Then I got near the end and immediately got super hyped. The changes made me so happy and actually made me like it a lot more. Thats just me though
The Switch is shaping up to be my favorite console, and I'm excited for this game. However I think this shows exactly why a more powerful Switch is necessary. That multiplayer framerate doesn't even look playable. It's not just about graphics, though improved visuals always are nice, it's also about performance and what kind of things can be done in a game. Dragon Quest Heroes 1+2 pack that was only released in Japan also suffered bad framerate issues on Switch.

Yeah no if I had any reason to play this game was to cry helplessly all night long at the end. But seeing how they made a new alternate timeline and won't tell us what exactly happened (and with the new trailer hinting at a happy ending) just makes me not wanna buy it.
Where I’m disappointed is the fact that they were so ambiguous about the way the story would play out. I feel like they used the “Breath of the Wild prequel” as a way to sell a bunch of copies of the game seeing as it’s their holiday title. Had they been honest from the beginning and stated that this is a Breath of the Wild SPINOFF I would be more excited about the game. They have been teasing us with this games canonicity for the past two months and yeah, I think you get my point. I’m sure it will be fun to play and all but I wish the marketing had been different. All I can hope is that Botw 2 won’t follow AoC’s story. (I DONT think that is likely, seeing as it was Botw’s DIRECT sequel, but who knows at this point :/)

I don't know if they've optimised the game in the background but I've played in exclusively two player mode and only have frame issues if we both use special attacks at the same time in the middle of the same mob
Honestly I was looking forward to the game, but when playing the demo, the frame rate was constantly lagging and could barely handle 30fps, I was even seeing massive pop on from small buildings, trees, and also grass just by walking a few feet away. At one point in the level with the guardian, the game went down to around 5fps, in SINGLE PLAYER! Combine that with the fact that I have never been a big fan of warriors games to begin due to the grindy elements, it kinda let me down a bit even though I was never a fan of the genre. However, playable Hestu has me saying otherwise lol.

Hey, I just wanted to ask, without spoilers... please don’t spoil... but does this game retcon breath of the wild? Like does it end the way it’s SUPPOSED to end? Or is this like a “what if” alternate ending?
I'm glad we got the story for the Age of Calamity, and in all honesty, I don't think it could be told any other way, other than a full novelized series.
Impa for Smash. I want another zelda character in smash bros. Impa would be so cool. Imagine cloning in smash bros and creating a nimble Rosalina and Luma type of character.
Even though I thought Breath of the Wild was trash this game looks really fun. The puzzles and the constantly breaking weapons ruined Breath of the Wild for me.
I'm a hack and slash fan, and the demo for this game showed that it took a pretty large leap foward compared to the og hyrule warriors (which I was relatively disappointed with) so I will def be getting it!
Nope, sadly not. People need to stop comparing BOTW with age of calamity. They’re two ENTIRELY SEPARATE genre of games. If you buy this game expecting a BOTW experience, you will be heavily disappointed. It’s just a hack and slash game with some Zelda paint added on.
I’m still so hyped for this, I’ve seen spoilers and sure they’re kind of like disappointing knowing the potential of what could’ve been especially as it was set up as a “prequel” to BOTW. BUT I’m still keen to experience something new, at its core it’s still a HackAndSlash so all the comparisons to BOTW seem unfair. Ofc you can’t just explore everywhere like BOTW and they want to at least surprise people with something new, I think if they hadve just communicated that from the beginning we wouldn’t be seeing these sorts of criticisms
There's nothing new here, if you've played hyrule warriors you've played this. The game chugs along. Im a fan of the original hyrule warriors, but this game just does not run well.
Sure, I already have Pirate Warriors 4 to scratch that Musou itch. But unbreakable, upgradeable tree branch and soup ladle weapons are too hard to ignore.
I think I like the Hyrule Warriors games more than the proper Zelda series games. I love the combat sure. But when it's time for Zelda lore (in other games), the story annoys me. Link doing everything alone is sad. The puzzles don't excite me. And I can leave the searching and mystique element alone. So yeah. Outside of the Musou games, I think the Zelda element isn't for me. Interesting because most folks will come into this game looking for more of the Zelda formula.
All I want to know is if the story told in this game is to be considered canon to the Zelda timeline or not. I don’t want any spoilers. I just want to know if the events that take place in this game, are a build up to what eventually happens in breath of the wild? Or is it simply a “what if story”.
It is canon but SPOILERS This is an alternate timeline as you saw in the opening cutscene. The champions won, and you can see the last cutscene on TH-cam. Huge disappointment.
Considering the zelda time line is strung pretty poorly together because the games were originally stand alones but everyone expects it to flow, it probably doesn't. It doesn't make it a bad game though even if it doesn't... I mean it hasn't mattered for the past however many years! Zelda games never end on a bad note (ie the player looses) so doubtful this would stray from that even if it's supposed to go the other way. We'll find out for sure soon as chances are this will get DLC at a later date. Seriously the first Hyrule Warriors did so wouldn't put it past them keeping the true ending under wraps so hackers and data miners can't spoil it for everyone.
Omg I hope so, even though I've always wanted the skull kid with Majora's Mask to be in Smash but any character from Zelda that isn't the usual 3 Link/Zelda/Ganondorf is welcome.
Should have gotten a 9 for just being fucking amazing. A game shouldn't EVER get a lower score just for being what it is. You cant expect a MUSOU game to have the depth of a GOTY winner like BOTW, you just cant. It should be rated compared to other titles like it.
MASSIVE SPOILER: EVERYONE DIED EXCEPT FOR LINK LINK SLEPT IN ZELDA'S GUARDIAN COOCHIE CAVE WHILE ZELDA TRYING TO HOLDBACK CALAMITY GANONDORK IN THE CASTLE
If this is a prequel to the events of the main game then hell yeah I’ll play this first. I mean I prefer this game anyway because it’s a fast paced hack n slash.
Constantly comparing this to Breath of the Wild is as useful as comparing Gwent to The Witcher 3. They're games in totally different genres and aren't even pretending like they're not
It's not only demo footage. They said when you see the watermark in the bottom lefthand corner that indicates demo footage, everything else is newly captured footage.
@@anneprocter Oh, that explains the tens of walkthroughs from people I've never even seen. I have no idea if any of them acknowledged that they got a copy because I don't watch them for spoilers. Ive always loved Warriors games so ill probably enjoy this (LOVED Hyrule Warriors)
@@mark012498 apparently not, according to that review story is good with a insane amount of cutscene, enjoyable story, but it's a alternate timeline. So I guess it's not a direct prequel sadly
Sorry, but you're wrong on here .. This game is made to be played BEFORE botw, playing the war referenced, and experiencing life with the sage's, makes them even more relevant to botw as someone who's experienced the narrative vs just being told about it, expecting to bond with vague characters, don't tell me, show me, age of calamity does all this
I'm super happy that this game is good and looks FUN, has good music, art, story, battle mechanics, secrets, depth, and everything botw didn't have that was a zelda staple this, is the REAL breath of the wild, and the 2017 one will just be consider a pre sequel shoe-in, in my eyes (also, any ending that's "good", as in the heroes winning, kind of defeats the purpose, doesn't it? XC2 Torna had a sad ending but it linked everything together, so it fulfilled its purpose
Unpopular opinion: I found it to be kinda boring and tedious, pressing the same button patterns over and over again. I will still buy it though because I want to learn the full story.
Once I bought a Warriors game and that's it. Never make that mistake again. Warriors tittles are like bad written fanfiction. Boss are as easy as the next. So, personally I won't buy it. I love the champions but I wouldn't like to see I don't know, a forced triangle with Link- Zelda-Mipha, or whatever they did.
Astor is the main villain and he’s the one who summons calamity ganon. Kohga has a new strong soldier called sooga who is his main buddy. Astor is basically kohga’s boss. After Astor tries to kill kohga and sooga as a sacrifice for ganon (he succeeds in killing sooga) KOHGA JOINS YOU. YOU CAN PLAY AS MASTER KOHGA and the yiga clan is on your side. The egg guardian BRINGS SIDON, YUNOBO, RIJU AND TEBA FROM THE FUTURE AND THE CHAMPIONS DON’T DIE BECAUSE OF THIS.
1 little bitty super small problem, It's meant to tell the story of what happened 100 years before breath of the Wild. While it is technically a side game the fact that it has been made to tell the story of that one and the developers have worked very closely with the team behind breath of the wild in order to tell this story means it's to be considered more of a Zelda game than a proper Warriors game. You are forgetting to mention this fact as the type of game this is supposed to be was clearly stated in the original Nintendo reveal message. REMEMBER this is the part that was not in the trailer but the stuff surrounding the very first announcement trailer. Please do go back and watch it. Again nothing negative I am just pointing out that calling it more of a Warriors game than a Zelda game is incorrect on that point. Again please do take the time to go back and watch that as I forget how you spell his name but you probably know who I mean talks about what type of game eight of calamity is supposed to be. Not an exact quote but it was along the lines of "We thought that the warriors style of game would work well in telling the story of what happened 100 years ago. ". So saying this is not a zelda game is clearly a contradiction to that statement. It is in fact a true combination of both elements

I'm a hack and slash fan, and the demo for this game showed that it took a pretty large leap foward compared to the og hyrule warriors (which I was relatively disappointed with) so I will def be getting it!
Question if i dont like Dynasty Warrior games as to me they get boring really fast, but I absolutely LOVE BOTW Will i still like this game?
Nope, sadly not. People need to stop comparing BOTW with age of calamity. They’re two ENTIRELY SEPARATE genre of games. If you buy this game expecting a BOTW experience, you will be heavily disappointed. It’s just a hack and slash game with some Zelda paint added on.
Fantastic review. This was so good. I know exactly what I'm getting into. I'm into it, but I know the caveats. Jesus Christ, this was a great review.
do i have to finish BOTW because i am like half wat through yet still have a strong connection with many almost all the characters?
@Midna Gamer BOTW should be played first so you understand what happens when Ganon wins and so you can understand the characters.
"Kick ass tune" I think you mean "Shit's lit, fam."
What's the name of the background music?
The cadence of hyrule comparison is rather interesting. Thank you!
I’m getting it!!! I loved Breath of the Wild like mostly everyone! I also love Slashers! So it’s a Win Win!!!
I avoided the spoilers so far... I don't think I will buy the game but my hands are itchy to do so.
Lol what are you doing with your life if you haven’t played BOTW yet 😂😂😂
Agreed.
It's so true
still waiting for a sale hahahahaha, been playing hades
@@HeyyHeyyHeyy08 better off searching for a 2nd hand copy
@@HeyyHeyyHeyy08 Which essentially means you are never getting the game.
What's the theme at 0:39?
I bought hyrule warriors legends for 3ds an can’t wait to pick up my pre order of age calamity Friday
Same
It is canon but SPOILERS
This is an alternate timeline as you saw in the opening cutscene. The champions won, and you can see the last cutscene on TH-cam. Huge disappointment.
It’s a „what if“ story but it is canon. Just picture the way OoT did timeline splits, it is used here again.
Not canon, people survive
Do you have to have finished BOTW to play/enjoy this?
I think this is a promotion of bringing Impa into Smash
This. Absolutely this.
But how long does your weapons last before they break? 😅
10 KO's mean your weapon breaks 🤣
MASSIVE SPOILER:
EVERYONE DIED EXCEPT FOR LINK
LINK SLEPT IN ZELDA'S GUARDIAN COOCHIE CAVE
WHILE ZELDA TRYING TO HOLDBACK CALAMITY GANONDORK IN THE CASTLE
@Alexander Nicolas Micheli now you just spoiled the game for that person

Damn it my spoiler backfired😭😭🥺👉👈
Boy O boy will you be sad
But does it have Linkle?
totally agree with the divine beasts part...skipped all their not required missions as they are not as fun to play

I think you can call it a Zelda game because it’s canon. I get your review but I might just buy it to show BOTW devs how much I love there world
If this is a prequel to the events of the main game then hell yeah I’ll play this first. I mean I prefer this game anyway because it’s a fast paced hack n slash.
I can’t wait to play this
Constantly comparing this to Breath of the Wild is as useful as comparing Gwent to The Witcher 3. They're games in totally different genres and aren't even pretending like they're not
Once I saw time travel in the demo I accepted it was gonna do its own thing and still gonna enjoy it.
"demo footage only"
then how does the video open with two characters available that can't be unlocked in the demo??
It's not only demo footage. They said when you see the watermark in the bottom lefthand corner that indicates demo footage, everything else is newly captured footage.
@@DrazenX195 so how do they capture new footage two days before the game releases? I preordered the game and I still can't play it
@@samboi123 TH-camrs/media outlets get early review copies so they have reviews ready to go before/when the game launches

@@anneprocter Oh, that explains the tens of walkthroughs from people I've never even seen. I have no idea if any of them acknowledged that they got a copy because I don't watch them for spoilers. They should just post the review on Monday, let people play the game spoiler-free on the weekend like I plan to
Thought the demo was ok, never really played the dynasty warriors stuff properly and isn't really my thing but I gave it a try, I'll pass on this cos I don't fancy paying full price for something I'm not that into but I hope everyone enjoys it until we get botw 2!
Please remove the clips in Korok Forest, there are pretty major spoilers.
Is there an endgame like other warriors game?
Hello there lovely people.
Read this just as he said it
"It's Alex from Nintendo life here "
Just got the console switch (The lite is NOT for people who DONT travel) And realized this game was already out. So came here to see a review (first time on channel) That was also one of my question that was answered, if i should play Breath of the Wild (Having hadn't had a switch long i have not played it) And your answer was yes and i can see why. thanks for the review. Ive always loved Warriors games so ill probably enjoy this (LOVED Hyrule Warriors)
Been playing this all morning and loving it so far
Omg you can actually play as Hestu?
Wait...I can PLAY as Hestu? I was excited before but now I am really excited!
I can't wait to watch all these characters we've to grown to love ultimately fail.
It's actually a alternate timeline story, what a Nintendo world report video said. Did say the story was awesome though
@@GalacticStarForge42 Wait what, really? So it isn’t a direct prequel to BOTW?
@@mark012498 apparently not, according to that review story is good with a insane amount of cutscene, enjoyable story, but it's a alternate timeline. So I guess it's not a direct prequel sadly
@@GalacticStarForge42 isnt there another timeline where they lose?
@@mark012498 no it’s not it’s an alternate timeline where they survive and beat ganon
Sorry, but you're wrong on here ..
This game is made to be played BEFORE botw, playing the war referenced, and experiencing life with the sage's, makes them even more relevant to botw as someone who's experienced the narrative vs just being told about it, expecting to bond with vague characters, don't tell me, show me, age of calamity does all this
I'm super happy that this game is good and looks FUN, has good music, art, story, battle mechanics, secrets, depth, and everything botw didn't have that was a zelda staple
this, is the REAL breath of the wild, and the 2017 one will just be consider a pre sequel shoe-in, in my eyes
(also, any ending that's "good", as in the heroes winning, kind of defeats the purpose, doesn't it? XC2 Torna had a sad ending but it linked everything together, so it fulfilled its purpose
@@cbn1130 breath of the wild isn't like any other zelda game (except MAYBE zelda 1) so i could say the same
Unpopular opinion: I found it to be kinda boring and tedious, pressing the same button patterns over and over again. I will still buy it though because I want to learn the full story.
apparently the story isn't exactly as straight forward as being the events prior to BoTW. So just be aware of that.
Just a warning. This isn’t a prequel. It is canon, but it isn’t a prequel
Unpopular opinion? What is that?
Why is everyone who is interested in this game just for the story buy it? Why not just watch on youtube
Excellent review and narration - well done!
Just found out that there is a demo and played it, think I'll get the full version it's really fun and love seeing all the characters again
King Rhoam also doesn’t die and you also can play as him

I havn't played BoTW yet... I am getting it and Hyrule Warriors next month though
How is post game
But how does it compare to hyrule warriors? Is it actually worth the sixty dollars like the first warriors was?
SPOILER ALERT!!!: The calamity is going to win and link is going to sleep for 100 years
