Coming back around to this interview after the recent release of "Mr. Morale and the Big Steppers" and Kendrick is truly a musical genius. He has a very Kubrick-like approach to crafting music as he's specific, detailed, and obsessive with every minute aspect of each project.
It’s interesting because he says he wants to always be the best in this interview but I think now. He feels more comfortable letting someone else take the crown then always feeling like he has to be the people’s savior and champion
Me too. I'm surprised and saddened the interviewer didn't bring it up. Too much focus on the Eminem angle. Obviously there's the Compton link, but I'd love to know where Andre sits in Kendrick's influences. I here so many similarities between the two. The sensitivity, sensuality and then the anger and the fear. Huge respect to both of these greats.

Watching this now is a bit funny. He won't talk about certain things because the reverse tracklist was coming. To reveal a new perspective. This is something I've enjoyed seeing theorized with Tool in the past but they intentionally did with their last album Fear Inoculum.
