I feel bad for the designer who is potentially going to miss out on his profit share due to Lego’s pricing of this set. I’m in Canada so it’s even more expensive than the US’s 300 price point so it’s a hard pass for me even though I really like it.
My one gripe with this set, besides the price, is how fast the light turns. Usually it's a lot slower and you kind of wait for the light to loop around and hit you.
The set is stunningly beautiful but the price is one of the worst of the year for any set I feel. I have spent the past couple of days going back and forth whether to get one or not and while part of me says I shouldn‘t support the price politics of Lego these days that kinda feel like they fill their pockets on top of the overall inflation we all deal with, I decided to get one after all. I have limited space and while it would fit perfectly next to the Old Fishing Store I chose to place it on the nightstand next to my bed. Whenever we go on vacation to the ocean anywhere in the world, I always try to find hotel rooms where I can sit by the window and watch lighthouses before I go to sleep. Placing it next to my bed will allow me to have that permanently. ☺️
I've seen two other videos where the light was bright. Both were in rooms that was still daylight outside yet light was still coming/peeking in from drawn shades. This one here, the light in the darkened room looks so faint, weak, likes it's on a run down battery. Love to see more comparisons with the light. That would be a deal breaker for me if it's just a weak faint light. It doesn't need to be blinding light, but a strong steady light or it's just an expensive experiment that doesn't work too well. Model as is, is great looking though.
I am sure the light is strong, the camera was close to the light source so the camera focused on it and darkened the background. If they took a step back and Gave us a wider view of the room it would have given us a better look at the light beam hitting the wall. Imo This set is worth getting if you have your doubts also I think the lights used might be from technic? (probably in vehicle sets), anyways if you find a review of a set using those exact elements maybe there will be more reviews about the strength of the light beams.
Excellent review of a good looking set and the figures (The Keeper, the Lady, seagull and cat) add a bit of variety, could use a few more seagulls tho. The listed price here will be AUD $469.00, however other stockists should have it for $20-30 less, I hope. Cheers 👍
I like it a lot, great style and appreciate the minifigure scale. 😃A red striped version would fit my image of lighthouses even better (and would reduce the amount of white, I usually stay away from sets with lots of white, but I can’t pass here) but that’s a local bias I think. The reviews raise some concern to the power of the light. Fixable, but shouldn’t be (same for the speed). 🤔The price is really really steep and the functions don’t explain that price level for me. 🙁I will wait for a great GWP or double points or an offer from another reseller.
For that price, it should have been hiding the Big Ugly Rock Pieces much better, and perhaps offer the option to regulate the speed of the light. It looks amazing, but unless I win the lottery, or see this on a good discount, I won't be picking it up.
oh cool. now that I know there is going to be a lighthouse set, I can alter my plans for my lego city. was going to use a 3in1, but now i can just get this and use that :p lol
3:38 I'm surprised that was said in the instruction. Interviews with designers I've read in the past say otherwise for things like this. For some who don't know why they have certain colorful parts within a kit is that Lego designers use other colors to make it easier to follow the instructions and build the model. Simple as that. That was said in interviews with designers and people who've known and talked to Lego designers themselves. The way Lego does their product is that every kit/set can be someones FIRST Lego model. You want to make it accessible to everyone, so they don't become frustrated on their first time build and may not want to purchase again. The numbered bags, the colors in the interior to help guide certain parts so there's no mistakes. Other times there are colored bricks within a model, like a pink block in a Brickheadz which is for fun (like a brain) and the Marvel S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier within has the flag of the country the designer is from, kinda' like a signature, like he 'signed' the model within, like an artist (which I feel they are) would.
Pretty curious how people critic this set for its price but say no single word about the silly Typewriter set which cost the stupid amount of $250 for the same piece range and have so single motor on it
I only have 1 single beef with this set that makes me hesitent to buy it: the sound it makes. I am really put off by that motorized sound. No one else seems to mention it though.
I am a Harry Potter fan so the fact that the train is bigger than regular Lego track is not an issue. I think the set is cool. The concern for me is the price and that it has stickers at that price. I hate stickers. They are fine for sets designed for children, but think not so much on sets for adults. My 2 cents
Hi Sam, we are an independent LEGO fan site. Since we are LEGO fans, our set reviews are going to be mostly positive. We show off features of the set and you can decide for yourself if it's worth your money. Thanks for watching!
@@hokey4404 speaking personally for myself I have no gripes with this set. I feel the purpose of it was achieved and a lot of the stuff I get to review are things that fit my interests. Also, coming from someone that used to build MOCs, I think things were handled great in my opinion especially upscaling it from it’s original scale.
@@BeyondtheBrick As a fan of Lego I feel like it is important to consider the price (compared to Lego itself) when reviewing specially when it is an astronomical one...Daily Bugle (licensed?) is nearly twice as big and it is for the same price? The light house costs twice as the black smith ideas set (in Europe)? Home alone ideas set is cheaper than the light house? I think the majority of us love Lego and find this light house set amazing but I also think the price makes no sense (in the Lego world). Adding some motor etc. is great but we all have many sets with motors and never did we have to spend such amounts on those sets. Honestly, the price is shocking even considering inflation... I ordered last week Sanctum Sanctrum set so I hope I keep Lego as a hobby moving forward...I think the result of such prices will be fans moving away from buying (or at least reducing their purchases of Lego). Not good for fans and potentially Lego...
for 300€ its just a bad set. It has visible cables, no prints, it doesn't even look that good and Legos quality just goes downhill for a long time now. Also for 70€ less you can get the lighthouse from Bluebrixx with over 6800 pieces... Lego - this makes me sad :(

It really is!

Makes me think, for some reason, that maybe a '20,000 Leagues Under the Sea' set would be cool. 😄
This was such a fun build to experience so hopefully those of you getting it will enjoy it too! Thanks again to the Hanlons for sending this my way!
Awesome set! Unfortunately I will not be picking this up. Great pieces as well! Good review as well Kirk.
I hope Lego will make more paintings like how they did the Starry night set 🤞

Ay, nice intro. Great video. Thanks lots.
amazing set
Great set but I think it’s price is a bit steep unfortunately. A few more land base details would have been nice. Thanks for showing us tho
Great review, thanks!
Do you think it's a good first set for someone who built his last Lego set almost 50 years ago ?
No
Is the light bright?? In this video it seems very low/dim
Great animated opening, great detail. BTW, what's w/ the aninated war scenes?
Love this set! Damn lego you be making me broke! Take my money💰💰💰…although I would’ve liked some red accents on the tower structure.

Great review of a great set.
Would have really been interested if it was about 100 bucks cheaper.
I really want this set but its so Expensive for me at least
wow grat video but id expect nothing less d
Nice intro 😎👍🏼
Love the build as well
Need it snuggled up with the old fishing store
how about the noise when light rotating?
I only have 1 single beef with this set that makes me hesitent to buy it: the sound it makes. I am really put off by that motorized sound. No one else seems to mention it though.
It's not really that loud, the motor is isolated from the base with rubber pieces. It depends what surface you set it on
I want it put that price is just way to high for that piece count. LEGO is becomming more and more to expencive for me
2:36 RIP little friend
