you should do a video of HOF autographs that are dated in their early playing days - if you can confirm the date of the signing .. are those worth more then when they are signing when they are retired

This is one od my favorite topics. Topps & Panini dont care about thr future value of the product after its sold to you. They just want you to buy as many packs as you can or cant afford, if people are spending money on valuble cards from 20 years ago, they wont be spending is on 2052 Topps Holiday Cosmic Chrome Sapphire Update, or however far they take it by then..These cards only carry a price tag because they are the current names being pushed as lure to buy the product...i had the misfortune of being a Reds fan, so we had a chase rookie, and i just bought a Topps Chrome Purple Refractor Auto...then all the other chrome sets came out. I did some estimate.math...across the Topps Chrome formats Elly De La Cruz has about 3,100 autographs, NOT counting the 2024 Topps Chrome Base Auto...id say those are at least 500-750...but since i didnt know i didnt add them, 3100..just from Topps Chrome, Update, Sapphire, Gilded...not to mention, Tribute, Chrome Black, Cosmic, Tier 1, A&G, Stad Club, Museum, Luminaries, Big League, Heritage...hes signed over 10k cards, ...Even if theres a premium on Topps Chrome, there is NO way even if Elly ends up being Rickey Henderson/Griffey Jr/ Baez fusion, that chrome card i paid $400 will maintain thay value with all that out there...$50 MAX, even WITH an HOF resume...im sorry i took so long to get there, but in all actuallity, the only way our cards can be valuble, is if, 1. Everyone stops buying it. Then theyll adjust printing to appease market, People actually hold onto thier cards, instead of everything flip flip flip......

You know what is dumber than relic cards? Relic cards that don't match the player whose on the card. Fine print stating it or not. Be like having a juan soto card with a jeff mcneil auto on it😂

I love cards!! I am in that boat. I am not in the slab boat, because I feel that grading is a scam. Yes, I own some graded cards because it is a “necessary evil” in this “hobby” (not industry, as some people like to call it). It is a hobby---not industry. I am not saying grading is evil, I am saying that it is necessary, but greed makes it evil. I buy cards that I enjoy. Could be numbered, could be patch cards, could be autos. People are ripping up cards only to find out they aren’t what the company says they are. Should we be surprised? No. We’ve always known companies have been doing this, but we caught them. Will this continue? Yes. Can we do anything about it to make the company stop doing it? No. People say we should stop buying the product. Breakers will still buy the products and gamblers will continue to buy spots with breakers. Nothing changes. If someone doesn’t want a Dick’s jersey or a Walmart jersey card, then don’t buy it. I will buy it and be happy with it. Because I like cards. I won’t buy breaks and I won’t buy wax. Why? Because I’m not a gambler. Know where you fit into this “hobby” and just enjoy the ride. There’s room for all of us and complaining about the wrong name on a jersey card is a nothing burger. They’ve been doing this since the beginning of time. Complain about something you can change. like wax on/wax off on cards.

Yeah they def need to make sure if the relic matches the player specially if it’s in these big price products, I mean if ur buying a basic product/ retail type stuff ok but man with boxes going for thousands of dollars for a box/pack of just a few cards that’s insane, say u pull a relic 1 of 1 mahomes or Lamar and then that relic comes out to be from a random player that card plummets in value

I got very lucky to buy a pack gotten a jersey card signed from a player who I care jack about, hell sports cards are not my thing but after getting that card and seeing it go too $230CAD I was okay this interesting and since then when see a set no one at all buys I buy a few packs here and there to see if I get those jersey cards, etc.

I will buy rookie cards with patches that are not associated as long as they are numberd and cheaper than the non patch numberd cards from. The set

We’re living in a time where folks think they’re actually investing in cards of brand new players. A few months ago we had folks spending $8k on a single box of Wemby cards. Not a Kobe Rookie and not a Jordan 2nd year. No Mays, Aaron, Mantle etc but Wemby. This is not investing. It’s speculation.

I try to only buy the early Upper deck memorabilia card's because they specifically say worn by the player by name in a actual game.

It is weird how many patches and parallels and autos there are now. I remember in the 90s when pulling a parallel or a refractor was extremely rare. Let alone a patch or auto.

Think about this, at some point in time, there was a company who said we're going to grade cards. They made themselves professionals in this field and said we are experts. ANYBODY can grade a card. It's amazing PSA has such a stronghold on grading.

I only buy the player I want and the card I want. No buying packs for me. I never get chase cards and I feel burdened trying to unload tons of crap cards no one wants otherwise.

Because nowadays people are “collecting” based on card value/resell value, more than the ideals from back in the day when collecting was characterized by the player you loved firstly no matter what the card they featured on and if you could pick up a card with that players game used memorabilia or incredibly their auto then you genuinely would have been on cloud 9. Trends change over time, so maybe if memorabilia, particularly game used isn’t that desirable at the moment, perhaps demand might change in the future is en-masse collectors appreciation for it becomes more accepted and/or ppl have gotten sick of fake stuff used in cards. I consider the price a lot more harshly on relic only that is not guaranteed as game worn although I've still bought a few recently (Daniels Art Nouveau most recently). I also had a similar thought around game worn stuff being currently devalued and came across a Tim Duncan game worn from the 2013-2014 season at $20. So it does look like some people will devalue the real game worn stuff

I believe I have only about 5 memorabilia card remaining in my PC. All are from high end sets, like Exquisite and older Ultimate Collection, etc., and that's it. I got rid of everything else, years ago, knowing it's extremely likely to not be game worn and/or from the player on the card. Topps has a HUGE opportunity in the NFL card market. If they are able to get NFL holograms on swatches from top players, that would link to a website with listing(s) of game(s) the swatch is from, it will add a TON of value to jersey and patch cards in the NFL product realm. They've done it with MLB.

i view it as people getting smarter about this stuff but there will always be a greater fool to sell stuff too that doesnt understand what they are buying

If it's a player from my pc and it's a nice patch and the price is right I'll grab it even if its not player worn etc

I love relic cards and collect them passionately, but mainly the 00s UD and some Fleer/ Topps stuff (20 years ago relics were legit hits not far from autos). Also some early panini relic stuff but nothing from todays products appeal me. It feels really crazy to me that for example early Select game used relic numbered parallels sells for less than the same parallel of a base card lol

The NTs of Wembanyama are a joke. All of them are not game worn. I would rather they just make a non-auto non-relic card of him.

They put it in so they can sell it a box with “find an auto or memorabilia card” to jack up the price!

I collect game used jerseys and patches. Relatively cheap still and fits my budget. I like that I can still buy LeBron or Kobe games used jersey cards cheaper than a price of a blaster box. Now those “not associated cards” those don’t make sense to me and I stay away from those.

2016 Flawless Soccer is so well done. Effort is shown in the quality of the cards and It is probably my favorite sets to collect. They only did it one time and I look at current products that are 5x the cost of the old sets and have no interest in them.

Game/Match worn with a nice looking patch I'll take all day long over a card that is the same as a base card with a bunch of parallels. There is nothing unique with most of the junk people overpay for. The only parallels to me that matter are true gold or a matching color and on older sets that didn't have 100 parallels. Auto's have to be on card or it's just junk to me at least.

Some cards look nice with a patch even if it’s fake. What I don’t understand is getting excited about shields and logo man 1/1 cards. Ya it looks cool but that’s it. Why value those highly? Because most people are sheep and chase what they think everyone else says has value. I would never pay up for a Dick’s NFL shield card. That what most of this business is. People use influence to push people to chase BS

With all the scams and fraud in the sports card hobby, I think people who collect cards, memorabilia and autographs are dumb, it's a shit show, 90% of people in the hobby I bet are scammers fraudsters decievers to some degree,

I believe relic cards in general are overrated there fun to pulled if your opening boxes but paying for some of there’s cards it’s not worth it even if there game used.

I can't understand why the rookies are not associated, but the veterans are generally at least player worn. These products are being released deep into the season. They have the time. I'll still only buy vets when im buying a patch card.

I think, if you're the kind of person who buys singles for your PC, you don't want non-associated stuff. (Personally I don't like patches or signatures of any kind, and don't give a stuff about the numbering, I'm all about the image, but that's neither here nor there). The reason there's so much of this stuff, as well as so many different parallels, is for the people opening packs. So you get more 'hits', and the opening experience feels better, even if the monetary value is still basically nil. If I open up an /75 card, or even out of /249 card, that feels better than just a bunch of base. Same with the patch cards. It's all about making people feel better about their openings, creating an artificial appearance of scarcity, without creating actual scarcity. Why? Simple. If you create actual scarcity, most packs have to be filled with base, or you have to print way fewer cards and make packs $500 a pop. Look at the way everyone raves about hoops premium stock! People absolutely love it, because even though it's really low value, it feels good to open because the numbered cards and the parallels pour out of it. By having crap patches and a billion parallels, the real collectors can still chase the rare meaningful stuff, and the rest of the more casual population (and the breakers, who buy a large chunk of the product) get to feel good about their hits

Alot of the backs say not associated with game or event... Nothing about the player so it is assumed it's from the players jersey. Some do say "player" but not all. Imo that's fraud. But what do I know?

Are they really going to shred up an expensive game used Jordan, James, Doncic or Curry jersey in the first place? Cheaper undervalued player worn jerseys must be purchased in many instances to save on costs.

I don't chase relics because I don't trust the card manufacturers any further than I can throw them. The companies themselves have become hobby grifters.

Personally I hope the value does go down or become not as collectible. I really enjoy them and the story behind having match worn stuff. I enjoy the art of the card way more than the value, actually value doesn't really matter to me, I collect to have them and look at them not sell them. But that's just me.

There are two distinct parts of the hobbies.people who collect for enjoyment and love all cards regardless of value. Then you have all the people who are only bothered about value. If you’re the former, ignore the latter as they are gambling addicts.

I think you're missing the point here Dan. People do want this stuff but it has been so watered down beyond what anybody can comprehend and therefore people are just sick and tired of the same crappy Walmart card. They haven't tried to improve or do anything in over 30 years. When these kind of cards first came out in the late 1990s they held a massive value because they were cool and they were game used and they were new and exciting. But none of that is the case anymore. Even autographs are kind of whatever now because one player could have hundreds of thousands of autographs. So where's the value and the fun when everybody can own hundreds of them for pennies.
