Things Break

Throughout life, things break. I enjoy the challenge of fixing them.
Porsche 944 Fuel Gauge Repair plus instrument cluster LEDs
In this video I repair the fuel gauge circuit on a 1987 Porsche 944. The sending unit should read 2.8 ohms for a full tank. There are multiple connections throughout the circuit that each add a little bit of resistance if they are not clean and tight - just adding a few ohms will bring the gauge down noticeably. I step through the connections I cleaned that made the gauge read a lot more accurately.
While I had the cluster out, I also changed some of my indicator bulbs to LED to increase their brightness. I got mine from:
www.superbrightleds.com/b8-led-bulb-smd-instrument-panel-led+color-Red+base-B85D
You need the B8.5D LEDs and select the desired color to match the indicator.
On the left side you need 3 red for Brake Pad, Seatbelt, and Parking Brake, plus 2 green for Parking Lights. In the middle is 1 red for the main warning light and 1 green for the turn signals, and on the right you need 2 red for the brake fluid and 1 blue for the high beams. I did not change the warning lights for oil pressure, battery, fuel, or temperature, as you have to take the cluster further apart, same with the CASIS/shift indicator that takes an amber LED. There are several unused indicators that may or may not have bulbs in them.
So in total for the LEDs accessible on the back, it’s 6 red, 3 green, and 1 blue, at least for my ’87. You do need to pay attention to polarity on LEDs, so you really have to try them before fully installing the cluster - if they don’t work, turn them 180 degrees.

Porsche 944 Rear Brake Job with Caliper Rebuild
มุมมอง 2.8K10 หลายเดือนก่อน
This is an overview of rebuilding the rear brake calipers with new seal kits and replacing the pads and rotors. I used Zimmerman rotors and Dynamic Friction 3000 ceramic pads, hoping these will produce less dust than what was on the car.
Sump Pump / Sink Pump Repair - Planned obsolescence!
มุมมอง 28511 หลายเดือนก่อน
I diagnose why a 1/3 HP Flotec Pump failed. It is used as a sink pump and normally only runs for a few seconds to empty the pump chamber. It started running continuously so I took it apart and found a bad design which could have been prevented and was able to fix it for less than a few dollars worth of screws.

Make Your Water Heater Last!
มุมมอง 3.1Kปีที่แล้ว
The cost of water heaters has nearly doubled over the past 5 years. If you want to make yours last, it's a good idea to regularly change the anode rod which protects the tank from corrosion. The rod is consumable but its life depends on your water and usage. In my case, I find that changing them every 5 to 6 years is adequate. As long as the protective metal (magnesium or aluminum) is still pre...
Replacing a Battery Isolator
มุมมอง 179ปีที่แล้ว
Here I replace a battery isolator on a friend's boat and trace out some of the wiring. This unit connects 2 alternators and 3 batteries allowing all batteries to get charged from either or both alternators but won't allow a dead battery to pull charge from any other battery. We had to remove the water heater to get to all of the mounting screws, but the water heater was bad and had to come out ...
Toyota P1155 and P1130 codes - FIXED!
มุมมอง 7Kปีที่แล้ว
2001 Toyota Avalon with 1MZ engine. Got a check engine light and found codes P1155 A/F Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction and P1130 A/F Sensor Circuit Range. The P1155 tells you the heater in the sensor has failed while the P1130 means the measurement is out of range, because the sensor has failed. The fix was replacing the Bank 2 (front) Air Fuel Sensor, some call it an oxygen sensor. This used...
EGO Line Trimmer with Power Load - Failure and repair
มุมมอง 21Kปีที่แล้ว
This is an EGO ST1520S with the power load feature. This is prone to failure from debris being caught in the spool, but this one actually suffered a part failure from a poor design. This shows how I fixed it for free and we'll have to see how long it lasts. The failed piece is part of the motor subassembly and unfortunately not available separately. EGO really needs to make this part available ...
Sienna Air Filter Change

Here I change the cabin and engine air filters on a 2018 Toyota Sienna. This is a 3rd generation model (2011-2020) and should be the same on all 3rd gen models. It is very easy to do, no tools required, and only takes about 5 minutes. Replacing the JBL subwoofer in a 2001 Toyota Avalon
มุมมอง 12Kปีที่แล้ว
This is a common problem in these models. As the foam rubber surround on the speaker ages, it falls apart and the speaker sounds like it has a rattle in it. The surround can be replaced, but I decided to replace the speaker with a reasonably priced 8" sub from Kicker: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08NFHJZNP/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
2001 Toyota Avalon Suspension - Fixing the Clunk!
มุมมอง 25Kปีที่แล้ว
This 2001 Toyota Avalon is a very quiet car, so you hear everything! I had a clunking sound that was heard on back roads and I show you how I fixed it. I previously jacked up each wheel and shook them but nothing seemed loose. I also thought the spare tire and/or jack could be making the sound because those were a little loose, but tightening them did not help. I then learned that sway bar bush...
Porsche 944 gets 6.5" round rear speakers!
มุมมอง 4.9Kปีที่แล้ว
I swapped out the small 4x6" rear speakers with 6.5" round for better sound. I used the JBL CLUB622. I then moved the 4x6s I put in last year (JBL GX-6428) into the doors. The doors are limited to about 1-7/8" of depth due to the window track so not all 4x6s will fit, but the rears have plenty of depth. The sound is definitely better with the larger speakers as you can get more bass, but if you...

Toyota Bluetooth Mic Not Working? Try This!
มุมมอง 38Kปีที่แล้ว
If you have a 2018-2019-2020 Toyota Sienna, Camry, or most late model Toyotas and the Bluetooth microphone stopped working, it is common for a module to lock up that requires a simple reset. Try this before taking it in for service. #shorts

Installing LED Daytime Running Lights on a 2001 Toyota Avalon

Installing LED Daytime Running Lights on a 2001 Toyota Avalon
Okay, I clicked on this video by mistake, having misread "2001," as "2011," the year Avalon I own. Looking for videos on how to get to my rear deck for a third brake light. Still, I watched this out of curiosity and wow. This same process in the generation of Avalons that followed was made abysmal. Not that it's particularly hard, but that it now involves ripping out lots of panels, introducing the possibility of breaking clips, things not going back on the way they came off, the introduction of rattles that weren't there before, among other things. What the fuck was Toyota thinking? Sorry, just had to vent.
Thanks for this video. Just in time found out my right rear caliper was seized a day ago.
Get white light bulbs and it won’t be yellow
Is there any other way this does not on our 15 toyota highlander
That fix doesn't work
Just cleaned mine. Was definitely an issue. Thanks
I have the same exact problem with my car (VW ID4 2021) , would disconnecting the car battery for 30 minutes solve the problem?
I have the same problem on my ego
I would never use a impact on them bolts holding the swaybar bushing bracket. Especially on a older car. The bolts are known to break due to rust and what not. You got very lucky the bolts didn't break, if it did, you'd be hearing way more clunkin and trips to the hardware store lol
When you removed the football shaped connections at back of cluster, how did you clean them?
The real problem is when the motor doesn't go. Does anyone know if that means a bad motor? That would cost about $70. You can buy a new trimmer for about $140
Awesome, 👍
Let me save others 10 minutes. Find another video for a repair
Wait, mine doesn’t even have that plastic piece! WTH?
The worst brake video ever
Least helpful comment ever
You do realize that you are putting your stands exactly where they shouldn't be. These points cannot support the weight of the car.
Probably fine if you’ve got good panels, but good catch scared me too
@@markbogle4784 Look, I'm not trying to be funky here but these are not meant to be used to jack up the car. These four points at the corner of each wheel well were designed to carry the shell of the car (no interior or drivetrain) during assembly. They will collapse under the weight of the car once lifted. The manual actually shows you exactly where to jack up the car. Just sayin'
That's what wrong with mine the key is worn down and now I have to hold the very bottom to get it to respool
Same,
Thank you very much for sharing. I had the same problem with my 2019 Sienna. When my phone was connected, I couldn't make the other party hear me when I was on a call because the car's microphone didn't work. This problem was solved by disconnecting the car's battery.
Excellent video. Thank you.
its a kicker “8?

realy appreciate the video! I wish you put links for all the stuff you bought.
Thanks for the simple and easy steps.🦣
Worked on 2018 sienna. Hopefully won't have to do it too often. Why isn't there a reboot button instead?
Just worked on my wife’s 2019 Sienna - thanks!
Having exactly the same problem! After cleaning every part and putting it back together, I was able to load again and I thought problem solved. Not so fast ! After the second load of line the problem returned and I had to go through the same procedure again. My next step will be, is to replace the original EGO head with an Echo speedfeed 400 universal head. It will not be fully automatic, but it will save a lot of time not having to disassemble the original EGO head. Other than this issue, it is a fine machine.
The video with it running was key.
I had the same issue. I used that 928 collar/sleeve and worked like a charm. I actually used a 2nd gasket to get a better seal. I also have a ‘87 turbo and I didn’t modify the sleeve to make it fit. I used two different JB Weld epoxies and they both failed before I found this 928 sleeve. I conclude that JB Weld is for temporary fixes, not permanent. I’ve had mine on for about 2 years now.
That's great that it worked for you!
I have to press and pull on my driver side l. I already tried grease and nothing, what could it be ?? I also notice that the main door hinge is not attached and there broken screws, it's only been held by the upper and lower hinges ..
Something must be wrong with the mechanism. I could not figure out why my old one would jam up, but the used replacement has been working fine.
Ego products been good except trimmer
Is there no longer a plastic piece? Is it only the aluminum one that is sold online?
Not sure what you mean. The repair piece is aluminum and it replaces the aluminum female threaded boss that was originally molded into the tank. The strainer is identical to the original and has an aluminum fitting with a plastic strainer.
I have a rogue it’s not working
So, my microphone wasn't working, my front passenger side speaker stopped working, and the SOS system stopped working. I used this reset method to try to fix the microphone, and it fixed all three issues.
Check engine light came back? P1130 is on the other side of the engine, bank 1 sensor 1, right below next to the bottom fire wall. California has its own O/F mixture sensor requirements and more expensive. DENSO should come with a little anti-seize compound, no?
Most Denso parts that have threads include a small amount of copper anti-sieze - enuf to do 3 or 4 of these
This is an awesome video. I will be doing this to our 944
Thanks!!
Does this have to be installed at the top of the panel or can it be installed anywhere in the panel?
Anywhere will help, closest to the main or feed is best but I'm not sure how much better it really is. I don't have data to say one way or another.
It worked. Thank you so much🫶
I was trimming for about 2 minutes before mine had a power failure. Extremely disappointed and irritated with this product!!
That is 1 of reason why I am hesitating buying a power head. Everything you buy today made not to last long with plastic parts. Is it worth aggravation? How old it the head ?
what is the name of this things that lift the car up ?
Think those are Rhino Ramps. They sell them at Oreillys, Autozone and Walmart I think.
I bought the same trimmer recently and the bump-head lasted only a few hours of use before the automatic line feed mechanism failed. I fixed it using the technique shown in this video, but Ego have made a poor quality product if it fails after such a short period of normal use. At least the manufacturer warranty is five years, but I could do without the hassle of returning the equipment. Such a shame as I quite like most other things about the product.
You guys should buy an impact driver for the rotor screws. Absolutely magical tool if you know how to apply it.
Mine constantly fails.
Thank u so much worked on my 2018 Toyota Sienna, now microphone is working again
Hey dude, those JBL work with 3OHMS impedance, wich stereo system are you using? As faar as i know, almost all Stereo radios, work with 4OHMS... i just made this mistake... having speakers working with less resistence than the stereo, will overhead the stereo causing to burn... untill that happend, either the stereo doesnt work, or work but the sound quality will be much under the standart from the speakers.
Agreed about making that part available w/o buying an entire new motor - that is gouging and wasteful. My weed eater has the same problem, and this is the first time I have seen the issue even addressed - you have done a great job figuring this out. But meanwhile I actually bought a new weed eater and want to put a blade on this head and just use it for that. Unfortunately, the configuration after removing the power head does not match what I see online. The others have a deep cup that when removed reveals a smooth metal plate - this weed eater has a shallow cup and (not smooth) plastic under it. - I'll use your ingenuity for inspiration! Thanks for making this video - I did gain information that is useful for what I'm trying to do, and I appreciate it!
I never got surges from thunder or anything yet but at least my pcs that are plugged into a surge protector is protected
This is exactly why they make this shit another country so you can’t go down the street and kick their ass. This is the exact same thing wrong with mine and they won’t do nothing about it. They actually told me they would fix it but they would cancel all the warranties on all the other tools I own. wTF
Mine is broke after 6 months of commercial use
MY PROBLEM IS DIFFERENT. WHEN I PRESS ON THE BUTTON, NOTHING HAPPENS, any advise?
Same problem Push button nothing Took & cleaned Thinking maybe bad switch Any other thoughts
