I'm certainly no fan of Mac, but being the devil's advocate here, more often than not, I have to use another PC to fix a PC issue. What sucks with this operation is that if you are trying to save the guy's info, (like I'm trying to do), it doesn't look too promising right now.
Help needed! My friend has an iMac 2013 and after a power failure it doesn’t boot, after running disk utility it reports the HDD is unformatted and smart error. I can’t run First Aid even if I select the disc, the disc also report a size of 4.14GB, actual size is 1TB. Tried to install Homebrew and testdisk from the Terminal to recover the partition but it throws up a syntax error. Can I run testdisk from a USB drive? Or anything else I can do to recover the partition?
I can't get this to work, as my old iMac used rEFInd which would automatically load and not let me do Internet Recovery. does anyone know what to do about that?
I have an Imac I deleted the iIOS but after I deleted it I couldn’t reload the IOS because i lost wifi connection. I couldn’t log on to wifi because the keyboard is bluetooth and it wouldn’t pair up so I took the batteries out of Imac keyboard reiserted and it found it. the disk utility screen dissapeared and I had no way of getting back to it I tried Comman + R but that did not bring the disc Utility menu back. Any advice to what I can try. When I push command are it is in constant mode of searching for keyboard and mouse. cannot pair the keyboard or mouse now. Any help greatly appreciated.

I'm trying to reinstall macOS as you are, but where you have the option as to where to install it, you click on the HD icon, mine does not show any options. Mine says "select the disk where you want to install Macoc" but there are no options to click on. What should I do? thanks

Did a diagnosis test and found nothing wrong. Tried the command r tried the shift tried the option for internet recovery. Still nothing. I have mostly windows computers. I do have and iPhone and iPad. Any help is greatly appreciated.

It keeps on giving me error saying "an error occurred when preparing the installation". Changed the date and time still nothing. So I am trying to start from the beginning by erasing everything again. APFS is greyed out. When I choose Mac OS extended journaled, it gives me an error.
I did this too. Chose MAC OS extended. The process then took long, restarted it in the morning. When i tried to switch it on, only a folder with question mark stays on, wont go into recovery mode too. Have you fixed yours?
Maybe it’s time to take my Mac into the store. I’ve searched and tried anything and everything for 2 weeks , after attempting an update that my iMac wasn’t capable of doing being 2014. Now it’s stuck Black and a mess , why one last suggestion.

My problem at the moment is that I have an old MacOS X from back in 2009 and unfortunately although it had been working and using Mac High Sierra perfectly up to a few t days ago, then I did something stupid and accidentally removed or deleted some of the most essential software programs and now find myself that I am not able to see the main HD or get the actual windows for Recovery or installation of any new software such as a new High Sierra. I thought I could over come all the issues by inserting the original Installation of MacOS X that came with the Mac when I first bought it and also unless I insert this DVD I am not able to see anything at all on the computer. I have used this DVD before to re-install the MacOS X software and it worked perfectly, but now it doesn't seem to want to do anything. If you think you might be able to share any advice or help me to sort it out, I would be happy to explain things a little further in order for you to be able to understand it better. Unfortunately the Apple support members have given up on me as I also have problems with the Keyboard and the mouse, so I have been left in the lurch so of thing. Thanks for the vid, finally connected to the recovery utility using CTRL+R. the trick was timing it right after the chime.

I was using open apple (command) shift R thanks its option not shift! Remember open apple?
I get the keyboard error on mine but the keyboard is working flawlessly. I think that one is a random "bug"
