Is Alex Ovechkin's record chase in jeopardy?
Go figure... a Philly lifer sabotages their in-state rivals. Wasn't Hextall also the only Flyers goalie to commit an in-game assault & battery vs. the Pens? Why take the job of a franchise you despise? To tank it of course, the correct answer is to tank it!
Ovechkin: 7 goals in his first 11 games this season. 8 goals in his first 43 games last season. He also has 30 goals scored in his last 47 games which is a 52 goal pace over 82 games.
Keep doing this and some network will hire you to be a sportscaster
Vancouverites: alternate take here. Benning was the only possible way Canucks were ever going to rebuild. Think about it. I guess I forgot or didn’t notice how involved Trevor seems to be in the Benning era based on the clips anyway
Dorion has had some terrible misses, but I think the team is in a very optimistic spot. We'll see how this comment ages after the season - lol. The core is locked up. Zub was an amazing pick-up and is our best stay at home D right now. Batherson is a 25+ goal scorer just under 5 million for another two years after this season. A lot of people weren't sure about Sanderson at #5, and he's our best offensive defenseman already. Pinto and Greig are solid depth forwards, and the blueline has young guys like Kleven who are now NHL ready. Hell, a lot of folks were saying Ottawa should draft Zadina over Tkachuk (on draft day, not in hindsight) and obviously that would have been a disaster. For me, the goaltending management has been his garbage under his watch, but when you look at how exciting this team is, a lot of it was done under D's watch. We'll see how things pan out.
All this nonsensical movement from the ownership group to management to the high turnover in players with the exception of the core and the head coach is all been engineered to make the Penguins non competitive after their tearing the late 2000s to 2010s. These have been deliberate moves to include what we have currently. Pens Aetna is supposed to be competitive as the league wants to usher out the Crosby era in favor of the young players of today. Just like any other sports league, this crap is scripted. My opinion.
Hextall somehow managed to do a decade's worth of damage in just two years. That's impressive by any standard.
@@joes878 agreed.
At the time I wanted the sens to keep Stone through the rebuild and make his the captain. I thought that he was still young enough that he’d be effective after the rebuild while being a mentor for the young guys. Looking back too I feel like this would’ve been the best move.
Imagine Melnyk didn’t stop the Hall-Ceci trade. Their chance of a cup in 2018 would’ve been a lot more realistic.
Became GM because someone died, got fired because someone died
Any real Pens fan knew day one that was gonna be a shitshow. 2024 is gonna be a good year boys and girls. LGP
@@OIFIIIOIF-VET I am skeptical, but i hope you’re right. Id take a wildcard playoff appearance in a heartbeat. Time will tell.
idk why people dont talk bout this more by oiler F up by not drafting debrincat it obv easy say that now rather then back then but idk how u scout Mcdavid for a whole year see and not see this Debrincat kid ripping it on the same line as Mcdavid sure he small but u had to scout Mcdavid sure it no brainer but u dont see Debrincat and mcdavid ripping up together in juniors
Always a hindsight thing. I see your point for sure.
Eberle couldnt one time a puck to save his life near the end here whiffed on everything
I remember that !
Rienhart was a waste of skin.
@@sanpotkins4705 Feel for him as a person. No doubt a massive challenge to establish consistency in the NHL. But there were red flags before the trade which were seemingly ignored. A bad move.
Moving Broberg was super stupid
There's no way that the Oilers should have matched Broberg!! A 10 game or so playoff doesn't make the still unproven Broberg worth $4.5 mil/per !
@@SirManfly agree its a bit egregious. Oilers had to let him go, but maybe misplayed their hand in making so many signings. Ongoing trend in the NHL is to pay these young players early. Lock them up with the hope of development transforming the contract into a “steal”. Maybe the Oilers committed their money to the right players? Maybe not. Maybe Broberg emerges as a legit top 4 and that stirs regret? Maybe not. Time will tell!
He had the right idea with Larsson. He's been a solid defensive RD, actually just what the Oilers could use right now. If he had extended with the team it would be considered a win.
And i know lucic didnt turn out good but at the time it was larson and lucic for hall and no one could of predicted the lucic downfall you make that trade still
@@maxrates Right idea, I agree. Chiarelli had hoped he could turn into a steady #2 and I think he’s managed that. Larsson has munched big minutes in Seattle over the past few seasons. Will be interesting to see how/if the addition of Montour and emergence of Borgen impact how Larsson is utilized. Admittedly, I don’t watch enough Kraken hockey. Regardless, the problem in Edmonton was a lack of defensive depth and talent. Disorganized systems as well.
@@kurtisheidt2249 Lucic deal was a risk. I think everyone knew it was going to bite them. But as I said in the video, it definitely happened FASTER than I expected. The contract Hall was locked-up on was also fantastic. So by comparison, I think it was an automatic downgrade.
The way the scotty bowman era has started you might have another one of these to make for the oilers😂
Scotty? 🤭 But I hope not !! 😳
Trading Eberle at his all time low value is debatably Chiarelli’s worst move with the oilers
The funniest/most bizarre thing about that deal, is the parallels it screams to trading Tyler Seguin. Both players struggled through playoff performances. Sure, there were more red flags with Seguin…. But that experience wasn’t a learning point?
@@WhatsHappeningHockey I always thought that Chia was way too casual in trading top end talent ! Being a little more patient with guys like Seguin, Hall and Eberle instead of bouncing them out the door so quickly would have been good for both franchises !
CHiarelli was very good with drafting. His downfall was obvously trading and contracts.
Ya despite trading a 1st and 2nd for Griffin Reinhart, the Oilers did very well at the 2015 draft taking 4 d-men out of 6 picks and seeing 3 of them become NHL players! He seemed to be the only GM at the time that recognized that the Oilers needed to draft d-men because the Old Boys Club management didn't seem to know this !
Shame they couldn’t get more out of those selections. Bear and Jones are obviously more on the 5th to depth-dmen type of players… But I absolutely adore Marino. Loved him in Pitt and still ridicule the Hextall decision to ship him away.
such a bad time to be an oilers fan thru those 2 playoff misses after making playoffs in 2016-2017 we are in such a better spot now but every oiler fan should thank god peter chiarelli is gone
Eberle for Strome - Strome for Spooner - Spooner on waivers = Eberle for nothing
@@GLrebirth pretty pitiful
And remeber, Ebs was our condolence prize for Pronger not wanting to play here. Makes it even worse.
Oh yeah and dont forget, they basically passed up Matt Barzal for Reinhart, and then when Ebs and Barzal linked up in the isle, they had amazing chemistry
@@kodyskwarchuk7421 what could’ve been
Made me so angry when I saw Ebs and Barzal lighting it up on long island, but the islander’s mismanaged and didnt protect Eberle in the expansion draft and the Kraken got him.
Gainey destroyed Montreal by riding itself of all offence and built a pop gun defence team. Price was Gainey's obsession & constantly overlooked the fact that Price was a hot and cold goaltender. Mostly cold and Price would be responsible for the longest losing streaks in team history. MB was hired by Gainey to continue inept management and refuse to get rid of Montreal's real problem. Building a team around Ptice and not offence. Price should have been traded when he had value in the NHL before he would be referred by sports writers as regular season Price. Montreal should have began it's rebuild by getting rid of Price before he would get a ridiculous contract comparable to McDavid, Crosby, Ovie and other offence stars that sold tickets. Had Montreal kept Halak after the playoffs of 2010 and shipped off Price, they could have rebuilt the team even sooner and never having to experience being the worst team in the NHL. Houle, Gainey & MB the 3 most incompetent GM's ever in the NHL. Bad management will destroy any organization and MTL fans had to live through it. When Sam Pollack retired & the Molson family replaced him, not with the obvious choice of Scotty Bowman but with an unindicted criminal (at that point) who was a dirty crooked Montreal city politican who was later arrested....all because the Molson's wanted to grease the wheels of their real estate business at the expense of the hockey team.
I had a hard time paying attention because of all the Radiohead songs lmao - Everything In Its Right Place - 15 Step - Reckoner - All I Need - House of Cards

@@WhatsHappeningHockey Nah don’t worry, I had no problem paying attention. I just love the band so much that it was cool recognizing the songs (In Rainbows is a god tier album)
@@beanbag2541 recently revisited their stuff for the first time in 2-3 years. In Rainbows remains my favourite, but Hail to the Thief has become a close second.
Its not like their current management is much better. Managing to waste the prime years of their best player ever, refusing to change any of the core pieces year after year

I personally disagree with calling any picks from 2021 (from any team) a whiff this early. Zack Ostapchuk actually looks like he’ll be a good top 9 forward, but I do agree that Tyler Boucher would have been better picked later on.
@@PapaJu1ce hence the “might be too early to tell”.
@@WhatsHappeningHockeyJust reacting to the initial statement man, obviously if the “it might be too early to tell” nullified your point then you wouldn’t make it at all. No hate here just thought it was an interesting talking point. Boucher is looking like the biggest bust we’ve had but ostapchuk is pleasantly projecting to be a middle 6 utility forward.
@@PapaJu1ce no intention to evoke butt hurt feelings, brother. When writing these videos, it’s just a matter of: “holy shit there’s a lot to cover”. Especially with these montage segments, we try to include some kind of impression. Was it a good roster transaction? Was it a bad one? Hard to dive into specific details on EVERYTHING, you know? Ostapchuk could very well develop into what you’re projecting. No slight against him. But even if he does, that draft is still a bit of a blemish.
I think it’s underappreciated how much the Leafs bad defense hurt their goaltenders’ numbers. Each and every goalie, pretty much without fail, who came to or left the Leafs, had better numbers immediately before and after playing for the Leafs. It just happened too often to be a coincidence, and the most dramatic of those happened when the goalies went to or came from strong defensive teams.
I remember the 07 Sens.
As a sens fan im still way too far in the fuck this guy i never want to hear his name again to bother evaluating him beyond looking at the sens record under him and letting that stand as his legacy of dismantling a team that was in Game 7 of the ECF before him. Im so glad this fucking loser will never get a job in hockey again
7:03 JBD is definitely a notable pickup from the 2018 Draft
2017 and 2018. See Benning facial expression at the draft podium. He didn't want to draft Petey or Hughes. Not one smile then and what circulated was that Linden argued with him about drafting Petey. He says differently now that he is not the GM. Benning was a bad GM and the only highlight was trading for JT. Everyone else forced him to pick the core guys now.
Keep it up and some day you guys could be as bad as my Leafs.
Its also been said that he wore underwear or shorts when showering amongst the team. Weirdo.
Fermentin?🤣
Do one on Ken Holland during his time at Detroit.
@@swen1208 it will definitely come. A monster of a video. But in time! Thanks for watching.
Although Dorion made officially made all the moves, I truly think Eugene Melnyk was pulling all the strings and Dorion was just his puppet. Too many owners in the league thinking they know better and end up with some flaming hot garbage for years to come after a disappointing playoff run
3:15 Mike disappears in the playoffs. No big loss after all.
0.61 PPGav in the post season. No doubt a one dimensional player. But “disappears” isnt quite fair.
At the time Chabot was worth 8 ms
As a resident of Ottawa (I'm a Leafs fan though), I fully believe that Melnyk still made all the decisions when he was alive and people like Dorion and the multiple head coaches they had were the ones who just took bullets for him.
the mark stone trade andthe derek brassard trade are by far the worst trades i've seen ottawa ever make
@@ry4nx the return on stone was pitiful
@@WhatsHappeningHockey What makes it even more pitiful is the contrast with the Karlsson return. Everyone knew they wanted to trade Karlsson, he'd been shopped around for months and supposedly deals to L.A. and/or Vegas fell through, while Stone wanted to stay and was younger - yet Dorion got a significantly better return for Karlsson. A real headscratcher.
I was a Dorion fan. I'm thrilled hes gone now. I didnt realize how bad he really was until new ownership came in
Watching this video I can't help but thinking about that Simply Red song
Finally a video that perfectly portrays why I can't sleep at night
Dorion was trading picks thinking the team was ready to start winning. Many fans agreed. Just a massive lesson learned
Dorion is a very good amateur scout, that is about it.
An era Sens fans are glad they’re over! In Steady Steve Staios Michael Andlauer we trust!
Kessel trade was extremely short sighted and it cost the team
Dorion knew his job was in jeopardy after Melnyk passed away. He just started swinging for the fences and went for all the big flashy names instead of building a proper team
tbh I liked ADB trade quite a lot although I was against Chychrun from the day the rumour started. I thought ADB actually could fit 18 and 28 quite well but it just didnt work out bc of incompetent coaching.
