Thank you thank you thank you for this design. I have adhd, and this has become an essential "can't leave the house without" item. I first made it with cotton yarn because it was the only stuff I had on hand, but it made a project just small enough to flip one handed with ease, so I use it while I'm driving long distances. (Of course if traffic picks up and I need to drive extra careful, I just loop it around my thumb and can drive with both hands no problem.) I made one for my grandma with anxiety and she uses it regularly, too. Truly my favorite thing in the world.
I don't know anything about these, but my husband has a friend at work that loves them and I think they would get a kick out of having 1 like this home made and a 1 of a kind! Thank you for sharing this :)
It took me a wee while to get the first section right and work out where to start the second section, but I soon got the hang of it. I was really pleased with myself when I'd finished. Thank you 💖
The third one should be like the first. You keep building each on top of the last one, and at the end of each you create the final shape by closing the tube at a 90 degree angle from the previous one.
Hats off from Finland for this lovely pattern! It’s almost Christmas 2024 when I write this, so I would also like to wish you Happy Holidays at the same time and best wishes for the new year to come!
That's awesome! The making some for yourself part, not the losing part, I know what that feels like. But then when you find one under the couch, free fidget toy?
This is amazing, i made one as a gift but i really need to make one for myself too because i physically can't stop flipping it, it's so satisfying 👌👌 thank you for the pattern!

Thanks! That's awesome, I hope they have a lot of fun with this toy. There are more similar shapes you can explore as well, although we don't have crochet patterns for them yet.
@@camillalourenco5758 I ended up having 7 rows in each pyramid 😅So make sure it’s 6. Also I made one using bernat blanket yarn and it was to thick of a yarn and just didn’t look right. Make sure it’s a thinner size 6 weight like parfait chunky turns out great. I also use size 5 weight yarn and turns out great too.
I've just made the last stitch. I didn't have that kind of yarn, so I tried cotton and rice to fill because I did not have the stuffing. But it turned out beautiful, thank you for such a clear tutorial. Greetings from Argentina
@@YarnAndy it doesn't make any sounds , I think it's a bit smaller than the one you made. The feeling to the touch is nice though. But I don't think filling it with rice is good if the toy is going to be washed ... I just couldn't wait to make it ,so I used the material I had ,and I loved it! I'll make nicer ones. I posted a reel on Instagram with the toy and tagged you.
@@YarnAndy absolutely! My daughter is a tiny 9 - I’m using Catania by Schachenmayr, it’s cotton but with a nice sheen to it - I had some leftover from some other projects - I like the softness of the velvet yarn for myself, but I think the sport weight cotton will add a soft, bumpy, rougher texture to the sensory aspect - my daughter has high anxiety in any social situ’s and her go to is to finger the seams of her shirts until her shirts are either ripped up the side or the cuffs are ripping right off of sweatshirts… I’m forever trying to find something she can finger without ruining her clothes - this might just work!! Thank you once again!!!
Sure, you can use different kinds of yarn, but maybe something that doesn't stretch out. I'm not sure about milk cotton, give it a try. Maybe put it in two if it's thin, otherwise you'll end up with a tiny toy.
I just used 2 strands of sports weight acrylic yarn. It works fine. I am sure you can use whatever you like. Just remember the thickness of the yarn and the size of the hook will determine how big it will be.
I enjoyed the pattern but when I made my first one, the hole in the middle came out a lot bigger than yours. The mechanism still works fine but the large hole distracts me, do you know what I could have done wrong? Is there any way to fix it? Thanks :)
Hm, did you overstuff the pyramids? I think I did that in my first few samples (see the fails video th-cam.com/video/SCUjDxyia2U/w-d-xo.html) and that's why the gap came out too big. You need a very small amount of stuffing. The gap might also come out big if you make too many rows, by not counting correctly. The way to fix either of these errors is to make another one, since frogging chenille messes up the yarn. I use the bad flexagons as pin and hook cushions.
@@YarnAndy I was thinking that as well, i made another with less stuffing and the hole was smaller but still a bit big for my liking though I added barely any stuffing. Would it work with no stuffing at all since I seem unable to get the right amount? (thanks for responding btw)
@purpanimation no idea, honestly. After figuring out the row counts and the stuffing, it worked well for me. I can't say more without at least a photo.
I can't tell without a photo. If you overstuff the sections, you'll also get the toy to be rounder. If your tension is too loose, that might also make the toy floppy.
It will work, but with thinner yarn you'll get a smaller toy. With thicker yarn, a bigger toy. Make one pyramid with your chosen yarn/hook combination and see.
Nope, any yarn works, just make sure you have good tension, like for any amigurumi. So choose the hook size that gives you no holes. Thinner yarn will make a smaller toy, though you could adapt the stitch counts as well (you need to experiment with that).
The stitch counts are calculated to give a 90 degree turn after every pyramid. If you change that, you might get a different type of toy. I can't say what the issue is without at least a photo of the project.
There actually wasn't an issue 😂 just me second guessing myself 😅 it turned out perfect and absolutely amazing!! Thank you for the quick response and thank you for the pattern!!
You probably just turned the work inside-out when starting. While you are still making the first part, you can turn it right side out, otherwise you won't be able to continue. Just push the starting row through the tube.
Could you go a little slower to show how you are sewing up the final stitches? I love the tutorial and will try it soon, it’s different and unique. Good job.
Thank you for your feedback! Based on several people telling me that they'd prefer slower versions of my video tutorials, I decided to offer that in a Patreon. I'll upload videos with minimal editing and no fast-forward on repetitive bits and this one is the first. You can find it here: www.patreon.com/Yarnandy You also get one free PDF pattern per month and ad-free versions of all new tutorials.
I'm confused about how you're getting a diagonal look when you crochet; I'm getting a square look. Additionally, mine looks WAY bigger than yours. I'm clearly doing something wrong.
Not sure what you mean by diagonal. Do you mean the x shape of the stitches? Yarn under, yarn over technique. As for size, what yarn are you using? Mine is chunky, 120 meters per 100 g. Which hook size? What kind of tension do you have? It all plays a role.
I'm sorry for that. Which part gives you trouble? If you have the pyramids built up and can't figure out how to fold the toy, play with it a little and it will fall into place naturally. If the pyramids are overstuffed, this won't work, they need to have flat faces.
one of the best stress/anxiety relieving toys ive found online for crochet, thanks for the wonderful pattern!!
Thank you! I really appreciate this! It helps when you design something based on your own needs 😁
This is awesone. Thank you for not taking 45 minutes to show it. I appreciate the fast forward.

It takes a bit of practice and patience, but I'm glad you got it!
I’m really struggling with the second section 😂 How did you figure it out???
What exactly is the issue? Starting? Finding the loops to work into? It might help to put stitch markers in all the loops, so you don't miss one.
@@YarnAndy I’m struggling with the third pyramid and which direction it should be facing

Give it a try, see how it looks. The proportions are not the same, so it might not work as well.

Chain 9. It is in the instructions, right at the beginning of the Row 1 section that starts at 1:58.
