    To hold the pole straight by yourself. I used 3 foundation stakes and 3 cheap racket straps and a level. stick pole in hole then tighten each strap that's hooked to stake and to top of pole or connect it to pole anyway that works level as you tighten each strap and there it is held in place and straight up and down. It worked for me.

    I'm a little concerned if panels being so close to the ground can withstand an animal walking over them. Very nice install overall, since you already have a thermometer inside, let us know how hot it gets inside the box, maybe that concrete on the lid has enough termal mass and you don't have to worry about cooling after all.

      My understanding is that civilizations mostly settled first in places with easy to access water from lakes, rivers, or rain and then at some point they figured out how to make wells, probably at first using power from ox or donkeys or something like that. But since they didn't have great drilling heads yet or steam or hydraulic power, I think this only worked for shallow ground water. Eventually you get to where we are now where diesel fuel and hydraulics and advanced drilling heads can go through rock for hundreds (or thousands) of feet!

    Your information is laid out in a way that makes the idea of doing this more feasible. I was thinking to save power, you could source a pair of the older AC mesh and with the addon directional antennas, you could tune the power way down and still have a good connection; or if you don't need wifi at the entennas, you could use a couple of Nanostation AC Locos.

    This is great - one would think that "WiFi in a Box" was available commercially, or really "PoE in a box" coming with everything but the end device (e.g. WiFi Access Point), then you can just drop these things all over the place and plug Mesh AP's in them. Yes, you explained how you could do that but rather than buying and building with all he parts, would much prefer to buy one SKU! But that's not the name of this channel of course :-)

    • @LetsOverthinkThis
      @LetsOverthinkThis 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's a good point but I think the problem is that the poe relies entirely on how many things you want to power and the environment. Even if they had the poe in a box for one wifi device, what assumptions would they make around how many hours of sun and at what location, you know? The system I needed for my 2 cameras and one antenna, located in a place with lots of solar energy and few full cloud days is different from what others would need. It's very hard to generalize and they'd have to WAY overdo it to actually promise a working product that was all in one. Just my 2 cents!

    • @nycslane
      @nycslane 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      agreed, and the different types of PoE as you mentioned - I am a Network Engineer in my day life :-) I still think WiFi is driving force as some/many have figured out power - I use Blink outdoor camera and while their videos aren’t the highest quality, they work on AA batteries and last for years (I think)!

    • @LetsOverthinkThis
      @LetsOverthinkThis 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I've had them like this for well over a year and they work great. Definitely not aimed right but not too bad. What heat are you referring to? There's like an inch of air gap under them. They're flat (in angle) but not in contact.

    • @arsenicjones9125
      @arsenicjones9125 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@LetsOverthinkThis what heat? The heat that any object sitting in direct sun faces? Laid flat is the hottest orientation and as heat increases the efficiency of the panel decreases. Yes your setup works but is it efficient output for the panels you’ve got. No.

    • @LetsOverthinkThis
      @LetsOverthinkThis 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@arsenicjones9125 Thanks for the reply! By "what heat" I meant radiant, etc. :) I think you bring up a good point that's not as simple as presented. I assume the heat you're talking about is the heat trapped under the panel, since a flat panel doesn't promote any convective currents underneath it. BUT, my panels are not oriented to actually CAPTURE as much heat as they would if they were tilted. IE my flat panels are in no way *capturing* the most heat. For where I am, my panels should be roughly 10 degrees off of "flat" in June, but 58 degrees off of "flat" in December. What would be interesting to see is what orientation is actually the "hottest" where it's a balance of capturing the most heat and not letting it convect out from under it. Given how suboptimal my panel alignment is for capturing the solar energy, I rather doubt the answer is 0 degrees flat like I have them. But it's an interesting thing to ponder and I appreciate the comment.

    • @arsenicjones9125
      @arsenicjones9125 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@LetsOverthinkThis oh so the sun doesn’t strike the sides of the container and heat doesn’t convect thru or radiate from metal. The top is only shielded from the solar radiation directly absorbed or reflected by the panel. So that’s not helping you to stay cooler. you don’t have to do experiments for yourself it’s all been done and explained in the literature. We’ve not even hit on the issue of how frequently you’ll need to clean the panels of dust to preserve your output. I get it you don’t wanna hear it from some random commenter but that’s what you get when you share online.

    • @LetsOverthinkThis
      @LetsOverthinkThis 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@arsenicjones9125 Deep breath, I'm just trying to have a good conversation here not "win" any argument. I asked you originally what heat and you shot back a generic comment about the sun making heat, so I opened a conversation about the angle to the sun vs the convection angle below. Now you're being more clear about the heat radiating FROM the container to the back of the panels, which is a fair point but not something you mentioned. Yes, of course there is heat there, too. Not as much as you'd imagine, though. There is always a breeze or wind out there, the top of the container is painted with special white roofing paint that keeps the heat down, and while the ambient temp does get hot for a month or two, it's actually not very hot there most of the year. YES, there is heat. But everything is a tradeoff and I've found this one to be acceptable. I'm optimizing for mounting convenience, portability, and minimal roof penetrations, and not optimizing for solar collection or panel efficiency. To your point about dust, YES of course there is dust. I'm in a desert. The wind does a good job of cleaning bulk dust off but the extra fines occasionally build up and I've wiped them off every ~8 months to prevent that. This would be somewhat better at an angle but since everything (even vertical surfaces) out there have fine dust on them, adding 10 degrees or so to my panels wouldn't likely help a lot. Like ANY solution, the magnet mounting I've gone with has tradeoffs and is optimized for some things and not others. It's a 58 second video so it's not comprehensive on the subject ;)

    It's a pure marketing gag. It's the difference between "maximum" voltage and "nominal" voltage of the same lithium batteries. What really annoys me is that they changed the mechanical shape of the batteries and tools. So the batteries are the same but they will not fit in the other tools. When he says "they re all the same", he's right. But only from an electrical point of view. Mechanically thea are NOT THE SAME. You will have to cut some plastic away to make a 10.8V battery fit into a 12V tool. Amazingly the chargers work for both types because the contact part is the same on both battery types. Put box w/electronics under solar panels with poles on both sides , dig two holes for poles . SURROUND IT W/ ROCKS and put cement around box between rocks!above ground level! Now you have a raised box inside a man made rock !( you could even put some kind of natural insulation around and under box . I would use rocks the size of a block w/ some flat spots and seal the lid w/ a raised vent Use the panels to shade the electrical use a fan under panels to cool electronics in box, bet it gets plastic melting hot in summer !so id put something over the lid for insulation! I think ventilation is more important than water protection 😊 You can raise solar panels up a little and anchor it with the poles 😊 W/ 2 poles you could support a tracking system to follow the sun😊 Longer pole better view?

    Great job on video and narration! I am a retired drilling contractor of 42 years, My wife and I owned a very similar rig to this one and these are really amazing machines. Great job on putting this together and posting.

    Excellent! Short and to the point. I own a few Bosch tools - mainly corded - but bought the drill/driver 10.8v combo about 10 years ago. When I went in search of replacement batteries, I could only find 12v. Both drill and driver are still going strong, and although I tend to use my Hitachi 18v drill and impact for more demanding work, I have had a good decade of use out of these excellent tools. Good to know I can now pick up a couple of replacement batteries that will be compatible with the charger and the tools. Thanks for sharing.

      Glad it helped! My 10.8 and 12v-labeled batteries are all running strong after so many years. Thx for watching 😊

    Thank's posting all the valuable content and making things so clear. I'm starting a little rehab cabin project close to you in Wonder Valley and wondered if you had any recommendations for a perc test and driller. Thanks again. Excited to see the progress on your place

      Glad you enjoyed it! I definitely recommend North American drilling but don't have anyone for perf test that I'd really recommend, sorry to say. Best of luck to you!
