    I found this video after spending hours and hours trying to set up something similar with inputs for every single seed variety I have, only to realize that I can only get Notion to populate one calendar entry per item in my catalogue… so any seeds like lettuce that I want to start indoors and then succession direct sow every 3 weeks following… it’s a no go. Tempted to see if your process solves this problem and a couple others I have (like wanting an inventory and customization for unique varieties… AKA I might plant different sorts of lettuces or carrots differently) but nervous!

      @ okay awesome! My biggest wish is for a system that I can input custom dates for starting indoors, direct sowing at intervals, transplanting out, hardening off, and additional sowing dates for a fall/winter planning when appropriate… and unique to variety. I want it to all populate onto a calendar so it’s all in one place unique to each variety I select to grow that season. Although I’m starting to think no digital system will do that for me the way I envision it.

    This is exactly how I've felt. They said it would start to make sense around the third season but I'm now entering my 6th and I guess I'm a slow learner, mostly because I've tried to pack too many crops into too large of a space! But at least I now know quite a bit more than if I had taken the more conservative approach. Thanks for a great video which is encouraging as I plan my garden for 2025. I'm now looking at each crop and simplifying everything for hopefully a more productive season.

    Thank you for this amazing resource. I've just migrated my previous Notion template data to use yours. I'm trying to understand how the succession works in your template. I like the automation, but in my case I might want to see how it works with plants I may not grow continuously. For example I grow lettuce in Spring, take a break over summer, then again in the Fall. I thought about changing the "Season" variables but want to know how that would affect the automation? SO like if I selected only spring and fall would the succession skip summer? I'm really trying to lean on the automations because I grow over 100 crops and it can get really complicated fast!

    • @makinggardenmagic
      @makinggardenmagic 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      That’s a good question! I have the formula set up to reset the date three weeks in the future from whenever the “sown” box is checked - it records the date and the does the automation :) so one option could be to temporarily uncheck the “growing” box in the plant database after your last succession in spring and then recheck it for fall to start the process up again, and once you check the sown date again it will start the automation up again. You could also set up separate spring and fall lettuces and filter by season in the succession sowing box, so it doesn’t show any spring/fall crops during summer. The seasons property is only used for organization so you can adjust it as needed!

    Why can’t you reuse lids? Everyone says you shouldn’t but no one says why.

    • @makinggardenmagic
      @makinggardenmagic หลายเดือนก่อน

      The rubbery compound on the lids will have a big indent in it after being used once, and there are slight variations in where the lid sits on the glass each time you place it. So if it’s slightly off from that previous indent, it will increase the likelihood of the seal failing and ruining all your hard work :) that compound can also become brittle over time and lead to the same issues. There are companies that make reusable lids and of course anyone is free to reuse lids and just accept the risks :) thank you for the comment!

    • @makinggardenmagic
      @makinggardenmagic หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes! That’s recommended to prevent a false seal or jar explosion, very rare but if the ring is screwed on tight and pressure happens to build up in the jar due to contamination, it makes the jar more likely to break. You can also store them with the rings on loosely if you prefer that look!

    Using Weck jars with a pressure cooker should use three clamps and a slow upcoming of the heat. I’m doing it for a while now and haven’t any problems with this. I’m still using the waterbath method as well, it just asks for a longer time of cooking and than it’s as safe as any method. We’re using weck for 124 years now in germany and it’s safe. The Weck bible, the Weck cook book is available in English also, not too expensive and a good guide for beginners.
