I finally got a chance to watch this video and really enjoyed it. I liked how you narrated the training sessions and pointed out what you were seeing in Milton’s responses. I also enjoyed hearing that you’re listening to music while training…so cool! Most trainers on TH-cam are making the video to post so they’re talking /teaching as they train, so we don’t know what goes on the rest of the time. My take-aways when watching you are how calm, patient and persistent you are. I’m so happy that Milton wound up with an owner who could send him to you. Lucky horse for sure!! I love watching you. Thank you for sharing your expertise!!!

Excellent demo taking the stress from the horse. However, only ever using leather halters, I believe it is less about type of halter and more about how sensitive the horse is to the halter. People make horses heavy in halters as they do in bridles by hanging on n not releasing the feel fast enough. Lightness in hand makes a horse super responsive and similar under saddle.

At around 20:25 when he was having trouble going around in the new direction with a feel on the halter, would you recommend that someone who is less handy than yourself, go back to the direction where he was succeeding at the game and then try the new direction again?

I think you hit the nail on head when you said....patients!! I started having loading issues with my horse and it was because I realized I was getting in the habit of rushing to get loaded and get going. When I slowed down and didn't rush he went back to loading great! It was a lesson of self reflection!

How anyone can accuse Jake of rushing a horse is beyond me. He is one of the most patient, gentle horsemen I have ever seen, and I'm in my 60th year so I've seen a few.

Working off the fence like this makes so much sense. Hard to get bucked off the rail. I use a picnic table to mount because I seem to end up with tall horses and I have stubby legs. When I stand on the table top, my stirrup hangs about 1/8" above it on the current horse I have in. I can easily slide on and off, which I love. And then I can stand on the seat planks and mount from there later.

If this was my horse, I would be crying.

Very cool. However, you are speaking in a foreign language. For the average horse owner, it’s very difficult to understand. Vrooom…..left hind,, right front, polish, shine, lift, back and over, shape, the W word, draw beneath me, sloppy and loose, hook my butt, takin a feel. Perhaps you can translate?
