Great to hear you guys sharing such wonderful and inspiring memories of working on the Mordheim project - the stand out project of the time - everything came together: game ideas, artistic vision and fantastic models - and I couldn't think of two people better suited to carry that banner forward. You may be surprised to know I still have the Morheim gang that I converted back in the day - all converted from the Empire range of the day - it has not seen the tabletop for many years but I wouldn't part with it - nice reminder of great times. Thanks very much for putting this together.
Don’t want to sound cringe. But may I say that I am happy to see my childhood hero’s are still connected and actually friends. You are all awesome guys!
My favourite game GW gave ever put out on every level. I loved the models, the lore, the art, and the pervasive sense of despair that ran through the whole game. Just a magical release. So great to hear from Pirenen and Blanche on this.
@@lukeboy61 i just printed the book for $30 and i have a table of laser cut terrain. You can use any fitting models on the tabletop to make a warband, and most of the originals are either units you can buy currently or find decently cheap replacements for. There's no reason we need a reprint for them to screw up. Just do a bit of DIY.
Heeey, I actually met Tuomas at the event he mentioned! He seemed to spend a lot of time wondering around the huge convention, but visited the Oldhammer tournament (WHFB 4th or 5th edition I think) quite a few times. Wouldn't have otherwise been easy to spot because he's kinda on the shorter side and a lot of the players were burly dudes 185cm in all directions. However, it was immediately obvious when he was around because everyone treated him like a rockstar, asking for autographs and telling how the stuff he wrote defined their childhoods. Also, his leather jacket was pretty cool.
Having them interviewed in the together, and the way they interact is so fitting for the kind of collaboration they're talking about! I was around 16 and had just started to consistently get White Dwarf when Mordheim took off. At least I felt the enthusiasm for it, from what these guys set in motion, to iconic little illustrations, the architecture, and all the ways to kitbash it with popsicle sticks, haha. It's wonderful to hear their stories and thoughts on such great times, thank you!
Thank you so much for the content that you produce. I used to carry the mordheim rulebook to school with me every day back when i was a kid, id read it constantly and that game more than anything defines what warhammer is for me, and what excellence in game design is.
Two absolute legends. Thank you for this interview - it will a testimony about dedication and vision for future players who had no luck to live in golden age of wargaming.
May this series of interviews never end. It adds a level of history to the games I grew up with (and continue to cherish to this day) that I hope to pass onto my children when they're old enough.
I loved/love Mordheim. It was the deep background/fiction/setting of Mordheim which really appealed to me. The details of Mordheim, the hidden connections to Warhammer Fantasy, the history of Mordheim (and the Empire), it was/is brilliant. It seemed as if every-one involved was invested on making Mordheim something genuinely worth diving into (as opposed to some modern products/backgrounds). The people involved should be proud of creating something so amazing. I would also say that the writers of Mordheim were among the best of the best. (Of course, John Blanche's drawings/atmosphere were/are brilliant as well. It's just that every-one already knows of Blanche's talents.)
Damn, that’s just a marvelous thing about “invented symbolism” of a medieval style. It’s funny that I’ve been searching for a source or inspiration for that Owl, and found that it may be one of the demons from Ars Goethia 😄
Fantastic. Mordheim and Blood Bowl are the only GW miniature games I actually still have an active interest in, so this is even better than your prior interviews
Both marvellous games. I was always much more interested in the small-scale skirmish games myself, and I think blood bowl was my favourite, personally. Necromunda too, that was good.
It was my great pleasure and privilege to give a pamphlet to John Blanche at the 2012 Inquisitor GT, he smiled, opened his wallet and showed us gathered members of the conclave his battered Artist ID. We were gonsmacked and he ended up judging the painting portion of the event. It was epic.
I note Tuomas says it’s unfortunate they eventually blew up the warhammer world. I agree; I’ve never really liked AOS, something too World of Warcraft about it in my view
Love Mordheim. Found the interview a little odd though, John Blanche seems disinterested, whilst Tuomas Pirinen seems a little angry/aggressive at times.
Wish you'd just used the built in TH-cam close captions instead of putting them on top. I feel like I can understand them fine and find the (somewhat inaccurate) captions distracting...
@@Nazareth-nd8cs yeah, I really love and appreciate these videos. They're great and showcase a part of Warhammer history I never knew about or had access to... so hopefully the creator takes it in the spirit of constructive criticism that it's meant. Sorry it bothered you so much, not my intent!
I love these videos, and I mean this in the spirit of being supportive, please, please, invest in even the most basic and cheap sound equipment. The sound is appalling, only John is clear. I have to watch with subtitles, that’s how bad it is. These are records of pivotal people in important times in our hobby history, they need to be recorded with clarity and care. Thank you. Keep it up!

Ha that’s awesome Rick! Would love to see that warband!
Rick, sir please gift us with a couple images of your warband!

I’ve spent 25 years wondering what all the fish were about and John is all “I can make up symbolism and not tell anyone what it means.”
Lol. Fish were souls iirc.

I bloody love that Owl.
Yes, us Oldhammerers enjoy these productions so very much. Living legends.
Damn I could listen to Mr.Blanche for hours and hours.
MY IDOLS!!!!!!!!!!!!Thank you for burning our brains!!!Stay Healthy!!
THE greatest game that GW ever made. Still fun, and they can't screw it up!!!!
Until they release Warhammer the Old World: Mordheim. Which I am sure they will.
I really wish they would simply re-release it. Exact same game, same models in the box. Shame it'll never happen

@@antigrav6004 Right? It was always very DIY, which is what I love about it.
These guys are my rock stars. Thanks so much for sharing this. Mordheim just has so much SOUL. Nothing else will ever come close.

The whole thing is a joy, but I loved hearing Toumas making John belly laugh talking about Nigel Stillman
Fantastic timing, I have been voraciously consuming Mordheim content on YT this week, and your interviews are always awesome!
Two legends in the same frame. Thank you for this!
Really enjoyable seeing this.
Warhammering since 2000.
Love Mordheim.

Awesome interview with two legends
Another awesome video - these will be watched in 500 years' time by alchemy students

An excellent listen. Two legends👍
YES!! The heroes we don't deserve, but the heroes modern gamers need. Thank you for putting this together!
Thanks for this video ❤
Great video, absolutely love Mr Blance, grew up with his art as many did. Thank you
Honestly, this channel is a treasure trove for Warhammer history, such persnal stories, I love em1

Great game, that we still play to this day! The artwork used to freak me out (in a good way!) as a kid!
Thanks for the video and love from Finland
Legends!
Thank you for this wonderful interview!
Excellent work once again
I really hope you have an interview with Jervis Johnson lined up.
👍👍👍👍 great interview
great!
Man I hope GW re-releases the militia sprues for Old World
Out of all the fantasy based games, mordheim was by far my favourite system.

Amazing :)
Jeeez I never knew Wayne did the Mord-crow
For the algorithm.
I could swear the cover raven is by Dave Gallagher and not Wayne England. :D
Thomas sounds like Kai Murros
Who is that? Tuomas sounds like a generic Finnish guy, name pretty much gives it away.
Love Mordheim. Found the interview a little odd though, John Blanche seems disinterested, whilst Tuomas Pirinen seems a little angry/aggressive at times.

SIGMAR LIED? MORDHEIM comes back?
If you're going to be speaking to them on camera, can you mic yourself up in future

I guess I’m just crap at it, they both had individual microphones. Sorry to disappoint
GW ought to bring Mordheim back.
Seems like Tuomas is annoyed when the interviewer is speaking, but maybe that is just how he is? :)
