by far the most useful video that actually allowed me to get somewhere. I read tons of other articles but none of them mentioned pressing the keys BEFORE turning the laptop on. Haven't fixed it yet but at least now it's a spinning globe instead of a flashing grey question mark folder.

I got in by pressing R and Control. I got on a spinning globe which asked for my internet p/w so far so good. Then your OS X Utilities box up. Click disc utilities that takes me to a box that calls itself Disk Utility but does not look the one on here. And i clicked on delete and nothing seems to happen except they tell me i’m not online. I’m stuck and do not know what to do next. All this because i forgot my damned username. I haven’t begun to use it yet. HELP!

none of the solutions on the video worked for me. this was clearly a hardware issue in my case. after watching the video, i did a bit of research, opened up the laptop, tested the hdd externally (it was fine) and accurately diagnosed the issue as a faulty HDD/SSD cable (probably due to heat - these laptops can get hot). so i ordered a replacement online, had it delivered in 3 days and replaced it myself (this laptop is built like lego) and it worked like new and no data lost👌

Wasn't sure what to do next as it was asking me questions that didn't come up in your tutorial, so I shut down with power button, and unplugged my hard-drive (was worried all my files would be wiped if not). Started my laptop up again without the hard-drive, and it repeated the recovery process. I wiped my disc completely deleting everything and while I was still on recovery mode my laptop battery went out forcing it to shut down. When I booted it back up it said contact  support blahblah. If nothings works its either the disk is totally coruped or the disk cabel s broken.
Personally I had to use an external hard drive to temporarly run the OS system on. or you can replace the Disk.

Yes I believe at that stage you can connect to internet recovery mode. That should be an option too

    • @carlomac

I think that means it’s having trouble connecting to apples server. In your modem router change to google dns settings (login to your router via another device), for the primary make it 8 8 8 8 and for secondary make it 8 8 4 4

Question: if you install macOS on an external hard drive, then basically if your Time Machine backup is old, you can’t recover any of the new stuff that was on your Computer, right?

Hi, When I do the Re-install Mac OS Option. No Disk images are shown (to select) to re-install Mac. I followed your video and understood that using the Disk Repair Utility we need to fix this part. Does this mean that my internal iMAC disk is corrupted / gone ?

I encountered this issue today. I was running a partitioned HD with Bootcamp, mostly running Windows. I tried many of your steps but did not try to the "nunclear" option of reinstalling MacOS, as I did not want to lose all my Windows data. I was able to get into Disk Utility and run First Aid, but I'm not sure if it helped or hurt. Eventually, after several restarts and holding Option, I saw the spinning globe icon and it asked me for a WiFi password. And finally, it just gave up and referred me to Apple Support. So, I pulled the SSD and ordered an enclosure. My main fear is losing all data, primarily that was in the Bootcamp Win. partition. Usually, in Disk Utility, I would see BOOTCAMP listed as a drive as Windows, but the last time I was in Disk Utility, I just saw one drive (Mac) listed BUT the file storage bar, show it full, so I'm hoping I can still access the data on another computer. I would like to hear your thoughts/advice.btw, I did reset the PRAM and NVRAM as well. Thanks!
