterfly garden plants with BT.
@@TiaSilvasy Thanks for the reply. You mean don't spray flowering plants with BT ? What do I spray on my flowering plants to keep caterpillars away ?
@@indianb1918 Learn which plants the caterpillars of butterflies eat, these are called larval host plants, don't spray those.
@@TiaSilvasy Thanks for the answer. OK I understand. So if BT is sprayed on flowering plants does it affect adult butterflies ?
@@TiaSilvasy Thanks so I can still use BT on my flowering plants without affecting adult butterflies. I wont spray on host plants though.
Hi Tia, Do you have any divides you are will to give away/sell? I want to try this grass. I'm in San Diego. Thanks.
Hi there! I don't have a plant nursery license at this time but you could try Green Dreams or A Natural Farm here in Florida. I know they ship their plants.
So after 3 years ? what is the best ?
Simple and to the point !
Thanks for the positive feedback! All these little steps are important!
What type ? Red wiggler and tiger worms ?
Nice I want to learn
nice :)
Thanks!
We have a variety that is white and its soup is sour, you have to drain out it first before adding peanut butter and dome wayer to balance the sour. The peanut butter makes a thick soup and is eaten with sweet potatoes where i come from
Beautiful work
Thank you so much 😀
I have a Brazilian pepper that was growing closely around another tree I want to save. Is it possible to treat the cut trunk of the pepper tree without damaging the existing tree? I’m afraid the treatment will kill the tree I’m trying to save. TIA.
Bambusa Oldhamii - Ol-dha-me-i is the pronunciation.
How can I kill bamboo root? 🙁
Kỹ thuật ủ phân bón cây của bạn rất tốt 👍.
Thanks! I'm glad you liked my composting technique. I've been refining the process over many years.
Do you really have to separate all the nodes, can you not leave it all in?
I could just leave it in the ground and let it grow, but I do not want the bamboo to be in that location and so that’s why I cut it between each of the nodes and put them in pots to move them or give them away to friends.
About how often do you harvest the compost?
I have three worm bin layers, and so I rotate them and harvest about once a month.
What do they taste like ?
The plants love the worm castings for fertilizer and to build your soil!
Such lovely wildflowers, but what makes the mound septic, or a leach field... or, did you just mean As [sterile and washed-out] As Old Harry? Hope it goes well for you.
I am on well and septic so the toilet water flows into the septic tank and then drains out to the leach field. This method of growing wildflowers can be used on lawns too.
@@TiaSilvasy Okay, thanks, I just had no idea what you'd meant.
im so glad my friend brought me 10 @ least 20-25 feet tall. backyard flower garden architechture

This stuff stinks to high heaven but it works great. You really should wear gloves on those beautiful hands. My 2cents! 👨🌾
Hi, I know this isn't related to your video but I live in a Florida. And I'm having pest issues. My sweet potato keeps being eaten and i'm wondering what to put on play aside from need oil
This sounds like a question for your local extension agent. You can find your office here and perhaps send them photos of the pest so they can identify it and recommend proper treatment. sfyl.ifas.ufl.edu/find-your-local-office/

The potatoe vine is a clas A menace. However, the ceasar weed although invasive is very usefull and medicinal. Worth looking into.

I'm in 2024 but I saw some of the hibiscus has little fruits (it's like pumpkin but small and green) so I do not know if it's another plant. Also the leaves are poisonous from my country.
Thanks a ton!
You're welcome!
Thank you! Such a simple approach.
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for sharing the information. Great job
Propagation is fun!
How long do they take to fruit?
18 months or longer depending on the conditions, so plant lots so you get a couple each year.
They aren't edible, but when I used to live in Singapore, the Asian ladies in my neighbourhood used to collect the leaves of the Hibiscus syriacus and use them to produce a liquid soak for their hair. Apparently, it gives vitamins to the hair and encourages dark, healthy growth (apparently covering greys! At least that's what I was told.) There was a big wild thicket of Hibiscus syriacus growing near the community garden I was a member of.
