There is a workaround of Poland, but assuming they join your faction instead of Allies, that is let Poland capitulate before you defeat Germany. That way Germany will create Generalgouverment on Poland. You can take these Polish states in the peace deal afterward as it is now technically owned by Generalgouverment. Another cheese, you can delay Sudetenland by signing Non-Aggression Pact with Germany just shortly after they cancelled Anschluss, however you need to let them put Mr Arthur in government, otherwise they will have a very negative modifier of NAP willingness.
Austria was the frst country I played with the new DLC. I stayed fascist and pretty much did what you said, peacfully annexing and taking Yugoslavia and Romania by force. I didn't get the Poland bug & was able to get their provences. Had to give up Sudetenland cuz I was in no position to fight Germany. Tried defending Poland when they invaded, but that didn't work out and had to reload and abandon Poland. I waited til Germany was overextended into the Soviet Union then declared war on them. As soon I got Sudetenland back I finally was able to become the Austria Hungarian Empire, which helped a lot cuz I didn't get Italy on my side and had to fight them too. I only had 25% war score but it was enough to get all of Germany and take the focus to core them. I wasn't ready to fight the Soviet Union til almost 1945. At that point it just felt like I was a much weaker Germany, having taken so long just to get all of central Europe. At least the allies sat out my war against Russia. I ended the run after defeating the Soviet Union and becoming the Großösterreich. I was burnt out and didn't even feel like taking on the allies because, again, it just felt like I was playing as a much inferior Germany. I look forward to seeing how you play Austria, since I know you'll do better than I did!
@@UnarmedPug it all pretty much makes sense. Following that path would end up being exactly like my run with Hungary, so I'll probably explore more the Danube one. But I haven't really decided yet!
@@MachiavellianStrategist Yeah I remember I asked if you were going to do Austria and you said you'd be doing Hungary first, so I decided to try them on my own because I thought it would be really fun to do a reverse Anschluss. But boy was I wrong about that! It turned out to be a real slog. But like I said I know whatever way you go it'll be a lot more efficient and fun than what I did. 😀
I don't know when the bug of Poland not giving anything started, but it wasn't there when the DLC first released From the focus paths you showed, I'd rank them from best to worst by 1. Austria Hungary, generally nice as there's not too much RNG, and you can easily form it and become powerful The main downsides are being in between two angry factions which can cause some weird stuff to happen with the AI Germany as it cannot invade the Soviet Union Sometimes plans not going well due to randomness, guarantees, or whatever (It's also repetitive technically, although I'd still recommend doing both Hungary and Austria's Austria Hungary paths) 2. European Federation/Union as the European President It's fun and short, you can easily take down Germany after creating a big faction, then play as a support nation similar to New Zealand or Canada and take down the Soviet Union afterwards with your faction, and your playthrough is done by around 1942 at most (you'd also have one or two countries integrated by now) Downsides are that it can be really short if you don't do anything after Germany capitulates You don't really expand much, and can't get too much war participation or large scale battles as a supporting country You rely mostly on the AI, and some extra RNG, although it can be reduced by improving relations, and a few other things 3. Communist Austria, the best way to play it is similarly to Tannu Tuva, where you just rely on the Soviets to destroy a nation you declare war on by joining the Commintern, while you take as much land to get as much war score as possible and slowly expand while creating horrible borders Downsides are that's about it, there's really nothing else to do There are also a few alternative choices such as puppeting instead of annexing as Austria Hungary, but those are generally worse than the three stated above (Such as your puppets giving away land or being declared on, or being the lone communist nation in Central Europe, surronded by Fascist Major Powers...)
@@glauberglousger956 I 100% agree! It will probably be EU Austria in the end, as the Austria-Hungary path is literally the same as with Hungary but a little worse on all aspects... I did expect a lot more from Austria though...
For the 3 choices of Austria-Hungary 1.Vaterlandische Front (fascist "historical") Pros - Since you are fascist right after 2 focuses down, you can go War Economy and Extensive Conscription very early - War goals on Yugoslavia and Romania quite early - You can sign NAP with Hungary for free - Very nice advisors and not-so-hidden alternate leader that gives more defense, so much you can get away safely picking the offensive marshal. - For the most part Italy will ignore you - Quickly get rid of The Treaty Cons - Kind of tight on PP - Quite a long way down to get your fifth research slot - Can't invite Romania to your faction until manually later, this means Bulgaria and Turkey cannot send help to you other than lend-lease until you deal with either Romania or Yugoslavia. - If you take the Italy guarantee, Italy can and WILL try to take stuff in the peace deal, making your Greater Austria dream harder. Poland too, but they usually can't do much. 2. Otto Left Pros - Puppet Poland, Romania, and Yugoslavia, a lot of free army for you. Overwhelm Germany with your puppet army - If you form Central Powers, Turkey and Bulgaria can send help to you - Unique buffs shared with your puppets that they can complete for you - Decent PP gain Cons - Can't modify puppet templates - Puppets can gain autonomy quickly if you overuse them - Italy will come for you if you take Albania - Also can't got War Economy and Extensive Conscription early, but this is less important than the other path as you use puppet army - Croatia will spawn - RNG RNG RNG, the other paths too but this one is the worst 3. Otto Right Pros - Lots of PP gain, you can core Germany quickly - Research speed bonus, and can get the final slot quickly. Cons - You can't get Extensive Conscription and War Economy early, this one can be quite bad as chances are your army will not be in full strength when the war starts - If you don't deal with Yugoslavia and Romania early, there is no path for Turkey and Bulgaria to send help unless you get Italy in your faction - Chances are Romania will turn on you, though not necessary a bad thing as Bulgaria and Turkey will kill them for you assuming you managed to get both in your faction So I think path 2 is technically the easiest one but also the most confusing and RNG heavy. Path 1 is not so difficult assuming you know what you are doing and much less confusing.
@@rps215 i think the best path is the fascist one, it has the highest potential. But it also feels very underwhelming compared to Hungary, which can do the same but better in almost all aspects. The Danubian federation path is interesting and a bit different from the usual! I will probably cover both in upcoming guides!

Yeah, for me i think non historical is the best way to get the most out of austria hungary. You arent as rushed with time is germany goes civil war, and allows you to go liechtenstein HRE if the allies go ahistorical
The poland bug annoyed me a lot while playing. Also the democratic eu path is shit. Even though the choice of joining or subjugation is high, the countries still reject. We don't even get some pp refund. Also the joint focus trees is a waste of time. None of the countries except albania use the joint focus tree
@@gocool_2.0 czechoslovakia was the only one to use it in my run. Very underwhelming... But probably the most interesting path for something a bit different. Because the Austria-Hungary one is literally the same as in the run with Hungary (a bit worse).
