Gustav Forsling is very underrated, he isn't flashy and doesn't have bloated scoring numbers. Just plays lights out Defense and is rarely out of position due to his hockey IQ and insane skating ability. And he can score if needed. He finished this season with +/- of +56!
He is underrated. Barkov is not mentioned with the best players in the game, when he should be. He leads the league in plus/minus for a reason. Being the best two-way player in the league, unfortunately, doesn't get much fanfare. He anchors the 6th best power play unit and the 6th best penalty kill unit in the NHL. Name the other top centers that do that and have that much impact.
Barkov is Datsyuk/Bergeron type of player whose positive impact on ice is much bigger than just points. Barkov's offence is as good or better than those two. Datsyuk was in his best seasons in discussion "Who is the best player Crosby or Datsyuk?" and I'm sure Bergeron got his flowers too compared to Barkov. I think players see him being underrated because there's difference labeling player as very good (media/fans) vs one of the best players in the world which players see in him.
Yup. I don't know why that's so hard for this guy to understand. Players are obviously telling the masses that he should be considered (one of, if not) the best player in the league.
Most players on this list, from a fans perspective, are “over-shadowed” not so much underrated so I definitely agree. One player this season that’s underrated is Frank Vatrano. On pace for a career year and is playing for a below average team in Anaheim
I think players consistently choose Barkov as “underrated” because they find him the hardest to play against that they get the least warning about. Or the least credit for shutting down. LOL. They have a very hard time winning face offs against him, getting him off the puck, moving him or out skating him. So to the nhl players, when you ask who’s underrated they are going to name the guy that’s always just “there” that they weren’t warned enough about. I imagine they’re just being told to “watch out” for him with no real advice about what to Do About Sasha.
