- Navigating having a kitten while living alone in NYC has taught me so much and has been the greatest gift. So much goes into deciding when it's time to take the leap, and making these choices based on what will give my cat the best life, even if I'm not quite ready yet. I am so so excited AND SCARED to expand the cat family!! Please note that I am learning as I go, if you want the best cat advice, check out Jackson Galaxy or The Kitten Lady on youtube. Hi friends! Back with the highly requested cat content along with ANOTHER surprise 🐱🐱I feel like y'all maybe saw this coming though. Separately, last night was the Offline event IRL!!! We had such a great turnout and I truly had THE BEST TIME getting to meet everyone!! Seriously, y'all were so warm and kind and thoughtful and sweet, I am so grateful to everyone that was able to come out ❤ Your support means the world. It made so darn tooting happy when you said you’d foster the cat!! Yay!!!! You’ll fall in love and keep him or her. And don’t be surprised if it takes a while to have them get along. But they’re so young that they’ll love playing with each other. And they’ll have company when you’re out. You’re apt is def big enough for two cats. Trust me - 2 cats will bring you double the joy!!!!
So happy for you!! I have had so many kitties and last year I got a little boy 6 weeks old and two weeks later I got a little girl who was about 10 weeks I brought her put her on the bed and he made a couple of little growls but he loved her immediately it’s like they are brother and sister but not even the same litter! Not saying every kitty will immediately be okay with each other but I think the younger they are it’s easier! They will have different personalities and it’s so much fun experiencing that …you will be a happy family of three sometimes when you are least expecting it a sweet baby kitty comes into life and unconditionally loves you it’s the best feeling x two! Just loving them back is all you really need to know…😊
Adopting a second kitten is the best decision! It might seem like having two will make your life harder, but in my experience having two cats grow up together, play together, and keep each other company will make things easier and happier for all of you. Yay!
I second this! I REGRET not getting two together when I got my first cat…the shelter tried convincing me to adopt my girls sister and I said no in fear of it being too much to handle. Instead I waited two years and although I love my girl, she was ALOT to deal with and that’s because she was alone all day and just wanted to play with someone. Once I got my boy, she calmed down IMMEDIATELY and I no longer dealt with torn up carpet, chewed up plants and having my toes attacked at night. So this was a great decision on your part. It actually makes it easier to raise them as kittens lol.
Third! If you have the resources, it's so , so good for them to have a feline friend. I have a16 year old cat and wish I had given her siblings a long, long time ago. A year ago I rescued two siblings from my neighbors carport and they're thick as thieves. She tolerates them and wonders why they're there but thankfully they leave her be. Also, you're doing a wonderful job, so don't doubt that. The life you're giving them is far superior than what the alternative would be.
Fourth this! I adopted two kittens (brother and sister) four years ago and I’m so happy I did. I know it seems like a lot at the beginning but once everyone settles into a routine, it’ll be like there was always meant to be two babies in your life.
Fifth, you won’t have to worry about leaving Gordo alone when you go out because now he’ll have company. They may be standoffish at first, but they will get used to one another in no time.
Sixth 😅 I agree! We took on a sibling duo (brother and sister) and they are 5 this year. It was so good taking two on at the same time as kittens. They are the best of friends, keep each other company and warm when we can't 🤗♥️
I'm a dog person (dog mama) but the sound of a kitten's purr MUST be good for lowering blood pressure and stress. Somebody should study that! 🌟😆

They say the frequency of purring right next to you helps increase bone density , & tons more ! Crazy , right ?
They did! Apparently cat purrs actually help when you are sick/are healing!
And cats seem to know this and will actually seek their (sick) owners out!
I am.more of a dog person myself (although I had cats most of my life), but I always said there should be an animal that wags their tails like a dog and purrs like a cat!
They have studied it a lot. It's one of the many reasons why I'm a dog AND cat person. They each give to me something unique that only each of them can bring because they are a dog or a cat. I can't choose. I must have both.

Hey Chelsey! You are definitely doing the right thing. I adopted brother and sister kittens almost a year ago. It was the best decision for them and me. It feels like more work at first but it works out and it’s no big deal. The bond they will have is awesome! I’m so excited for you and them! 💕. I can’t wait to see the baby! Calico’s are the best! I had one years ago and she was my very best friend. 😻
It makes so much sense Chelsea!! I was the same, I have had my dog for 2.5yrs now, I was so hesitant and my mum got him for me, and I love the bones of him now, it worked out perfect, I was uncomfortable with the idea but so happy someone else nudged me in the animal mum direction. I am now in my late 30's, work is good, dog mum life is great...I have never looked at kids and known that's what I want, I have never had the urge to be a mum to humans... and I am way past wanting a partner, I did up until my early 30's but am now far too independent and love my easy life. So it is NOT strange Chelsea, it is actually so normal, so many woman feel the same as you.
They’ll share the toys and the litter boxes. I can’t wait to see the new kitty.
Don't worry about screwing up. Live your life to the fullest and things will work out. Life happens, good and bad and you have to deal with it. Sometimes the best path is to forge ahead and just deal with what happens. I wish you all the luck in the world and keep pushing yourself. Failure occurs and it is a learning experience so don't be afraid of it
Great decision! Our kitten also needed a sibling and he just loved it. His new big brother also liked it, a little annoyed with his baby energy but today they’re best friends!

Hi Chelsea, don’t overthink getting another kitten, believe it or not two kittens or cats are easier than one, they’re company for each other , just do it. I loved your chat about having a partner, you’re a strong independent woman, be proud of yourself, just let life happen, you’re beautiful inside and out ❤❤
You only need the one litter box for the two cats. You just need to clean it out more often.

It is liberating being alone but it gets to a point where you get too used to being alone. I have two cats - brothers - they give and take each other..... you are very brave taking in another cat but it will be very loved
I have 3 rescue cats in an apartment. It works great. They have all just claimed their spaces.

My cat Macy Grey, passed in October of last year.. ( My third) Lately we have two cats coming to the yard every day. One is very stand offish and won't let you pick her up. She just comes for the food and water that is put out for her. The other jumps through the hole in the screen multiple times a day for food, cuddles and a nap, then goes to the door when she wants out. Today Mr. Stand offish decided to jump through the screen, take a look around and go back out. I was so happy. I believe they have owners because they both look well fed and groomed. We named them anyway, one is Smoke and the other is Dozer. Just living their best cat lives. Good on you Chelsea for taking in the second kitty.❤
I was in the exact same boat two years ago. I adopted one and then a month later got another. I was in a small apartment till their first birthdays and it was always plenty of space.. and they are so much happier with each other. I also understand the sudden responsibility overwhelm but I promise you’ll be so proud in another few months.
Also, I bought a house when they were a year old which was another level of overwhelm. But as I was contemplating the house idea before I had the kittens - my brother in law had the best advice about the house but it totallyyyy applied to the cats too. The first year is the hardest and then it gets easier. Knowing it won’t be hard/scary forever.

We can really see that you are happy and getting Gordo his other family that's great. I am allergic for cats and a dog-mama and maternal feelings can be different and you do not need to have children. I lost a child and couldn't conceive and how pets can give you so much love and joy. Love your vlogs even though you are 23 years younger than me but it's realistic. Keep making them and we can not wait for the next vlog.

For most of my adult years (the 40 after my twenties) I have had one golden retriever and two cats. I would continually fill the slots with new pets, but on the occasions I adopted a kitten who happened to be the only feline in the house. I’ve found they bonded with the human much more. These last 10 years two rescues have been very good buddies to one another, but I am merely the provider of food, shelter and healthcare to them. Tragically I lost one in March and the remaining female is bonding with me and seeking out a lot of affection. Gotta say I love it.
Your new kitty is going to get along fine with her brother. Sometimes it takes two days and sometimes it takes two months but it will happen. Don’t get frustrated and don’t give up. Your apartment is plenty big enough for the two cats. I have a similar size apartment and two 18lb cats. I really feel that having kitties is so helpful when you have depression. Knowing that you need to take care of them is the biggest reason to get out of bed in the morning and get on with life. Just try to spend less time worrying about what could go wrong and more time appreciating what is going right. The kitty distribution system knew it was the perfect time for you to become a cat mama, you got this!
They are always good company with each other. I had two, and since I traveled a lot. I felt better leaving them for a few days.

I'm so happy you decided to get a second kitten. I also get that this might feel very overwhelming and you seriously thinking about what would be if you are in not as a good place mentally as you are now shows me that you are really responsible and with the best for your animals in mind.
My cat (I was the the one who's cat died recently...honestly your video came to the exact right time because missing her really hurt today and seing Gordo was so nice) was my rock when I was not well and even in my darkest hours I managed to do everything necessairy to tend to her needs and she was there for me and improved my mental health so much. Love for your animals can do magic things.

When I read the title, the gasp I gasped.. and then when you said (s)he is a CALICO!! I have a fluffy baby that just turned one and a calico 🥲🥲 honestly in my experience, once you have one cat, transitioning to 2 is easy as long as you are financially prepared for any possible vet visits - other than that, the adjustment isn't too bad. My older cat didn't take super well to our baby but it still was fine, and now she licks his little head in between smacks hahah ❤️ IM SO EXCITED FOR YOU!

We have two brother cats and they're so happy together. I'm so glad they have each other and they entertain each other and me and my husband. 😂
i had 3 cats in less than 400 sqft apartment from the time they were kittens until they were 4 and they were perfectly fine. we're in a much much larger apartment now and they still mostly just stick to one room. get the second cat!!! ::) it's also much easier to have two cats then one! they really keep each other company.

This is awesome news! And yes, if it’s a calico, it’s 99% likely to be a female because of their chromosomes. So happy for all 3 of you!!! Kittens adapt really easily so I imagine they’ll be thick as thieves in no time! ❤❤❤

I am grateful you came to this conclusion😊 they will be so happy, and while it might make you a bit crazy it'll be so much fun. I've always had my cat in pairs. Just make sure it doesn't have flv markers. And a sibling is a good choice. The togetherness makes their immune system stronger. Thank you for this video Chelsea. I was so enraged, angry, and upset about something, and this totally helped take my mood off the ledge. So see, your videos being so relaxed are also theraputic. Yep Cali's are girls and that's great because you don't want male competition marking. If you can get them "fixed" at the same time, so they have forced down time at the same time, it helps them integrate smoothly. And your partner attitude is spot on! When you are whole and happy in your life you'll attract happy and whole, lol and no cat hating men.😅 I am so excited for you! Gordo is gorgeous, and funny. Amazing news and I totally get it. The emotionally part. I put my dog to sleep for ever next week. Dementia is kicking in hard with 15 years. I'm 35. He is with my adult life. My first big money decision. Now I let him go before it gets totally worse.

Cat tip incase you weren’t aware, I didn’t realize until about a year after I got my cats, litter boxes attract bugs! That could be why you saw a roach for the first time in your new place.
It sucks but so worth it. I get a SWARM of ants every summer and it’s so hard to find a cat friendly bug trap
Congrats! Get vet insurance while they're little! It's well worth it. I have one just exactly their age. (Also five others but that's another story whoops!) :)

Chelsea! I had two cats in a studio apartment. We all lived our best lives together. They didn’t care where we lived. They just knew they were happy, loved and cared for. No McMansion needed 😘❤️🫶🏽.

This is where I'm at right now in my 30's looking around at all the things that just keep getting further out of reach with inflation. I know I need to try to leave my comfort zone to even stand a chance but the odds don't feel in my favor and I'm so tired already. But anyway, I really appreciate these videos where you're so open about your struggles.

Congratulations on making the decision to adopt one of Gordo’s siblings. I adopted a one-year old orange cat 8 years ago. Copper had been found on the side of a road with his ribs kicked in. Vet guessed his ribs were broken courtesy of the toe from a steel-toed boot and he was left to die. Whoever found Copper and brought him to the animal shelter is a hero. And those who nursed Copper back to health are heroes. Copper arrived in my home with some serious mental health issues. But he was also very intelligent; I could see the intelligence in his eyes and noted it frequently from reactions to words I spoke. He was no dummy. I respected his need for space and felt honored when he would sit a “little” closer, start to take an interest in household activities. It likely took him close to a year before I heard him purr. Now a days he’s a frequent visitor on my lap; appreciates a good snuggle from time to time; doesn’t run when it’s time to get his fur brushed; and he definitely lets me know when its time for a snack.

Chelsea! I’m so happy you did this cause it’s the best decision for gordo. I have two cats and we lived alone in a studio before moving to NYC this past June with my bf and his cat and the space is just fine then and even now! Honestly I LOVE having two cats cause it feels more like a family and I love how they bond and keep each other entertained. Honestly having two children fills the room more with love. Please if you ever need tips on raising cats let me know! I have a ton!

Adopting my cat Gideon led to a drastic improvement of my mental health. LOVE THIS! I volunteer at a no-kill cat shelter and have helped counsel potential adopters who are only interested in one kitten. Two kittens is ALWAYS better than one!
