Our New Zealand Vacation
We went to New Zealand in October because Derick was invited as a guest at Armageddon Expo in Auckland. We had way too much fun. I hope we get to go back in the future. I understand this video isn't really what everyone wants to see from me but I love making travel videos.

Making Regency Short Stays
มุมมอง 6Kปีที่แล้ว
With the making of Bridgerton the Regency Era is more popular than ever so I decided it was time for me to jump on this bandwagon and sew some Regency stays so I can eventually make myself a dress for a Georgian picnic I have coming up later this fall. Pattern: redthreaded.com/products/regency-short-stays-pattern-individually-sized-paper-pattern Grommets and boning: corsetmaking.com/ Coutil: ww...
Victorian Myth Busting: Were Women Allowed to Lift Their Arms?
มุมมอง 2.5Kปีที่แล้ว
There are so many myths surrounding the Victorian era from corsets rearranging organs, to Queen Victoria herself being a sexless humorless woman but this myth was something I had never heard before. This video came about as I was sewing my bustle dress and had some issues fitting the bodice. I went to a facebook group to ask some advice and many people came back at me that there was nothing wro...
Making an 1870s Victorian Era Bustle Dress
มุมมอง 7K2 ปีที่แล้ว
I didn't think I was going to get this video done. I started working on this video on May 21st and it was a beast to film and an even bigger beast to edit but it is done! When I tell you that the inner 8 year old in me is jumping for joy over this dress. When I was a kid I loved looking at the art book my great grand mother had of impressionist paintings and wished I could dress up in all of th...
I Created 10+ Outfits By Adding a Few Pieces to My Closet
มุมมอง 2.8K2 ปีที่แล้ว
I needed some new summer outfits and people have been asking for more 1930s content so I am here to deliver. While this project didn't end up how I hoped I'm still really happy with the results. I have several pieces that have been in constant rotation in my daily wardrobe. That's really all I can ask for. I'm planning some more 1930s and 1940s videos in the future so stay tuned! Can I make An Entire Set of Victorian Undergarments in Three Weekends?
มุมมอง 2.4K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Spoiler alert: No. I want to make an 1870s bustle dress but before I can do that I need all of the under garments. Unfortunately I have no time in my life currently but I'm going to try anyway. I am making an 1860s corset using Redthreaded's corset pattern, a chemise and corset cover using Bella Mae's patterns, and a pair of drawers from Ninonella's pattern. This is my first time sewing a two l...
Sewing a 1920s day dress
มุมมอง 9K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Spring is here and that means it is time for the Jazz Age Sunday Social. It is an incredible event that happens in Dallas in March. After two year it was finally back and so I wanted to go all out for it. I wanted to make something that would stand out from the crowd. They have a best dressed completion and I have made it my life goal to win first. Sometimes I feel like the 1920s aesthetic is a...

Giving My Sewing Room an *Aesthetic* Makeover
มุมมอง 1.4K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Really this should be titled "Finishing the makeover I started a year ago" but it just doesn't have the same ring to it. Making the closet useable was something I wanted to do from the beginning but buying a house and moving is expensive so I gave myself a year to live in the house and figure out what I could live with and what needed to be upgraded immediately and both my sewing room closet an...
What a Christmas Cruise is Really Like
มุมมอง 4992 ปีที่แล้ว
Christmas has been a complicated time of year since I became an adult. Nothing will capture the magic of Christmas as a kid. Christmas Day in past years had become an endless day of visiting various family members without rest. In 2019 Christmas fell in a way that didn't allow us to go out of town to visit our families so we had a quiet Christmas at home with just the two of us. It was warm eno...
I Attempt to Recreate Judy Garland's Christmas Dress From Meet Me In St Louis
มุมมอง 2.7K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Have you ever seen a dress and immediately know you have to make it? When I saw Meet Me In St Louis for the first time I fell in love with Judy Garland's gorgeous red velvet Christmas gown. How can you not love it? Of course I have a soft spot for 1940s does turn of the century that a lot of movie musicals did so well back then. Its not quite historical but not quite contemporary. I don't go in...
Vintage Thrift Flip - Turning a 1980s Dress into a 1940s Suit
มุมมอง 3.2K2 ปีที่แล้ว
I used to thrift flip all the time when I was first learning to sew. Fabric is expensive and I didn't want to waste that money if I messed up. I stopped though when I got better because it is a lot more work sometimes than just starting from scratch. While at a thrift store a while ago I came across this wonderfully green vintage1980s dress and I couldn't resist thinking about all the wonderful...

Nice outfits! The link didn’t work for the blouse pattern that you said you have made many times. Could you give the details of that pattern - I could see it was a McCalls but I didn’t catch the number. It’s so cute.

Absolutely loved what you did the with long cardigan at 5:00. I need to do that to give my long cardigans some structure and not look so sloppy and casual. I was SO hoping you would tell us where you got the sweater and skirt at 6:43, but you didn't, so I'm thinking you thrifted them, dadgummit. I adored that outfit.

After adding the necessary slip with all the layers, that will shorten the skirt length. Also you need to add tulle inside to the upper sleeves to puff them out.

I wanted to wear my mother’s wedding dress when I got married. My grandmother made it for my mother. We took it to the dry cleaners… it disintegrated. I cried for days afterwards. Now that I know a lot more about fabric (I did sew back then, but wasn’t as familiar or concerned with the care and feeding of my garments), I would never take that dress to the dry cleaner. All that LACE! 😢 And as it was made in the 1960s, the satin was likely a synthetic blend (aka acetate). I would have washed it by hand and spot cleaned any stains, or I would have found a cleaner who specialized in vintage and wedding fabrics.

Where you had to repair the rip in the neck/bodice top you could have added a cameo brooch to cover the repair. I know it was barely noticeable, you did great hiding it, but with the brooch it would not be noticeable at all, and a cameo would fit that style perfectly.

Goodness sakes, you can see the puffs and the drop shoulders and the apparent gussets in most of the period photos. Disney movies gave me unrealistic expectations regarding bust darts.

I am fairly certain that edwardians had very weird definitions of 'informal'. They were wearing their structured undergarments while in those floaty looking tea gowns and floaty looking anything really. Wrappers and housecoats migth be better pattern bases, I am myself searching along those lines.
