  • Grow your own mulch! Plants such as bunching grasses, bananas, gingers and ferns produce a lot of biomass that can be chopped and dropped on your property. I have wood oats, fakahatchee, lemongrass, vetiver grass for bunching grasses. #gardening

I keep my lemongrass mulch for plants that are being nibbled on; the strong smell deterred whatever was eating my strawberry plants last season. After mulching, the plants recovered enough to give a late, late season taste of berries from the garden, and now they are popping runners everywhere; I won't be buying bare roots this fall. So lemongrass is 4 for 1: beautiful, tasty (Thai curries, tea), biomass producer, and a pest repellent, plus absolutely carefree!
Good to know turmeric can also be chopped and dropped; such huge leaves for such tiny rhizomes! I underestimated the planting area....ooops.

Mmm lemongrass tea, yes it's just a great all around plant for the garden, so many uses! My shampoo ginger is growing a little too big for my area too, like your turmeric. I've been pulling some up and cutting off leaves, I wonder how much you can cut and pull from turmeric and still get good root production.
