Great job ! When a company won't help a homeowner with the repair of a tool that cost as much as these things do , then their a pretty worthless company.
I stumbled across your video when researching a different problem with my ST1500E. The conclusion that I've come to, is this Ego stuff is not made to last and I regret investing in their system. My trimmer has stopped working and I know someone who had a problem with a mower and the pole hedge trimmer. Yeah their warranty is good but trimmers use to last 20 years and were easy to fix. These are a different kettle of fish. The convenience of battery powered tools is great when they work but when they don't, they seem hard to fix. Anyway, rant over. Thanks for making the video
@@momo_the_great6969 Yeah it was pretty disappointing how long it lasted. I ended up buying a new brushless dc controller to try and fix mine, that was not the problem. So bought a new DC motor and that sorted it. Not sure how long it will last, but changing out the bits was pretty fiddly. Cleaner than internal combustion but I'd rather do piston and rings any day!
Agreed about making that part available w/o buying an entire new motor - that is gouging and wasteful. My weed eater has the same problem, and this is the first time I have seen the issue even addressed - you have done a great job figuring this out. But meanwhile I actually bought a new weed eater and want to put a blade on this head and just use it for that. Unfortunately, the configuration after removing the power head does not match what I see online. The others have a deep cup that when removed reveals a smooth metal plate - this weed eater has a shallow cup and (not smooth) plastic under it. - I'll use your ingenuity for inspiration! Thanks for making this video - I did gain information that is useful for what I'm trying to do, and I appreciate it!
Thanks for posting this. I actually purchased a ST1620T that came in dead on arrival. Have sent it back to Amazon, but you got me curious about parts availability. Looks like on the newer model almost no "service" parts are available for the core unit. Think I'll stick with one that doesn't load itself.
Having exactly the same problem! After cleaning every part and putting it back together, I was able to load again and I thought problem solved. Not so fast ! After the second load of line the problem returned and I had to go through the same procedure again. My next step will be, is to replace the original EGO head with an Echo speedfeed 400 universal head. It will not be fully automatic, but it will save a lot of time not having to disassemble the original EGO head. Other than this issue, it is a fine machine.
I bought the same trimmer recently and the bump-head lasted only a few hours of use before the automatic line feed mechanism failed. I fixed it using the technique shown in this video, but Ego have made a poor quality product if it fails after such a short period of normal use. At least the manufacturer warranty is five years, but I could do without the hassle of returning the equipment. Such a shame as I quite like most other things about the product.
Ego SUCKS. Tried calling customer service today was on hold for almost an hour. No one ever answered. So i am now waiting for a call back. I bet i never get that call back. Also, the newer models don't have a keyway and still have the same problems.
Yes, very poor design by Ego and very petty of them to not offer as a replacement part. I feel like the company is getting worse. How's your repair holding up?
I had to call EGO customer service. They had to put me on a long hold. There were no repair places close to my house. Luckily, there is a 5 year warranty, and mine was 4 years and 1 month old, so they sent me a replacement. It took about 3 weeks to get. I was going to try and change the old one to a brush cutter, but I was told it wouldn't work on this model.
That is 1 of reason why I am hesitating buying a power head. Everything you buy today made not to last long with plastic parts. Is it worth aggravation? How old it the head ?
This seems to be our issue. It won’t even click over to start and we tried various batteries that work with the blower. So not a dead battery. I don’t know where to begin.
The real problem is when the motor doesn't go. Does anyone know if that means a bad motor? That would cost about $70. You can buy a new trimmer for about $140
@mozzman9030 I've been using the Ego trimmer now for almost 3 years, not only cutting grass but also blackberry, so I truly don't understand your problems. ✨️🤔✨️

Yep, its cheap Chinese junk. Its ok for home use but its really garbage to be honest

EXcellent presentation. Thank you for a very informational video.

So the issue with some is the head wears down because it is plastic and it's not the key itself

My motor just locked up on mine and I found out they have a 5 year residental use warranty.
MY PROBLEM IS DIFFERENT. WHEN I PRESS ON THE BUTTON, NOTHING HAPPENS, any advise?
Same problem
Push button nothing
Took & cleaned
Thinking maybe bad switch
Any other thoughts
Same issue here, bought a new switch has the same issue

It actually just failed again, so unfortunately a new motor had to be ordered just to get that part.
@@ThingsBreak That's terrible - Ego should be ashamed, but I know they're not!
My problem is that the powerload button doesn't engage. Has anyone else had this problem and if so what did you do to fix
Try putting on echo speed feed. It comes with adapters.
???@@PDX..5071
I got same problem that you have ... and still locking for how to fix it .

@PDX..5071 will the echo speed feed work on this EGO model. I looked up on Amazon, and no EGO models are listed as compatible.
That's what wrong with mine the key is worn down and now I have to hold the very bottom to get it to respool
Same,
That is 1 of reason why I am hesitating buying a power head. Everything you buy today made not to last long with plastic parts. Is it worth aggravation? How old it the head ?
What do you do if the motor doesn't click over at all
You'd have to go through the wiring from the battery through the switch to the motor.
This seems to be our issue. It won’t even click over to start and we tried various batteries that work with the blower. So not a dead battery. I don’t know where to begin.
How long did this fix last?
I think it lasted a season but then needed replacement
thanks gonna try this
Wait, mine doesn’t even have that plastic piece! WTH?
Good video. appreciate it
I was trimming for about 2 minutes before mine had a power failure. Extremely disappointed and irritated with this product!!

Mine constantly fails.
It probably got damaged from bump feeding. Thats why i got the one with line IQ
Did you keep the ST1520 and modify the power head to the new Line IQ, or you bought the new model?
@@kenkrupnik9136 I bought the new model
I have the same problem on my ego
It took me less than 5 minutes to tear down and repair my ego power head, and I'm paralyzed on my left. Crappie design?
Yes ,it is. There is constantly something going wrong with these things.
@beatlemania54 I've had my ego trimmer for about a year now with very few problems . It's my experience that most complications are operator caused.
Junk company with junk products. Only reason they sell is because of their marketing and everyone wants to go "electric and save the world"
@@Townie001 Go away with that crap. Its a garbage design.

Mine is broke after 6 months of commercial use
Ego products been good except trimmer
