Horses don’t speak English. Their whole world revolves around having each other, they’re a bonded pair. Let them go in peace and comfort with the greatest gift of love and selflessness, the last act of kindness. I’m glad your organization was there to offer help and kind support.

What a wonderful way for these young people to learn skills and be a part of such a positive program. Then you incorporate the seasoned but less agile elderly who are stuffed full of experiences over years of horses and managing their stabling and care, and round it out with the younger ambitious people and everybody wins. Marvelous.

Paulie is so good at working with nervous horses but it is a waste of his time to bring him horses who are not trained in picking up their feet. It’s dangerous as well and I worry someone is going to get hurt.

For those complaining about how the handlers are dealing with the fractious horses, here are some numbers for you to digest. On average, 65,500 people annually are injured by or while riding horses badly enough to be admitted to the emergency department. Most are while riding, but 6% are when not riding. That means almost 4000 people are injured badly enough by horses to be admitted to the ER. Also 81% of people that have / ride horses report being injured by a horse. The real kicker - on average 710 people die in horse related accidents annually. Most from falling while riding (my friend Karen was one of these) but not all. I couldn’t find a number on how many fatalities were not related to falling but overall injuries were just over 80% from falling. So if we extrapolate from there (which introduces some potential error into this estimate) 20% not from falling means roughly 142 people die annually from non-riding horses badly enough related injuries. So before you judge how experienced horse people are handling very fractious, very large, potentially very dangerous animals, maybe you should take these numbers into consideration. These people do an excellent job of gentling and training these horses as quickly as they can. They are as gentle as they can be under this situation when the horses have not yet had much, if any, training before they get to the rescue. They are not hurting the horses, only trying to give them feedback that will hopefully prevent anyone - human or horse - from getting injured.

Kill buyers can not send blind horses to slaughter, they can’t be in the trucks. Found that out with Horse Plus Society when they got the big white draft horse from the Auction, it was in the truck and had to be taken off.

My old farrier taught me a trick for horses that won't stand still for hoof work. It's kinda similar to what your farrier was doing with the rope but instead of a person trying to hold the rope the horse holds the rope. You need a longer rope and you run the rope up and over the back of the horse and back down between the front legs and up to the halter so that when he/she tries to put their foot down they pull their own nose down. It's kinda hard to explain but if you see it done it makes better sense...

I don't understand have the old owners can let them get this bad they knew that you would come and get them I know it's hard to take care of an animal and do what they need all the time but if you know you can't do it please send them to a rescue like this they'll come and get them they'll take good care of them they'll give them their needs they say they take any kind of horse pony donkey you name it they'll take it you guys do so much for these animals and they are so beautiful my heart goes out to you and all the animals that you take in because you guys are a blessing to them and no matter if they have 5 months to live for 20 years to live at least they have someone that cares for them and their time they have left I wish I was around there and I could volunteer and help and I would
