  • An analysis of how Daredevil inspired the parody of Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the creation of TMNT #1, and the legacy of both Daredevil and the Turtles. Learn about the origin of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, how Daredevil and TMNT share the same radioactive accident origin, how The Foot Clan and The Hand are the same, the evolution of TMNT through comic books, TV, movies, and more, and how Matt Murdock, Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangelo, and Donatello have changed over the years.

This reminds me how much I wanted there to be a Daredevil Crossover with the turtles where Splinter explains the origin of the turtles to Matt and he realizes that in a way his good deed of saving the blind man lead to the creation of 4 heros and that he is sort of welcomed into the family. Could be wholesome.

I gotta say TMNT might be the perfect franchise. It is the perfect mix of Strreet level, Scifi, martial arts and mysticism. The 2003 was my childhood and will always be my favorite.

The Foot Clan is legit just an objective improvement on The Hand. Way more personality and character than the Hand will ever have. (I think having a consistent face like Shredder is a big part of it.)

TMNT is not satire. It's an homage at best...or a rip-off if you want to be critical. I know Eastman and Laird have called it satire but there's nothing satirical within the pages. I love Ninja Turtles; I'm one of the biggest fans of TMNT comics ever and I understand the concept started as a joke... But the book was not satire or parody (which are very different things, by the way) at all! Ever!

Why didn’t marvel comics just buy the rights to teenage mutant ninja turtles they make more sense to be part of the marvel universe than the DC universe

I stood next to Kevin Eastman for a few hours during a con to help facilitate things. He eagerly greeted each fan and earnestly listened to their stories for hours on end. It was inspiring to watch.

Simply, We All Need to Learn from Eastman and Lairs to make a Great Franchise by Luck

If anybody is interested in reading TMNT comics, the IDW reboot is absolutely great. The Mirage books are super creative but there's a lot and they're not as easy to find.

Rise of the TMNT was such an eye-opener for me. I’ve been a fan of this franchise since before I could talk, and when you follow something that long you assume that the best adaptations will be the ones that revere what came before. But Rise throws reverence out in favor of some genuinely fresh takes on the material, and as a result it’s my favorite version of the turtles to date. Nostalgia is a hell of a drug, but a willingness to evolve is what keeps these franchises worth loving long term.

the 2003 series is my era of the turtles. It's also probably the best synthesis of the numerous aspects of the franchise, the right amount of fun and seriousness

I think there's something poetic that Daredevil stayed in comparative obscurity, whilst the Turtles became household names.

The Nickelodeon 3D animated TMNT was really good for most of its run.

    I still can't believe we haven't gotten a DD/TMNT crossover. I need it.

Love this! I’m a huge TMNT fan and seeing how they contrast with DD is so fascinating. Been putting off getting into the IDW series due to lack of free time but this has been a great reminder to jump in!

I’d love to see you do an episode on Mark Waid’s “Purple Children” arc. It was my favorite story in Waid’s run as it had a real heavy effect on Matt. Anyway I love your work and will continue to enjoy your episodes as they come out.

Imagine Matt saving that man and not only inadvertently becoming a hero himself but creating 4 teen heroes with hearts of gold as well.

I have to thank the NES game for leading me to the turtles comic. I was consumed with that image of them in all red bandanas. I was about 5-6 and I asked my mom to ask the comic store near me if they knew anything about it and I really have to think the girl at the counter for dropping a ton of those comics in my lap without telling my parents how dark they were
