I wish they taught English in schools, the way you teach it on TH-cam. It would really help those of us who learn it as a second language in Non English speaking Commonwealth countries.

Aah! Exactly how I learnt English as kid. I used to read books like first person or narrator depending on situation becoming the character as I dint have anyone then to talk to in English. Though in English medium school we spoke in regional language. This was my way to practice speaking and pronunciations. That's really great way to practice by yourself.

Learning English in phrases is essential! One tip I always share with English learners is to always learn the preposition that comes after a word (hope for, wish for, talk about, do research on, happy about, interested in, etc.). 😊

You're not wrong. Phrases "cling" more firmly in one's memory than random single words. In fact, some of those difficult grammatical structures also become easily internalized too. There used to be an English as a Second Language course series of six books and accompanying workbooks first published back in the '60s by Collier-Macmillan called "English 900" that chiefly used 900 memorized phrases to learn English. We used that course in a private language school I worked at for a time in the '80s in Berlin. With a little additional practical conversation and reinforcing vocabulary substitutions that system worked just fine. You can still find free PDF copies of the book series and TH-cam videos of it online. As for my favorite phrases to first learn in any new language, my most favorite is possibly: "У моего утконоса запор, но я потерял свой тотемный столб." [= "My platypus is constipated, but I have lost my totem pole."] I try to learn it in many languages. It's always fun to just say on an elevator...

Learning phrases is much easier than just memorizing words, as well to speak it even if you dont have a partner or you are an introvert just as I am you can use many ways such as imitating, recording yourself as you speak, try to talk about topics you are interested in . And the most important try to paraphrase the speech.
