"LUMENous GARDEN by FoldHaus" Kinetic Origami Exhibit at Pacific Place, Art Basel Hong Kong

I help lead the all-volunteer kinetic artwork collective, FoldHaus, based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Recently we were hired to bring 2 of our "Shrumen Lumen" works and one "Blumen Lumen" together to form a mini origami garden at Swire's Pacific Place in Hong Kong.
Aided by Art Partners HK and SPARK in New York, we are super grateful to have the opportunity to bring our crazy art to a new part of the world AND to have it be on display in public where no ticket is needed to see it.
In addition to much custom hardware, circuitry, and novel techniques needed to weld, crease, and fold this much plastic, we were inspired by the unique movement of the Origami Magic Ball, that Yuri and Katrin Shumakov of @oriland_origami were the first to enclose the Waterbomb pattern on which the ShrumenLumen (the mushroom in the garden) was based.

All custom parts in aluminum, steel, and lots of welded and hand folded polypropylene. Not simple to explain!
