Pretty rare for a 9 year GM with only 2 first round wins to be able to leave a job under their own power but that just shows how low the bar has been in Calgary
Not in the case of teams who start in rebuild, and especially since the moves during and immediately after that rebuild phase were mostly good (or at least understandable at the time).
@@shinukara9899 Trading away a first and two seconds in your second season is not what a typical "rebuilding" team would do. While the Hamilton trade was a good trade, I think it summarizes their impatience to truly stick through a rebuild as they bought into the hype of the 2015 season. I think the repercussions of that are years of inconsistent play fueled by management who overrated the players they had at their disposal. Therefore, I don't think he should be judged by the merit of being a GM who led his team through a rebuild. He made it pretty clear early on that his intention was to win as soon as possible, and he should be judged on his overall failure to win.

It was pretty overwhelming after awhile, and it didnt help that my dice let me down often enough that I never did make the playoffs :\ I left after 6 or so seasons, just burned out completely
Why the hell did they take Mason McDonald over Thatcher Demko in the second round? Demko was the number one ranked goalie in that draft and for good reason.
Treliving's major problem was he couldn't accurately evaluate the team. It led to all sorts of the problems he caused. Dealing draft picks like candy was a huge mistake for starters. But the one deal for picks I hated more than the others was the deal for Travis Hamonic. Despite Burke being burned in the Kessel deal, those two clowns didn't have the collective brain-power to to-10 protect the first rounder in that deal that ended up being Noah Dobson. Sh!t show.
Burke is overrated. Treliving probably is too, but of course Toronto is reactionary and fickle. Toronto will never get to the cup final. And I am a fan, so it hurts saying that.

I’m sure it factored in to some extent, but maybe that’s a natural given. The perplexing bit is finally paying the big bucks: acquiring Huberdeau.
