  • In today's video I cover a quick first ride review for a Yamaha Stryker that I got to ride in Tampa. I rented the bike on Riders Share and covered about 130 miles on it total that day so got a fairly decent overview of the bike, it was also 30+ degrees celsius that day so all the comfort stuff I covered is even more impressive imo.

    I do think after considering this afterwards I'd go for the Yamaha Raider. Bigger engine, more power and double discs for brakes as well.
    Also some of my friends are currently cycling to Lahinch from London to raise money for the Irish Cancer Society in memory of my friend Declan, who passed away in 2020 from Cancer at the age of 27, if you could donate to their endeavor it'd be greatly appreciated. The last day of the journey is today! Donate here: www.idonate.ie/fundraiser/11423482_london-to-lahinch-800km-charity-cycle.html

    The stryker is the best solo riding cruiser money can buy. The engine is happy when reved , gears are long & in the city i usually stay in 2nd 80% of the time. The 5th is like OD , I go into 5th @ 120km. The looks of the bike for the money PRICELESS

    • @TheGorillaBiker
      @TheGorillaBiker  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'll trust you as I haven't ridden many :D Yeah the engine is lovely, and I get the gearbox is set up to be a 4+OD nearly but I still think not adding a 6th gear was just a lazy cost saving measure if I'm honest. 6 gears would make a lot more sense imo. It's definitely a great looking bike :)

    I have a Stryker bullet cowl, with black trim, an ECU flash (Ivan's), swept aftermarket exhaust, aftermarket intake, 240 rear tire, 2" lowering kit with progressive spring, and a front pulley from a Yamaha Bolt (smaller radius), and forward control extensions with mini floorboards. My buddy's Raider does all it can to keep up. The smaller pulley and ECU flash basically eliminates the throttle and gearing gripes you had, and acceleration is significantly improved. Smaller pulley does make it sing a bit more on the highway, but it still isn't bad. 240 rear tire improves handling. There are some aftermarket front rotors and better pads available, but a dual brake kit is not available unless you get a custom front wheel. Personally I use both brakes all the time, as it's a good habit to have in an emergency, so I can't complain about the brakes.
    I've ridden the Raider.. it's smoother, heavier, torquier, redlines much lower.. but is only slightly faster to 100mph, and doesn't handle quite as well. It is also a bit more complicated to do maintenance on, if that's your thing.

    • @TheGorillaBiker
      @TheGorillaBiker  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Really? That is pretty interesting that it can be made to feel a bit bitier with what sounds like fairly straight forward changes. Glad to hear the throttle and gearing can be sorted too! Yeah but I'd be like you, I'd take the slight annoyance on a highway to have it work better everywhere else. Good trade off. Yeah I was thinking it'd be a big job to add a rotor, but it's a pity, it stops fine and the rear brake is great, but I just like having a lot of brake power on tap.
      Yeah I get that, I do actually like maintaining the bikes, that said if you did similar work to the Raider it'd probably be faster again. I just like the thoughts of a stupid big engine too :D Thanks for commenting tho, very interesting info!

    Thanx for the video as I had a Stryker and really liked it as Yamaha is simply a good no problem bike. I traded her in when I saw the raider the big brother and will have it til the end of my cruising days. Take care and be safe.

    I just bought a 2011 Yamaha Stryker YESTERDAY ! I traded in my 2001 Honda Shadow Spirit 750 (Damn Good Bike !) for what I will confidently say is the BEST bike I've ever owned. The Stryker feels like the roads are made of glue because it sticks no matter how windy it is. I HATED the wind on my Honda. The Stryker also looks BADASS, and has all the features my Interceptors had like gas gauge, etc. The Stryker has SO much power and torque that I can get up to 50 mph in no time. It's just a FUN, RAD bike .

      Congrats! May it serve you well :) It was very comfy on the road, I'd need to make some changes for my size but otherwise it'd be tasty. I'm glad you like it so much, always nice to hit it off with a new bike so well :)

    Hands down. If you are taller than 6' the Stryker and the Raider are the best bikes out there. A big plus is that they come out of the crate a beast. None of that stage 1,2,3,4 junk.

    Been riding my 2017 Stryker since buying it new in 2018 and absolutely love it. I completely agree that it feels like it needs a 6th gear and pretty much everything you have mentioned is spot on. Have considered moving onto something bigger and more powerful but honestly... i dont think i could part with her. Without offending you fine gentlemen, i would even say its a perfect cruiser for a lady rider (ref: me, a lady rider).

      Haha it actually means a lot that an owner didn't think I was a giant silly goose about the bike so thank you :)
      Ah it's one of those things, I feel similar about my CBF1000, but at the same time every time I look at another bike to switch to it just doesn't tick as many boxes. The Stryker was so nice to ride to be fair, I felt at home very quickly.
      Haha I would never take offense to that :D I'll ride any and all bikes :) But I get it, I know I'd definitely think it'd be a bike I'd recommend to my wife! :)

    Thank god we are all different is what I say. That bike has looks only a mother could love, but I wouldn't want the HD either. I will walk home from here thanks. The more I see of the USA the stranger it is. Where are all the people? Interesting to see, and interesting to ride along with you. Good you managed to get a bike this trip. Have fun. 👍

      @TheGorillaBiker  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hahaha walk 😂😂 Christ that's a strong statement of the bike eh :P You know I'm a lover of all styles, now put it beside an Aprilia RSV4, even tho I can't fit on them, I'd still have the Aprilia. The HD felt wicked uncomfortable even just sitting on it tbh. I do like the looks of the Stryker tho, kinda like a factory attempt at a choppery thing.
      Where are they, everywhere but man there is so much more space for everyone. A lot less crowded. They're also driving around in their cars crashing a lot if you were to base it on Tampa 😂😂 I saw multiple crashes a day. Nice people tho big time.
      Thanks Stephen, glad you enjoyed it. You going to get another Instagram? I'm just landed home now thankfully back to the bikes!

      @@TheGorillaBiker It is like a caricature of a chopper/cruiser. Perhaps a manga design . . . I was sad you didn't like the Softail Slim as that is one of the few HD that does appeal to me . . . HD do make bigs that appear big till you put a person on them.

    • @TheGorillaBiker
      @TheGorillaBiker  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's a fair comment, definitely a bit of a manga-ish inspiration in the design I think.
      I didn't not like it, I'll talk about it soon, it's just that particular bike handled very poorly. I think it was more the big fat front tyre and apes that caused the handling issues tho. I loved a lot about it. Haha yeah I always thought Harleys were HUGE until I sat on a few.

      I had the bike out for over 130 miles on the day. It felt way too vibey at higher revs for comfortably cruising imo. When I was going a bit faster earlier in the day on actual roads with bends in them I had the revs up, it's still not fast imo.
