Andy Chambers on Battlefleet Gothic
A video I'd wanted to shoot for a long time, Andy Chambers was kind enough to sit down and talk about Battlefleet Gothic - from the initial concept to the release of the starter box set, and beyond with its support from Fanatic/Specialist Games and Forgeworld. Really awesome to hear him talk so passionately about the game and considering how well loved it is still, hopefully you'll enjoy this!

John Stallard and Robin Dews on Talking Miniatures
มุมมอง 1.5Kวันที่ผ่านมา
Last year John Stallard and Robin Dews, both veterans of Games Workshop, released "Talking Miniatures" - a wonderful book filled with conversations, stories and accounts from a wide range of "key" personnel from Games Workshop's past, including Rick Priestley, Bob Naismith, Tony Ackland and many more. It recently won the "Best Gaming Accessory" from On Table Top, and is an excellent book well w...

I popped up north to see Mike McVey! We'd been wanting to film this for a little while now, so it was really great to be able to go visit him and hear him talk about his career through GW and 'Eavy Metal, and have a look at some of the guidebooks he produced back then. John Blanche discussing more of his iconic artwork
มุมมอง 5Kหลายเดือนก่อน
Back in August 2023 I uploaded my first video - John Blanche discussing a few of his most famous pieces of Warhammer Art. It was really well received as there wasn't much of this sort of thing online. Since then I've gone on to do a number of other videos, but John and I decided it'd be good to do another Art video. Similar format as before, we picked a few of his iconic pieces and just got him...

I spent an afternoon hanging out with Jervis Johnson and Rick Priestley who were kind enough to spend a bit of time chatting about the history and development of Necromunda. There's some really interesting talk about the "shrinking the 40k sandbox" mindset, and how the game's continued support through Fanatic Magazine came to an end (in an official capacity). Rick also discovers Warhammer: The ...

Battlefleet Gothic is a cool game if one that is slow and one you need to be far thinking to do well. I taught some of my friends in High School how to play it and we played for a while. Never was as popular as 40k with us but still alot of fun to have my own Chaos Marine and Imperial fleet. I loved building and painting the models.

Mike was with no doubt one of my GW heroes... so many many times I tried so hard to imitate his work, I stared hours and hours to his work. Moving back and forth on the White Dwarfs and his painting guides pages. Back in the day I was barely able to read english so for me the images were all I got. So, shortly put, even now that I came back to the hobby (in my mid 40's) and start painting again... I feel I owe so much to this man. Thanks Mike!

Best ruleset GW ever put out by far What I particularly liked about it was each faction was truly unique and had its own play style and tactics. The Eldar and Ork rules are incredibly thematic. 8:40 my absolute favorite image of Battlefleet gothic. Dropfleet Commander is my favourite game ever, so thanks to Andy for making it. Would love a dedicated interview on how that was developed. Even simple things like the rulebook being the same dimension as BFG really adds to the game. Seeing the ships with their rules profiles below was very reminiscent of building airfix ships as a kid with the stat tables below a profile picture. And can confirm - the ships do blow up just a bit too easily! But the signature / scan system is just amazing; as Andy once said it's the Hunt for Red October in space.

Speaking of scaling, one of my favourite elements of BFG is how well it scales up and down, it makes for an amazing fleet game but plays just as well with a cruiser and 2-4 escorts. One of my favourite elements of its scalability is how you can take a big fleet each side and break it down to give a crowd of people one ship each.

Another video with Andy making an "Up Front" reference! Was it a happy mistake with the experience chart and giant killer bonuses in Necronmunda and Gorkamorka or simply brilliant design? Their Specialist range of games were simply strokes of genius; sure we'd do a Nercomunda and/or Gorkamorka campaign then go back to 40k/Fantasy for bit before another campaign. I could (and probably many here) can recall stories of great battles...such as a Necromunda "Scavengers" game where the GM (we had a special events and stuff thrown at us) where "the monster" was a Genestealer that unsurprisingly tore into the sacrificial juve and the other gang voluntarily bottled leaving me to deal with a Genestealer. After losing a couple fighters my leader ended it with a melta gun. Then the Gorkamorka silliness where opposing mobs would shoot/punch each other in the face and couldn't hurt each other. Failing boarding tests and getting run over (to no ill effect due the the natural toughness of Orks) always got a few laughs.
