Fly Fishing Migrating Tarpon Off The Beach
Seeing good numbers of tarpon moving north up the beach during their annual summer migration. Great time to dush off the 10wt since my bigger rods don't get much use. Get out in front of the school with a yak minnow and hang on.

Usually called the green zima but looks great in other colors such as a natural tan, or purple/black. Fly has alot of movement from the craft fur and gives a very shrimpy vibe. มุมมอง 2.4Kปีที่แล้ว
Trying out a pattern i saw on Instagram that looked pretty cool. The albie whore is minnow pattern that should be fantastic on beach and docklight snook. This is my version as the original calls for the use of hot glue which i traded out for UV resin and a fish mask.
Fly fishing grass carp and peacocks in south Florida

Fly fishing the berry trees in south Florida for carp along with some peacock bass action on the site. The carp will get under the trees when the berries are dropping and feed on the surface similar to trout during a hatch.
Dry Fly Tilapia Fishing South Florida Canals
มุมมอง 2.6Kปีที่แล้ว
During the spring certain trees will drop red berries and if that tree over hangs the water it becomes a great place to find tilapia, carp and other invasive species. This give a unique opportunity to catch these species on dry flies.

Nice job 👍👍👏 I don't have a use inN.J. for them but global warming and all could be soon hahaha 🤣
You know you've got something good when that drag sounds off like that! New sub from my channel to yours
Actually that WAS 4 wraps..You'd done 5 and took one back off..beautiful fly
Counting was never my strong suit
Really well done!
Thank you
I like how you revived and realised the fish but why didnt you get the fly out , but it was a great catch and release by your self
I tired to get the fly but it was in a thought to get to spot and being by myself I’d rather lose the fly so the fish can recover faster. The fly will rust out quickly and that fish will be good to go.
So epic 🔥 any tips on targeting them from the beach this mullet run? Can’t seem to find any tackle tips online
Mullet run is tough for fly guys. It’s more a game of luck when throwing into those massive schools. Not my favorite time of the year to fish tarpon.
La perfectionner.
What language are you speaking? Sounds like muffled Yank😢
1st. class build !!! Thanks, Will try to replicate these in 2's. 4's, & 1/0's. 😁
#2 is the perfect size in my opinion
@@cwflies Thanks....
I'm in SW FL, Norm Zeigler territory, and I'm a new fly tier. Your fly is excellent. Thank you for the instruction!
Thank you.
What weight rod and reel? Good work man!
This is a 10wt crowder with a nautilus ccf silver king. Probably should have had the 12wt with me but I didn’t want to change out the line
Great video, you are on the east coast? Just thinking that from the sun rise and land position. What fly did you use ? Thanks.
Yes east coast. Used a yak minnow. You can find them on my site CW-flies.com
@@cwflies thank you, saw the fly , l
Awesome Cory well done
Thank you
Why would you tie it in upside down ? That would make it try to flip over and possible fowl.
Hi there! I come from South Africa and also enjoy carp on a fly (much to peoples disgust lol) living in fort Lauderdale and I’ve hit that exact spot a few times, very nice, but the numbers I’ve been getting is a little skinny. When is the season that the trees fruit and drop? Haha I wish I could post a photo, but let’s just say carp on fly in Florida is great👌🏻
Berries usually start to drop in March and end in early May.
hello. where is this located at?
This is down around Ft. Lauderdale
I don’t believe it cause you didn’t show the fly.😂
MFC makes rabbit brushes.
Would you think this in dirty, murky water in canals and brackish areas for juvie tarpon?
Yes it should work if it’s a canal they are feeding on shrimp in. Hard for me to throw anything other than topwaters to juvi tarpon.
@@cwflies so you recommend popper flies for the juvies?
Check out my gurgler or popping shrimp. Those are my go to flies for juvi tarpon.
I have a dubbing brush maker. Does the tarantula brush use wire or mono for the core
It is a very thin wire for the core. You can easily make your own using fish hair and daddy long legs.
Awesome, clean tie.
Thank you
badass!!
Thank you
Looks like the peanut butter?
Yes some style as a peanut butter but all natural hair so it will have more movement, durability, and you won’t need to comb it out.
Nice
thanks......
Looks nice 👍 there's a fish looking to eat it
Thank you
⁴mm is very small eyes😮
Very clear and nicely done.
Thank you
Are those size large eyes?
I use the large when tying these in #2 which is what is in the video but if I go down to #4 or #6 I’ll move to mediums
i caught Tarpon and Snook with this in Belize.
Nice. Wish I was back in Belize. Should a good fishery
Show ...
would this work for redfish in Tampa Bay?
Sure would. Adjust the weight as needed for depth and add a weedguard if fishing over grass and you’ll be good to go
Beautiful fly, thanks. Can't find the subscribe button.
Thank you. Subscribe button should be right below the video on the right hand side.
Personally I don't like brush material.
Always looking for feedback. What don’t you like about the brush? What would you replace it with?
Love catching Tilapia on the fly. Would be helpful if you talked about what weight rod and reel you are using as well as which flies work. That’s the info people want to know.
5wt rod and reel but any size will do up to 9wt. The fly here is a special berry fly I make but if you don’t have them feeding under berry trees a black or white Woolley bigger in their beds while spawning or a green weenie anytime will get a bite
Wat was it red or snook??
Snook or jack. Not many redfish back in that area.
I'm liking it better than hot glue I'll be making some up thanks . Some with the skulls 🤯
Sweet that's nice fresh or salty dogin good fly I'm a fan
Good I'm going to do that very nice fly I'm liking them claws thanks
I know you posted this 1+ year ago so maybe too late for questions but, wondering why a lot of these tarpon flies are tied so far back on the hook and leave so much front shank exposed?
Classic tarpon flies are normally tied with exposed shank so the fly could be tied with a snell knot. With smaller diameter leaders now most people no longer snell the hook and go with other knots like a loop knot for movement.
@@cwflies Thank you! I wondered why some leave the hook bare, some wrap them.
Just my take…I thread wrap that bare area these days with a bright color thread because it helps me maintain a visual on the fly.
And, “Presto! You have a flexo”!
If only it went that quickly in real time
@@cwflies yup… but anything that’s worth the effort is also worth the time to put it there.
Beautiful pattern. I gotta try you method. Using the hot glue didn't work for me the way I wanted
Some people can make it work but I found it to be too messy for me. Think fish masks save time, and are durable.
Trout set!
Great teaching video. I’m tired of watching videos that are speeded up……they don’t teach…..they entertain instead.
Yeah I like it done well good camera it was worth the price of admission negative people don't help newbies through it's not worthwhile and drop out
Sweet looking little minnow. Thanks
Thanks for watching!
Great to see fellow Floridian chasing carp on the fly! I’m in Central FL and fish for them in my back yard. Could you share what hook and materials you use for the the fly?
The hook is a gamakatsu C14 glow bug hook in #2 for strength, wide gap, and darker color. Materials is a pompano float I glue to the hook the color red and coat with gorilla glue. It normally just works under the berry trees but evenly once in a while a free swimmer in the open will come take a look at it.
Very cool man! Thanks.
I’ve been targeting them when I can in the Fort Lauderdale area, definitely my favorite species, though mirror carp fight a bit better I think😅 What area are you in?
@@darrenrodgers6425 I'm in Stuart but i fish in cooper city area. Mirror carp for sure fight better. Grass carp are very strong but can just feel like reeling in weight at times. Gotta love that topwater eat from them. Always a fun fish to target before searching for peacocks.
Do you use the Stonfo`s dubbing brush device to make your own brushes ?
I do not. I have a dubbing brush table I got online but I forgot the name of the site. I’m not great at making my own brushes but if you are they can really save some money with recent price increases
@@cwflies Thanks a lot.
Just for future reference would love to see the whole fish in one frame otherwise the video just looks like poor handling of the camera
Ya it was all in frame but noticed that TH-cam cuts the frame down for shorts
@@cwflies ahh gotcha damn sorry about that
Such an underrated fish on fly. They're a blast when you can sight cast them off their beds.
Agreed. They can’t resist a black wooly bugger in their beds
@@cwflies I make a modified berry fly for the beds, really just use creeper chenille and medium Bead chain eyes on a size 4 hook. The legs from the chenille give such good micro movement the tilapia can't stand it
On the berry fly?!? Nice
Yes. Tilapia, carp, and Oscar will all sit under the trees in the spring as the berries fall and get fat and happy. Very underrated fishery. Most only want the peacocks
Will they take a nymph or a damsel fly?
