IK this is an old video, but one trick i did to make sure france doesnt cap italy or anything is request the netherlands units and put them somewhere else
@@JCM-jl8fu that's a good strategy!
Could you show the template you use for training divisions to deal with the soviets? I have a hard time designing divisions as mostly idk what im doing
Yeah, for me i think non historical is the best way to get the most out of austria hungary. You arent as rushed with time is germany goes civil war, and allows you to go liechtenstein HRE if the allies go ahistorical
Could be fun! A bit difficult for a guide unfortunately...
The poland bug annoyed me a lot while playing. Also the democratic eu path is shit. Even though the choice of joining or subjugation is high, the countries still reject. We don't even get some pp refund. Also the joint focus trees is a waste of time. None of the countries except albania use the joint focus tree
@@gocool_2.0 czechoslovakia was the only one to use it in my run. Very underwhelming... But probably the most interesting path for something a bit different. Because the Austria-Hungary one is literally the same as in the run with Hungary (a bit worse).
I don't know when the bug of Poland not giving anything started, but it wasn't there when the DLC first released From the focus paths you showed, I'd rank them from best to worst by 1. Austria Hungary, generally nice as there's not too much RNG, and you can easily form it and become powerful The main downsides are being in between two angry factions which can cause some weird stuff to happen with the AI Germany as it cannot invade the Soviet Union Sometimes plans not going well due to randomness, guarantees, or whatever (It's also repetitive technically, although I'd still recommend doing both Hungary and Austria's Austria Hungary paths) 2. European Federation/Union as the European President It's fun and short, you can easily take down Germany after creating a big faction, then play as a support nation similar to New Zealand or Canada and take down the Soviet Union afterwards with your faction, and your playthrough is done by around 1942 at most (you'd also have one or two countries integrated by now) Downsides are that it can be really short if you don't do anything after Germany capitulates You don't really expand much, and can't get too much war participation or large scale battles as a supporting country You rely mostly on the AI, and some extra RNG, although it can be reduced by improving relations, and a few other things 3. Communist Austria, the best way to play it is similarly to Tannu Tuva, where you just rely on the Soviets to destroy a nation you declare war on by joining the Commintern, while you take as much land to get as much war score as possible and slowly expand while creating horrible borders Downsides are that's about it, there's really nothing else to do There are also a few alternative choices such as puppeting instead of annexing as Austria Hungary, but those are generally worse than the three stated above (Such as your puppets giving away land or being declared on, or being the lone communist nation in Central Europe, surronded by Fascist Major Powers...)
@@glauberglousger956 I 100% agree! It will probably be EU Austria in the end, as the Austria-Hungary path is literally the same as with Hungary but a little worse on all aspects... I did expect a lot more from Austria though...
Austria was the frst country I played with the new DLC. I stayed fascist and pretty much did what you said, peacfully annexing and taking Yugoslavia and Romania by force. I didn't get the Poland bug & was able to get their provences. Had to give up Sudetenland cuz I was in no position to fight Germany. Tried defending Poland when they invaded, but that didn't work out and had to reload and abandon Poland. I waited til Germany was overextended into the Soviet Union then declared war on them. As soon I got Sudetenland back I finally was able to become the Austria Hungarian Empire, which helped a lot cuz I didn't get Italy on my side and had to fight them too. I only had 25% war score but it was enough to get all of Germany and take the focus to core them. I wasn't ready to fight the Soviet Union til almost 1945. At that point it just felt like I was a much weaker Germany, having taken so long just to get all of central Europe. At least the allies sat out my war against Russia. I ended the run after defeating the Soviet Union and becoming the Großösterreich. I was burnt out and didn't even feel like taking on the allies because, again, it just felt like I was playing as a much inferior Germany. I look forward to seeing how you play Austria, since I know you'll do better than I did!
@@UnarmedPug it all pretty much makes sense. Following that path would end up being exactly like my run with Hungary, so I'll probably explore more the Danube one. But I haven't really decided yet!
@@MachiavellianStrategist Yeah I remember I asked if you were going to do Austria and you said you'd be doing Hungary first, so I decided to try them on my own because I thought it would be really fun to do a reverse Anschluss. But boy was I wrong about that! It turned out to be a real slog. But like I said I know whatever way you go it'll be a lot more efficient and fun than what I did. 😀
16:10 yeah that's not only happeninng to me, but i had fun with Austria at all
@@danidoni1134 that path unfortunately feels a lot like a weaker version of the Hungarian one... Besides the bugs...
@@MachiavellianStrategist yeah... But if you watch at the full potential you can core Germany and form hre
@@danidoni1134 yeah but Hungary can form the European Union and core everything...
@@MachiavellianStrategist forgot it. true, so Hungary is better in anyway i pretty agree with that also other paths Hungary is more fun and stronger
@danidoni1134 yeah, this will be a tough one to make fun! But I will come up with something!

I find it fascinating how paradox could make the peace conference system worse than it was before this dlc.
@@Anonymous-bc4dl ill be honest, I started playing seriously with this dlc so I don't know exactly how it was before. Certainly it is not great now, but stealing navies is a game changer!
@@MachiavellianStrategistwasnt stealing navies man the guns
@roccocannope, MTG allows you to design ships, but to take them in the peace conference you need BBA!
I'm confused, did you justify on them or what?
@@GoldenFalconSC yeah you can do that easily if you refuse the non aggression pact!
The problem with demilitarized zones, is either your neighbours A) will never attack you or B) you will attack them, I can't tell a single time where after a peace conference, you should do a demilitarized zone to anyone, not neighbours, not puppets. Maybe its useful in non historical?
@@TamasCserhati no idea, I never once made one hahaha Puppets are the best demilitarized zones!
Really appreciate these bite sized videos. Seriously these have helped me gain confidence in my playthroughs way more than a 3 hr long guide
@@notjeff7833 really glad to hear that! These shorts are taken from my runs, but they still require a lot of extra work!
Great tut, I really look forward to the other vids. I found the module on Army Tactics and war very well done and provided the basic information I needed to understand that concept. Thanks very much.
@@puckernet8155 that's great to hear! Let me know if you have any questions!
I love self propelled artillery and other tank variants lets you customise so much of your division to your liking
@Bobsempletonk yep, the tank designer is probably the best feature in hoi4!
Extra clicks got me ngl As far as MIOs go, I think that the tank and airplane MIOs are the most useful. Other ones are good for production buffs too. Also did you notice there are now helicopter MIOs? Keep up the great work man
Thank you! MIOs are good in terms of buffs, but that will never make up for how tedious they are to pick every single time...
Just a quick ? , What guide of yours would you recommend for beginners? Also, you state here in the beginning that you have an "...initial setup for Germany guide..." Do you have a link to that. Thanks for all the great work you do. :)

could u do a video explaining if as germany its better to puppet countries or make them reichcomisariates? i feel like countries like USA would be better as pupets but for some reason they wont really send a lot of troops to help u in wars in europe asia or africa, they are only good in america
@@ALexalex-ss4sb puppeting is always better. But Reichskommissariats can be made while still at war, while puppets are only available after the peace conference.
The change is imo bad for playing minor nations since you can’t defeat uk before usa joins allies which is extremely annoying with all those unlimited ai naval invasion spam. It was possible tho before dlc.
@@lelllell2921 it is still possible to defeat the UK as minors. I did it as Hungary and Mexico after the dlc. It is much more difficult, that is for sure. But that's the whole point, otherwise every run was virtually over in 1940, we were missing on 5 years of content.
@ yes i know, with hungary and austria in the new dlc, you can afford mils really quick, so you get cas and fighters or even some tanks, but with some nations like turkey its really hard to get enough airforce fast enough.
@ I mean before the update, only 2 full armies (48 divisions) were enough to invade uk, but now you must either have enough airforce or tanks to push after taking a port.
@@lelllell2921 you can get naval superiority much faster than air superiority. As I showed in the video, you sometimes get it when with just one sub!
@@MachiavellianStrategist no, thats not what i meant. Starting a naval invasion and taking a naval port is mostly not the problem. The main problem is that you need enough airforce or tanks to push because otherwise u can push max. 1-2 tiles.
Please tell me I'm not the only one who just never used marines and always used Fallschirmjäger on Wessex from pre-Götterdamrung to after.
@@mycatzen i also don't use marines!
@MachiavellianStrategist The Fallschirmjägers are just so much better than marines in my opinion. Don't have to make a crazy navy and waaaayyy cheaper. As well as the added bonus of transport supplying stuffs and bombarding them with cas until their org is nothing but a red bar to signify it WAS a thing that existed
The focus for me says annex Yugoslavia not check so this guide is useless
@@csparrow42 check what? What focus?
Thank you so much for this. I’ve been trying for the past week to invade the UK effectively. I used to be able to do it with limited success but recently couldn’t at all. This has given me some good ideas on how I could succeed. It doesn’t help that I’m still learning the game. Like division design only just clicked for me like a month ago.
@DUMB_PHAK you are welcome! Let me know how it goes!
@@MachiavellianStrategist I failed again. The British put tanks on all of the ports which makes it essentially impossible to land with Marines, Tanks, or Moterized.
@DUMB_PHAK it is very very important that you use the right divisions, which template were you using? Were they fully trained? Full supplies?
@ I usually design my marines to be somewhere between 25 width and 30 width with artillery. My medium tanks don’t have artillery instead they have trucks and they were also 30 width. The tanks landed with marines on one of the tiles but got instantly overran by British infantry. I almost landed but they just overran the tanks and held the port with a single light tank preventing the tanks and marines that did land from actually being able to do anything effectively.
@DUMB_PHAK You could try one of the designs I showed in the video, the one with medium tanks being the most effective!
I cannot win the UK invasion. It's too hard.

I beat the uk navy with food fighters and cas and navy bombers
@@Waltuh-methlord the UK needs more food fighters for sure! Save them from fish and chips!
I think your tier list is perfectly fine I like the International Market as it's an easy way to get guns as a small country (losing your only civilian factory to get guns is more efficient than your only military factory) But apart from that and some niche cases, not much to it Selling stuff does give a construction bonus, but that's not really going to do much for you, beyond making things a little quicker (unless you're a small nation with lots of stuff to sell) As for MIO, they kinda suck, a designer like the Tank, Plane, or Ship ones would be far better than the current one Instead of choosing engine or gun modules, you chose modifiers like +2% defense or -5% production cost that you can stack in any way Whether that's -25% prodcution cost, +10% defense, or a mix of both or something else Oh, and also the ability to save presets, not just for MIO, but for the other designers (I know saving at the start of the game works, but a custom presets button would still be nice)
@@glauberglousger956 a custom preset would be awesome and u actually talked to the developers about it. Unfortunately they said that coding limitations (the original code of the game being quite old) make it pretty difficult to change this part of the game.
what is MOT division template, maybe you show us but, as i remember i didnt saw that. please if you see this replay it, or if someone saw that in video. Thanks <333
@@Guarantify hi, it is just the default motorized template of Germany!
@@MachiavellianStrategist oh thanks btw, i tried it and man i took usa like 4 times cuz they returned their teritorries but that is broken dude. allies lost war like 4 times in one game. Thank you for doing that also keep it up. i would like to see other countries guide.
@Guarantify fantastic job! You should check out my latest country guides! The one with Mexico was a lot of fun! More content will be coming soon of course!
I like the DLC for the country focuses a lot The Special Projects are nice, and can be extremely fun at times, but at most you usually only get a few, and a lot of them are extremely late game due to taking so long Extending the HOI4 dates from 1936-1945 to somewhere in the cold war could be nice, but unreleastic Something that I think would make Special Projects much better is the ability to que them (like MIO), say to the designers, "I want the Landcruiser to have more reliability and armor" so those options get chosen, or something That and some special projects being way too long for their bonuses, like Stronghold Networks (which should give more to match the time it takes) Personally I love Underway replenishment, you can realy mess with the game, all of the projects are fun if you cheat them in at the start of the game, there's just a few things that bring them down Raids can be useful, but really, stopping the Soviet Union from having resources is nice, but time consuming and something you really don't need, unless you absolutely need help, it's quite nice in multi-player as you and your allies can just decimate the resorce extraction of your enemy But there's not much else to the DLC
@@glauberglousger956 yes, you gave a pretty accurate description of the dlc, I agree!
Goetterdammerung is very disappointing in terms of features. The raids and wonderweapons are very tedious, add a bunch of more micromanagement, for no actual value. I really appreciate that the AI no longer spams nukes and you are actually able to defend yourself, but overall there is no special project or raid that is worth the effort in SP. (Except for Flametanks of course)
@@Frontline_view_kaiser sadly, I mostly agree with you... I was really positively impressed at first, but most of the new stuff is more trouble and annoyance than anything else. I do like the new focus trees though!
@@MachiavellianStrategistnot worth imo, focus trees are decent but really this is just trail of allegiance level focus trees but in a better area
@@MachiavellianStrategist I think the fleet submarines are absolutely worth it, they can single handedly win wars against the allies! Also when you do get Nuclear missiles, they are so much fun! The super heavy artillery is also very good. I'm really enjoying the special projects! I would rate this DLC as a must have!
@@jeremyglass4283 I think the amount of new content is what saves this dlc. The issue is that most of the stuff is available only very late in the game and mostly impactful to majors.
@@doodooman4545 I see more potential in Götterdämmerung, but certainly it is not being fully used...
This detailed guide is really helpful to understand the mechanics of HOI IV. One question I have ATM is about production. When setting the naval production in the early game, you max out all the production dockyard slots. What's the purpose/result of this even tho none of the naval production is set to infinity? Again, thanks for a great guide.
@@puckernet8155 hi and thank you! It's just so that I can forget about the navy completely, without having to deal with free dockyards notifications. Not particularly important though. I always leave complete freedom in terms of the navy, as it is not key for our strategy!
I saw you answer this question about 10 months ago in a short but do you have any plans to make a naval ship guide in the near future. Obviously there is a lot of new content to cover with the new dlc. Understandable if it isn’t.
@@ampyypma yes! I will make the guide as part of the next series of designs and templates! Coming soon!
Personally I don't use collaboration governments much as the main countries they're useful for are the US and USSR (unless you want the country in a peace deal, or the extra compliance, which are both nice) The former as you'd need to push to the west, and the latter as you'd need to push through zones of no supply, if you can beat them to that point, you can keep going, it just takes longer, although if I do have the chance, I do get at least one (usually I'm using spies to reduce enemy entrenchment and such) I prefer the naval infiltration and coordinated strike as those can allow a guaranteed naval invasion, as you know when to put your navy out (when every enemy fleet or ship isn't there) so it doesn't get destroyed before you invade The only intel that I don't think is worth it is airforce, you get enough intel from putting a spy in the country, you know what's attacking you and how many Knowing what their design is is pointless as if you focus on building the best planes you can, you'll destroy everything (There's a niche strategy where you design each plane to specifically destroy a certain design of the enemy's planes, but that's too time consuming and doesn't offer much in return) Overall the DLC is nice, but really not needed unless you enjoy screwing the AI a lot (turns out civil wars are an easy way to cripple any country you're at war at... Unless it's one state like Luxembourg, but if you're losing to Luxembourg, then nothing will help you)
@@glauberglousger956 overall I agree, however most runs end with a war on either the USSR or the USA. And collabs can significantly speed up the process for them. It is not enough to justify an entire dlc probably...
The move towards the current vehicle system for tanks, planes, and ships was massively negative in my view and feels incongruous with the rest of hoi4. MTG started this trend, so I hate MTG.
@@professorquarter you mean the designers in general?
@MachiavellianStrategist Yeah. MTG was just the first to introduce that system.
@@professorquarter i personally like the plane and tank designers though. No step back is the most loved hoi4 dlc, mostly got that reason.
@MachiavellianStrategist Well, I was not a fan of those.
@professorquarter fair enough
I do not know why but for me the german civil war ( and germany in the game) is not easy to play. I know almost everybody says that germany is wo easy but i allways struggel with germany. The only way for is using a guide. For me the soviets are so easy but germany no. What am i doing wrong?
@DavidPutzer difficult to tell without additional info. With the Soviets you can focus only on your armies, completely ignoring navies and planes maybe?
I am ignoring the navy pretty much in every single Germany run Same with the planes. Sometimes i have the Feeling i am to slow because the civil war takes longer and longer.
@DavidPutzer the civil war is something you can practice since it is at the very start of the run. You can try different strategies and see what works best for you!
Complaince is the difference between not even reaching leningrad stalingrad or moscow to cap the USSR and going I'm 2 years into Siberia
@Minecrad. It is undeniably very useful against large opponents such as the US and the USSR!
lol mtg was very hated for downgrading the naval game actually
Was it? I think the main complaint was it price for the lack of content. But people seemed to enjoy the naval designer. Similarly to planes and tanks, player designed ships are much better than the AI ones...
BFB is good for historical gameplay but it's has one of the worst tree ever existed while TOA is good for people who play these countries cause South Africa is the least pacitipate region in WW2 that's make it not really fun to play specialy when you gonna go peacefull run(No offensive war) I recommended look what you like if you like NSB,BBA,AAT and GTM style(35 days focus) choose TOA but if you like MTG, style choose BFB
@@godso9267 I really enjoyed playing as Brazil in TOA!
@MachiavellianStrategist yeah I also enjoyed it
Yeah subscription is the most consumer friendly thing paradox has done. I hope they keep the prices for it realistic.
@@aksmex2576 indeed!
I always combine attack through sea with paratroopers in central england to slow their reinforcments. It's mess and a lot of micro but I think it's wortth it
@@crazyyy8436 if possible it can help, although getting both naval and air superiority is not always an option.
So I got the game and the DLC. (A few DLC anyway.) 1. The navy doesn't produce much as far as ships and subs. Is that by design per your strategy? 2. For some reason I can never get the War Economy Law above 50% for War Support. I'm pretty sure I followed your specific path so far. Any idea why I can't get above 50%? 3. "Range Improvements" for research; Is that from a specific DLC? I don't have that in the research tree that I have. Regardless this is well done. Thanks for your efforts.
@@puckernet8155 hi, and thank you! 1: the navy doesn't play a very important role in our strategy, it will give us the naval supremacy needed to invade the UK, and that's all we really need. 2: the lack of war support for war economy might be related to another dlc (man the guns) but you should still get it, just a bit later. It won't be a problem! 3: range improvements is for the air designer, and it requires the by blood alone dlc.
what paradox game you played beside hoi4?
@@keanezachary4516 Europa Universalis III and IV. Crusader Kings 2 and 3. And, but a lot less, Stellaris and Victoria.
Fair list. I would have stuck Arms against Tyranny as low as possible. It should have had better trees and the additions are a waste. Considering the dlc, a lot add things that have one function so you reqyire the mechanic. Spy agencies give colab govenments so its needes. Gottadamarung was ok cause the flame tanks and radar are base game
@@johnnicholas1657 you don't have to tell me twice about arms against tyranny haha! Some mio buffs are honestly quite strong though.
@MachiavellianStrategist it's like you say though. It's click heavy. I did the Germany run for the achievement for level 10 mios. It was torture by the end
What template do you use? I still find sealion difficult because sometimes the ports take forever to capture. By the time I have a port, units are already flooding me 😢
Hi, I'd recommend this video in which I share also all my favorite templates for the invasion: th-cam.com/video/-gKNknFzL6s/w-d-xo.htmlsi=hV3uAQ4MlX8MLWBu
@MachiavellianStrategist grazie!
How can I make a naval invasion to UK if I'm not part of the Axis. With only military access of Germany.
@@Eldesmentidordecreepypastas it might be possible to do so if you have docking rights, military access, and the Axis is at war with the UK. If you still can't, I don't think there is any way to do so through the Axis territories.
I was going to purchase this w the latest GOTT DLC, but your vid says it’s broken. Is getting the HOI 4 and the GOTT DLC a bad idea?
@@puckernet8155 Germany is broken in a good way! In the sense that it is very strong! I think getting Götterdämmerung is a good idea!
