Trading places deserves the glory for the best film title.
I Might Be Cheating here but for me The Best Documentary of 2020 is The Last Dance about Michael Jordan
The core question of all art forms: what on earth is wrong with us?
Genius
I really love the original art work of film posters.
My Best Movies Of 1993 Jurassic Park The Nightmare Before Christmas Cool Runnings The Sandlot The Fugitive Demolition Man Menace II Society CB4 Who’s The Man Robin Hood Men In Tights Last Action Hero Sleepless In Seattle National Lampoon’s Loaded Weapon 1 Rising Sun Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey Judgment Night
I missed „Summer of 42“ and „The Go Between“. What a great year.
What a film title this would be: “Werner and the stupid chicken”
You're such a noble, righteous, humanist guy and one can hear the passionate magnanimity in your voice when you string together superlatives when talking about Ozu.
There are, literally, loads of films filmed in Mexico City, where I was born and still live in. Of the better known ones, I would add Buñuel’s El Ángel Exterminador and Cuarón’s first feature film: Solo con tu Pareja, The editing was GREAT. And I appreciate your effort going to the locations, who are actually quite far away from each other. From Chabacano Metro Station (Total Recall), to Romita (Los Olvidados), to “Our Lady of Holy Traffic” church (Romeo + Juliet), to the Satélite Towers (The Holy Mountain), and back to Cuarón’s house. I also appreciate your mentioning of Los Caifanes, an iconic film (though I would’ve love to see the scene where they dress up the Diana Cazadora fountain. Then the video would have been perfect).
It was a pleasure spending time in your great city. I will definitely check out Solo con tu Pareja!
Urban Legend
Kiss the Girls and Romy and Michelle’s High School reunión
Angel Heart is my favorite
Mighty Aphrodite
Election and Boys Don’t Cry
Young Adult by Jason Reitman kicked off the Nostalgia craze of the 2010s. Another depressing pic.
Great to see Güeros get a nod--Ruizpalacios's more recent Cop Movie is for my money even better. Cheers!
I would never expose children to a Jeunet & Caro movie.
8:17 Little do people know that the Romans regularly drank Gatorade during their crucifixions. It's tiring work, after all.
Mask of the Phantasm, I saw it in the theater. I have always believed that Batman The Animated Series is the best portrayal of Batman, and I think that quite a few people might just agree with me..... I was sitting out a 30 day sentence in county jail in the earliest 1990s, and I had already seen a couple of episodes of the show, so I nearly started a riot at 3:00 p.m. when someone tried to switch channels on the day room TV to watch C.O.P.S........I kid you not. Afterwards, everyone had a good time.
Awesome video. Don't forget BEVERLY HILLS CHIHUAHUA and FOR GREATER GLORY.
Another great Mexican Film you forgot to Add is my favourite of the 1960s Luis Buñuel’s Masterpiece The Exterminating Angel from 1962 another film that criticises the High Class .
That's a great film to mention and a huge omission from me! Cheers!
Blue Sky with Jessica Lange and Tommy Lee Jones doesn’t get enough love
Great video. The house used in Santa Sangre and Frida belonged to actor Emilio Fernandez. I skipped La Casa Azul and went there instead. Highly recommended.
Great video from our favourite globe-trotting content creator. I don't think you've missed anything of note out except maybe Che depicting Guevara's meeting Castro but that was only a moment in the movie. Thanks for mentioning the Frida documentary. I'll check it out.
great idea for a video! looking forward to the series, very informative!! what did you think of jim jarmusch’s ghost dog: way of the samurai? you never included it in your best films of 1999 (not even honourable mentions!)
I liked Ghost Dog. I love that Jarmusch is out there making his unique movies but I think he's just one of those directors that doesn't reach me as much as he reaches others. I still enjoy watching his films though.
Wonderful video!
Cheers!
Wow! What a treat. A great ideas for a video. Again, you've introduced me to films i haven't seen and some history i didn't know. Thank you. I would enjoy seeing you do more of these. Enjoy your day!
Thank you!
Amazing video! Thank you for such a fun and educational video about the films from Mexico City!
Thanks for watching!
First! Great video
Cheers!
Barton Fink is the closest thing to "the great American movie " that I can think of....to hell with Citizen Kane. Orson Wells was overrated and John Goodman deserved the Oscar for his friendly psychopath role. I got lucky and saw it in a theater two days after it came out.I was blown away, I'm kind of a movie geek and I have no complaints whatsoever about Barton Fink, it's in my all-time top ten favorites for many very good reasons.
The African Queen A Streetcar Named Desire Alice In Wonderland The Enforcer
More valuable Productions than in the last two decades.
Repo Man....can't say enough nice things about it...
Movie quality has been declining, especially here in the US. I think you'd make a great director.
Great work..I think the 70s was the apex of humanity Would sometime like to see your all time films.
Apocalypto was quite good.
Great list.. classic films
Love that Joker 😂
Possibly a pinnacle year for film production. As ever, a great list. I love this channel.
You forgot to mention Donald Sutherland in the Dirty Dozen.
Dr Strangelove must have scared the shit out of the Russians. They might have thought it was an accurate portrayal of the gung ho US military commanders.
The Leopard reminds me of the movie 1910.
I don’t know if I'm scared shitless or sexually aroused when I hear him laughing
1. The Life of Brian 2. Manhattan 3. Apocalypse Now 4. Alien 5. All that Jazz 6. Being There 7. The Inlaws 8. The Tin Drum 9. The Muppet Movie 10. Meatballs
Chips Rafferty and Donald Pleasance should be given posthumous Oscars for how good they are everyone is brilliant..The Tomato Juice Beer is something I remember seeing as a child ..like a healthy option ugghhh
Oh no are we still feeling liberal guilt about the The Deer Hunter's portrayal of the Vietnamese and Virtue signalling/apologising about potential 'racism'? Should Cimino have put sone nice, friendly Vietnamese characters in just to avoid such accusations? Thank god he didn't.
