This is Why Royal National Park Keeps You Coming Back...
Tune into another episode, this time I take you through Sydney's Royal National Park, a staple in the Sydney cycling scene. A weekend warriors paradise.
What started as a casual weekend spin turned into an unexpected leg-tester. This route's got a bit of everything - rolling national park roads leading to some proper climbs (well, the longest we've got nearby), topped off with a cheeky chop on the way home.
The intensity dialed up quickly, pushing out a new 5-minute power PB at 411 watts while trying to hold Tim's wheel on one of the climbs, Artillery Hill. His VO2 max is in another league though, making it a challenge and a half to stick with him...Good training for Peaks Challenge right?
If you live in Sydney, chances are you've done this route once or twice and can relate, however, if you are from overseas well this is a must when visiting Sydney, Australia. Its truly an awesome ride, just make sure you aren't alone going through that tunnel!
By the time we hit the first coffee stop, the legs were feeling it, and by day's end, we were properly cooked. If you want to see what happens when a mellow ride turns spicy on one of Sydney's classic routes, kick your legs up and hit play.
Stick around to hear me narrate parts of this ride. Hope you enjoy this style of video!

Rolling With Pro Cyclists at The Grind...Part Two

Tune into another episode, where we are back at The Grind with 3 pro cyclists. This time around there was no breakaway, unsure if this was a blessing or a curse, you'll have to watch along to find out for yourself. I managed to get a new 20-minute power PB at 345 watts, and the last time I held that was on a trainer doing an FTP effort, so it was definitely a spicy session! In the cycling world...

Love this video Max, I've been binging your content for the last few days. I'm a MTBer mostly but considering going on the road (those speeds!) I love seeing all the different bikes being used properly on your channel man. Could you recommend maybe 3 or so starter bikes which you would recommend for someone with a budget of around £2k for the sort of riding you do? (I'd be happy to buy used). Are the bikes you guys use Aero ones or just very high end good road bikes, I can't really tell

Stoked! Im gonna be making a trip to sydney with the roadie in march and this has gone to the top of the hit list. If you got any other hot tips for some solo runs round Sydney I am all ears.
@@banksiaspinulosa7442 Sick!! Definitely gotta hit this up. I’d just say be careful going through the tunnel I go through solo, Sydney drivers hate us in it 😂 Eastern beaches is pretty awesome too, about 35ks but you ride all along the coast line, see the harbour bridge from the top of heartbreak hill, can checkout the gap, pass by bondi too 👍🏻 another favourite of mine for a longer ride is Church Point from the city. Where are you staying?
Ill be staying in bondi for the weekend. Thank you kindly for the tips. Let the research begin!

@@PhilPerd Are you saying to avoid the tunnel? I’ve always ridden this way, definitely not the safest but in holiday period the roads aren’t too busy so it’s okay 🤷♂️
Is Attaquer getting popular, or has it always been in Aus? Can tell you that i'm the only guy who wears Attaquer in a sea of PNS kits here in Denmark. Actually sold all my PNS gear cause it gave me cringe vibes seeing we ALL had the same kit on in very ride 🙈🙊
It is a well known Sydney brand as that’s where they are from originally, so quite commonly seen. How is the cycling in Denmark!? Must go visit 👌🏻
@@ItsMaxMann It's good fun here, the level is just insane even for the lower ranks. Also with weekly infamous group rides/race. Brutal flight tho, think you're looking at around 16 hours

Nike fury headbands are good for stopping sweat dripping down onto your face.
Thanks for the hot tip mate, do they go under the helmeT? I honestly think the main problem is my helmet lining needs a replacement ASAP! It doesn't absorb anymore haha
@@ItsMaxMann Yeah. Thin and stretchy. I think helmet lining only provides some cushioning, they're not really made to absorb sweat.
@ the more you know hey! I sweat a lot so could be something to look into to get it out of my eyes 😂
My vote is a Castelli Headband, very low profile keeps the drips out of your glasses by wicking the sweat so it can evaporate.
@ My glasses are hardly worn 😂😂 I want new ones… maybe then I’ll complain about the drips in my glasses instead of my eyes 🤣

@@maccamccarthy The other way is much easier on the legs, I agree

Loved the vid but you were scaring me with how close you were to the parked cars on that last little bit where you are riding home. I have scars on both hands from swinging car doors, so space and care OK?
Thank you mate, glad you enjoyed it. I've had a few people comment on the 'door zone' you kinda gotta ride the door zone when you are solo and its single laned with no bike lane, just be weary of what is ahead... trust me I worry myself! That sucks mate, glad you are still riding tho.
Thank you for sharing this awesome video
Thanks Chuck! Love that you enjoyed the video 🙂
That's one way to avoid the queues at Hong Ha lol.
haha believe it or not, there were a few tradies waiting for them to open 🤣
ZOMG! You gave up your spots at Hong Ha? *shakes head* :P I adore riding the RNP, best experience was a Sunday morning rolling up during a light shower that stopped as I got to Stanwell Park so climbing Bald Hill and the descent of Artillery was just this glistening cathedral of trees that was just quiet apart from the tyres... gloriously ethereal. Naturally the legs died at Garie beach rd, so the ride back was casual. :D
haha just a meetup spot, nothing special! The boys will forgive me. RNP is great, you are brave descending in the wet tho! I would've snoozed the alarm at the smallest droplet of water 🤣I haven't done Garie beach climb, on the list tho.

@@samueloberg1192 Thanks mate, glad you liked it! I weigh 89kg and my ftp is 338 W, I think it’s probably high 3s to low 4s w/kg on this ride 🫠
@ItsMaxMann Nice, impressive that you can hold on in these groups on hilly(?) routes. Huge anaerobic power? Lets see some power testing in the future. Lets get to 4 w/kg, im basically there in terms of a 20 min x 0.95 but around 10-15 watts below on 60 min power.
@ I’m pretty useless when it gets hilly man! I can hold good power for 30/40 min efforts but need to work on sprinting and then sustaining high watts again. Nice mate, I think I’m about 4/wkg now but just haven’t done an ftp test in a minute 🫠
If you're looking for a bigger challenge, if you haven't already heard about the Boxing Day Papas ride in Perth, give it a crack. Usually 60km, but can go up to 75km. It's a proper unofficial race. Big crowds at the start and finish. All the local pros are in town and race. Now that perth has the nats, there could be more pros next year
Would love to do it mate, haven’t heard of it but it’s now on the bucket list. If I end up being in perth one year on Boxing Day I’ll be sure to join in on the fun. I don’t doubt that lots of pros would be there owing to NATS 2 weeks after 👍🏻👍🏻
