The "do your homework" mantra is an age old good practice. I was personally burned over 20 years ago when I took my dad's cards and mem to be consigned at a LCS. Two weeks later, their doors were closed, everything removed and never to be found. Hard lesson learned.
svenpatrick ya just to Rip, Steal, and Re-Seal those Boxes & Packs because most would rather rip people off then get a real, manual labor 9-5 job. Remember 95% of these Boxes & Packs are still Re-Sealable to this day... like it's still 1999 or some $hit??? It's so easy a 5th Grader can do it with enough practice! Precisely enough that 9 out of 10 would never even know the difference!!! Hell_there's better Tamper-Proof Packaging on most $1.25 cent Items at your local Hollar Tree 🌳 . It's down right pathetic, yet thousands still buy boxes for Hundreds if not Thousands of Dollars? Just to find out they got a 10% ROI, a dinged up Sherbert & an off-center Will Grier card!... Because the whole product was already precisely opened, gone through, precisely Re-Sealed, and sold to the next schmuck that doesn't buy directly from the manufacturer... & who knows how full proof that really is? On top of all that 75% of these games are played for Entertainment Purposes. Not to see who really wins! It's all about the Benjamins. Literally! Wake up
This hobby has gone to s**t. Card stores stealing cards, counterfeit cards being made, CT Scanners being used to cheat, scalpers raiding Walmart, Target and Costco's to take everything in stock, then trying to resell for 2x or 3x, shoplifters opening packs and boxes in the stores to steal the inserts, weighing packs of cards in store, etc. It's really a sad state of affairs.
It's common sense to know your market... if I'm selling a $200k vintage car I'm not going to do a trade-in with the local Kia dealer, or put my Picasso on consignment with a small gallery owner. For a start, they won't be covered by insurance. Also, they aren't likely to have the contacts to get the best price because they don't operate in those circles. I can appreciate people wanting to support their local business or someone they know well, but you're not doing that person any favours by putting them in a risky situation... and if they went local because the LCS's consignment fees were much lower, it's worth remembering that they're cheaper because they aren't paying for the extra insurance, security, etc that a high-end auction house has.
Good that he had documents. That means he likely was already worried that this exact situation would happen. That said the hobby is all money and gambling. Not surprising.
Moral of the Story: Never be lazy in life. Never expect others to do your work for you. Nobody can care about your cards and your belongings more than you can.
Horrible take lol. You can absolutely expect a card shop that sells cards to sell your cards on consignment. That is normal practice. This guy just got unlucky the shop was shady.
Stories like this are certain going to help the possibility of GameStop becoming a national brand for the card hobby since it’s backed by far more money than each individual LCS
Why don’t you do a video on Sportscard shop pre selling boxes for 80% above market … if everyone has an equal shot at getting picked in the draw ?? How can all these big online shops TAKE MONEY ON PRE SELLING ?? If they get cards boxes from topps as a dealer then they already pay well before market .. either way topps is allowing dealers to rip off consumers… if target or Walmart was to engage in this practice ? Itd be considered illegal?? In what other business is the ok ?? Remember the price used to be printed on the box to avoid this ?? This is much different then you buying a box and selling it for more … it’s topps & panini compliant in theft to the consumer …
Walmart does the same shit, the original drop is normal price than when that sells out they redrop for 3x or 4x. Nba hoops premium stock for example, dropped at 130 than redropped at Walmart for like 350+
Auctions charge lots of fees. Then you add in buyers fees. Shipping, Insurance. Then you add in the fact that selling on ebay is a rush to the lowest price. I will admit it might have been smarter to sell a few things at a time limiting your risk and making sure you are getting the price you want. Guessing he will get his stuff or money back as the LCS is responsible against pretty much everything except theft. In which case his insurance should cover.
I bet the guy was expecting his stuff to be sold instantly, this is a very common problem with things on consignment. He probably also is asking way higher than any sold comps that there might be. Also, the guy went through the LCS instead of one of these auction outlets we have today to avoid paying taxes on the sales of his items. You're technically suppose to report these large sales. "While the details of private sales may be difficult for tax agencies to track, legally, you are still obligated to report your capital gains on items you sell and to pay local taxes on items you purchase." If he went through ebay, goldin, or any other of these outlets to sell his card, they would submit the info to the irs and the seller would be on the hook to pay what taxes are owed. This is why you see a lot of people selling their higher end cards at card shows because its basically under the table transactions that don't get reported.
@@RobertLee-wi5kc did you even read my comment? It has nothing to do with trust and reputation, if that was the case, every auction site has LCS's beat to the ground when it comes to reputation. You been in business for 40 years, and nobody outside of your town knows about your business. You can pass by a random person on the street, and they know who EBAY is even if they never used them in their entire life. People use LCS to consign their stuff to avoid paying taxes.
Ppl don’t want to shop cards so they can choose to drop off cards at there LCS. Also plenty of card store have clientele that buy big cards. Many shops have other ppls cards in there showcases. Another big reason to sell thru a card shop is to get cash.
Interesting case. Paul Lesko has posted an additional recap, that includes specific cards. Crazy that the guy allegedly kept consigning items, without receiving payment. Fool me once, here, fool me again, and again....🤪
You mentioned the notification bell and I realized mine was turned off. I know it was set for all, but it was changed to off. All set now for all notifications! Keep up the good work!
There are good and bad LCS. Most people don't take the time to figure out which is which and build a working relationship with the good ones. I have one shop I send cards out for grading with and a different one an hour away for consignment. At least the guy was smart enough to have documentation.
PSA Vault still has not vaulted the slab purchased on ebay. The tracking shows handed off to the PSA Vault since August 18th. Whose at fault? Ebay or PSA Vault?
Hi man, thanks for sharing the video. anyways, do you need a graphic artist to work on your YT logo and banner? Update and redesign logo? for a cheap price...

But if we are all being perfect honest. Would u blindly trust a Rashad Washington before u trusted a William T Fillmore ? I know what im gonna get called for saying this. But I also know who everyone would trust blindly first.
Group submission is great, but also treacherous. I do it for a shop and personally for overseas friends. We’re as honest as it gets on both sides, would never ever rip someone off that trusted us. On the flip side, we make it clear that if something happens in shipping or at PSA or something, we don’t provide any compensation ourselves. We can’t afford to; we’re a couple guys helping people grade cards, not some huge biz with deep pockets. If that makes someone uncomfortable, I offer to walk them through the process of submitting it themselves. It’s not a sound idea to assume the same risk they’ll have also subbing a $600 card for $2 profit. That being said, we’ve grown steadily over the past couple years and have a great reputation. Just gotta be careful who you choose. Being a shop guarantees nothing, but us two guys are as trustworthy as they come.
How much does it cost to grade cards? I have never done it but I have TONS of Pujols rookie cards as well as some Ohtani, Judge, etc and I was thinking about getting like 20 graded. How much would that cost?
@@coopstain1728 that really depends on lots of factors. Are you doing it yourself at SGC? Are they running a special? Are you giving it to someone like me to middleman to PSA? There’s not a set one number price to answer that. But, SGC specials can run as cheap as $12, and PSA has some specials as cheap as $15. But, if you have no membership to PSA and you’re sending just a few cards yourself to say, PSA, it’ll run you $25 per card approximately, plus return shipping. The membership runs $150 per year and can be worth it if you submit large quantities, as it unlocks lower pricing tiers. Beckett runs about $15 base level I think, plus return shipping. Hope that helps!
