Spice Island (Grenada of the Caribbean)
มุมมอง 1352 ปีที่แล้ว
“There is so much we don’t know”. A quote from our accommodating host shared with me while eating his curry chicken with a side of red wine from Mendoza. This repeated phrase sums up my experience of living in, yet again, another country. There are similarities between Madagascar, Thailand, Argentina, and Grenada, for example I’ve found garlic in each of their markets regardless of how remote. ...

Grenada, New Place to Call Home “Hello to all friends and family,” Trent typed dubiously into the description box. He liked food, loved food, he adored food, and food had become important in his life. Graduating with an MBA in accounting in October 2021 and receiving a proper job opportunity, only confirmed this notion. Many his age were making similar decisions, rash as they were, which both c...

Spicy Coconut Beef Stew My grandmother has a neighbor that I’ve known all my life. When I was younger, and even when I grew older, I would go up to their fence in hopes of receiving fresh vegetables. This neighbor, Dorothy, ended up moving to Thailand in retirement to provide service to those in need. When I turned 18, I saved up by working at fast-food joint and went to Thailand. • @christinelarocco2330
    @christinelarocco2330 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Those monkeys do NOT belong here in our environment. That is a serious problem. They are nicknamed "tree rats" in asian countries for good reason. You all better start paying a little more attention. Our natural environment down there is fragile. They need to f'ing go. AND FAST.

    • @theswashbuckjournal3924
      @theswashbuckjournal3924 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Christine, thanks for watching and for bringing that up. The macaques aren’t indigenous and over the decades different proposals have been brought up to remove them. There used to be a couple more populations in Florida but the troop at silver springs is the only remaining wild population. A 2016 study from Biological Invasions placed 100 artificial birds nests through silver springs and found that 21 of them were predated by the macaques. Of course the macaques are also carriers of herpes B and an estimated 10% of the troop shed it in their saliva during fall breeding season which can be lethal to humans if they get bit and don’t receive medical intervention, so people are told to respect their distance (as they should with any other wildlife). When we researched the environmental challenges to Silver Springs by far the biggest impact has been from reduced water flow and poor water quality in the river due to tapping into the water reservoirs and Nitrogen pollution from fertilizer runoff in surrounding agriculture land.

Most of those places are unrecognizable to me today and I have no desire to go there. Hell, we used to be able to actually camp on New Smyrna beach, no tolls, no entry fees--miss those days. My best friend used to scuba dive many of the springs feeding the Suwannee and there would be moccasins attached to the bottom just hanging on to something with their mouth open. Generally in the actual river away from the spring heads. Kinda weird. Went to Silver Springs as a child and toured in the glass bottom boats. My main spring stomping grounds in my youth was Rock Springs and Wekiva Springs, Wekiva River and Econ River, well, besides the east coast beaches. Those springs aren't worth visiting today IMO.
