I learned to appreciate living this lifestyle when I moved into a 25' camper offgrid. You learn what needs are and the value of a simplistic life. I now have a humble mountain home because of some lucky real estate investments when the boom hit. My home is paid off....i only need to go to town every two weeks. He is absolutley right about the connection to nature and to self...that satisfies me more than society ever did.
For every one person doing this, there are thousands who want to. It's not terribly difficult folks, you've just got to figure out the logistics for your area. Shelter, power, water, food. It's not that dissimilar from an urban home, you're just supplying these items yourself instead of paying someone else to do it.
There is satisfaction in doing everything for yourself, but I have lived this way before and it’s a ton of work to keep basic needs met. It’s also expensive to start out and maintain (most people who live off-grid still have jobs). So do it if you have a passion for it - but don’t expect that it’s an easier way to live, or that you can completely disconnect from social and economic pressures.
@@artlesscalamity Nah... it's easy. Far easier and massively cheaper than living in the city. I spend less time "maintaining" than I did just paying bills when I was in the city. Looking back on it, I overspent to put together my utilities (about 5k) that's water, gas, and electricity. Knowing what I know now, I could do it for half that cost.
@@chriswhinery Feeding a family only through farming, gathering and/or hunting is definitely not “easy.” Things go wrong all the time with off-grid spaces - maintenance, pests, water supply, transportation. Stuff breaks. You are never completely “cut off” which means you still always need an income. I’m happy for you that you enjoy it, my message is for other people who romanticize this kind of living. You got a beautiful home and set up there. I'm definitely going to be doing a water setup like you got. Thank you for showing us. Myself I live in a cabin, (8 x 16 feet), in the woods and I would much rather this over living in a full house, in a neighborhood, on grid. I have my reasons and financial is not the only reason.
I think it's not talked about enough on these off grid channels, how important it is to own the land you're living in, and the cost of that. Lots of people will never reach the escape velocity needed to even begin to afford their own chunk of land.

That is very true. With chickens, veggie gardens and fruit/nut trees to tend, things to build and create I can fill all the daylight hours every day of the week. Wouldn’t swap it for anything 😊
I have done this numerous times on boats and in cabins. There is something really alive about something you build yourself. My current stealth cabin is hexagonal and 4.2 metres point to point. I have never figured out what the ideal size is.
Wife and are building, hopefully in the spring of 25. We are going to be off the grid but with conventional appliances powered by solar/hydro power that we produce. Also using wood heaters and cook stove with hot water supplied by the woodstove during the cold months. The area we are looking at land in gets about four feet of snow a year is the reason for duel electric generation. We want to go small, two bedroom, ine bathroom and an open kitchen/living room area. My last off the grid house was a conversion from a conventional home. I will never do that again. Much easier to go from the ground up i believe. Some may disagree but thats my thinking.

So do it if you have a passion for it - but don’t expect that it’s an easier way to live, or that you can completely disconnect from social and economic pressures.
@@artlesscalamity
Nah...
It’s not a vibe or a vacation - it’s constant work.
@@artlesscalamity
If you're scared just say so.
Sounds to me like you're overcomplicating the situation because you weren't clever enough to figure out how to make it work.
Why are you even here?
Go troll somewhere else 😆
I really loved this video. Just subscribed. Loved your dining set up with those beautiful wildflowers. And homemade elderberry champagne? Would you show us how you made it? 🙏🙏🙏
I'm so glad I found this channel. We are doing something very similar on our land. We live in a village in South Africa though so we have animals and sounds of children al the time. 😊 so lovely to see other people living quiet, sustainable lives. New subscriber. ❤

You are so right about everything to do with this way of life. It’s a blessing 😊
Loved the video. Yes I will watch again.
I can totally understand your stated motivations. Also I am SO happy to seeing your dog leashed when you go walking. I have seen sooo many youtubers lose their dogs to the most preventable things.
Beautiful and inspiring.. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. ❤️🔥⚒️🙏
Thank you for the inspiration. You reminded me so much of Eckhart Tolle with your voice at the end! Similar message too.
I take that as a compliment☺️Thanks

So inspiring. .thanks for sharing this.
no worries.. we do understand your motivation .. congratulations!!
Thanks!
I think this way of choosing to live is a natural reaction to dealing with anxiety and the feeling of wanting to have contol in an uncertain world..good luck on your journey
That is my type of ambition! Beautiful land, beautiful life!
I think it's not talked about enough on these off grid channels, how important it is to own the land you're living in, and the cost of that. Lots of people will never reach the escape velocity needed to even begin to afford their own chunk of land.
And then it’s the fact that red tape often then makes living in this way difficult if not impossible. 😢
@@RachelMPowell yeah, like, cops will come because "illegal" total bullshit
@@RachelMPowelldefinitely shouldn't be like that. We should all have the right to live within nature. All these green agendas and yet such small footprints living in harmony with nature vs wasteful toxic rubbish being bought, sold, used and disposed of in our environments.
@@RachelMPowellabsolutely. I even think that government want to make it difficult. This way they can control you. If you have a mortgage they have you. In fact, with kids and a mortgage, they have you lock, stock and barrel!
Well said
I live similarly for many of the reasons you have said. I still work in the world each day then I escape back to my quiet retreat home.
Parabéns por sua escolha, nos tempos atuais no campo a vida é muito mais saudável...
Thanks!☺️
Simple living is not easy. It's a lot of work. Any success is a lot of work, even in the city. I have come to the conclusion that whatever you do, if you want to succeed, you have to be prepared to put in a massive amount of time and energy. But the reward is outstanding. It's much more rewarding to work hard in the forest as opposed to in the city, due to the connection with nature. Very inspiring video.
That is very true. With chickens, veggie gardens and fruit/nut trees to tend, things to build and create I can fill all the daylight hours every day of the week.
Wouldn’t swap it for anything 😊
I admire your lifestyle…Excellent VLOG too.
You're never alone...you're always with yourself.
That is a gorgeous piece of land and house. ❤Well done.
Thanks😊
Humble, serene and amazing ♥️
Thank you for your very beautiful video Anders ⚘
I congratulate you on your beautiful place, a great achievement!

I've been living 6 years in a tiny trailer house I built. Happiest time I've known. Retired and have a big grown-up family. Bliss.
Gorgeous house!! Cheers to your wonderful life!!
You are very blessed indeed. Thanks.
Fantastic video. I watched your other video about collecting rain water. Looks like a lot of work. Can't you bore a well or something? Would make life much easier.
Que bella cabaña, que bello lugar, que bella vida❤
You are living a wonderful simple life!! Enjoyed your video!
Thanks!☺️
Thank you for showing us the 'better way'. Remember you do not owe anyone an explanation. You are doing a wonderful thing. This is the 2nd time I watched this, your show calms me and encourages me. God Bless
😀
I look forward to many more videos from you!😊😍I am praying for a 10acre homestead in the forest, it has a small log cabin, fruit trees and hugelkulture beds installed. I will let you know if it all comes together. My plan is to grow all I eat and chickens for eggs and meat from local farmers.
