The flues need expansion joints around them. Wrap the flue tiles with cardboard or sill plate gasket when you pour the new concrete. Otherwise the flue tiles can crack the crown when they expanded.
Yes I’ve been dreaming all winter of going back to work. I feel like I put on a couple pounds that I need to work off. But took a nice well deserved vacation that’s helped out. I DON’T BELONG IN CHICAGO WEATHER!

I got this for 2500$. For me and a labor for for day & 1/2. 1st day to setup and point and pour. Then next day to wash and remove forms and clean. I think I’m still making a killing. And I try to be fair with my prices. I love to be out working so I price fair to stay busy
@@midwestbrickdoctor6670 all due respect that's extremely low, uncle Sam off the bat takes 25-30 percent of the check , now your down to 1800$, then count, gas for the job, set up, plus labor, plus material, that's $4,500 all day long especially with u having comment dence and seems experience. You did a great job and are worth the money. Bud higher.

Everyone has been saying that to me today. I’ll try it on my next cap. Everyone that I learned from growing up never showed me that.
Don’t forget to silicone or polyurethane caulk around the flue tile where the crown meets it or else it will leak.

Invest in the right scaffolding. Planks , rope and wheel with hoist, outriggers , chicken ladders .

Put some sill seal around the clay flues before pouring cement cap this will allow expansion to happen without cracking
Instead of hardy backer board, use a thin piece of slate with bonding agent on it for the cement to sit on works better old timer trick
