    The best advice I could give a newly self-employed person is that you should get a routine: wake up every day at the same time, eat at the same times as if you were working for a company, dress up every day and most of all, keep your house clean and clutter free... Kisses!!

    • @shannong7556
      @shannong7556 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Yes !
      My father was self employed and had an office built on the back of the house. He got up early, showered and dressed nicely everyday. Then if clients came by unexpectedly, he was always ready and being productive.

      @elise6346 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Yes ! I can't be as productive when I stay in my pajamas 😂 People tend to be amused when I explain I still wake up around 6 and keep my routine but it definitely makes a difference in my productivity.

    I was a university lecturer before making the jump into a FT author life. Now I write what I love and I have the best life. You are going to do great just as long as you give yourself 'thinking' breaks. It's too easy to let tasks that feel work-like fill the whole day. Creativity is like a sourdough starter. Give it time, some space of its own, and plenty of rest. (BTW, failure can be part of a good process -- I made a loss in my first year, and was glad of my savings. Each year since has been profitable in multiple ways.)
    My main advice: Enjoy!

    I moved to RURAL Japan (closest town over 100,000 people was 2 hours away) without knowing anyone and having a tenuous grasp of the language at best. It was tough and I would do so many things different but I am so so so glad I did it. I made lifelong friends, grew massively as a person, and even met my husband there. Taking risks doesn't have to be all good or all bad, sometimes you can just be grateful that you did it.

    • @naazahs9045
      @naazahs9045 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      That must've taken some serious "balls". Did you move alone ? And what exactly led you to moving out so far away ( I'm assuming you moved from the U.S ) ?

    • @deedeelong9043
      @deedeelong9043 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@naazahs9045 I actually moved from Canada but it's pretty much the same difference distance wise! I was alone personally but I was also working with a company that made sure I was set up with an apartment so I didn't navigate that on my own. I always told people I did it because it was a childhood dream but the truth is more that I needed a reset in my life. I started working professionally (think high rise office buildings, having "clients", that sort of thing) quite young and was burnt out by 24. I knew a bit of Japanese from high school classes so I decided to jump ship and give it a go.

    I worked for myself for 15 years in the creative field, you need to set some time aside for yourself everyday as you can easily burn yourself out again. I used to take a walk through my neighbourhood before I would start work everyday in the early mornings for about 30 to 45 mins, and then take another break in the afternoon for about 45-60 mins and get out of the house. You have to do this religiously, it helps break up your day and creatively it gives you a break and refreshes you.

    I remember when I use to teach before I became a therapist. I would have 2 1/2 months off from work. My skin looked better, my stomach bloating went away, and I was undeniably the happiest I had ever been. Zero stress and anxiety. Now I have an extremely stressful job that’s super high demand and mentally exhausting. I often think about the “old days” and how much better my mental health was. I envy you! You deserve it ! I myself picked up my belongings 8 years ago and moved from Los Angeles to San Diego, it was scary leaving a place I always knew and didn't know ANYone here. Fast forward to today, it was the best decision I ever made. It is never perfect but life is so much better and the quality. I went from working in the Real Estate industry to a corporate job for a non-profit that I love and fortunately do not have the stress you did at yours. I have been following you for quite some time and love this for you. You truly embody a single gal with no kids, who is normal, not fake or trying to prove anything, being independent and making her way, and I relate to this fully. Being a 37 year old woman, it's refreshing. Thank you for continuing to make videos and be a light Chelsea. As you grow, make sure to start a PO Box so your followers can send you small gifts :) Cheers to growth, success and finding your happiness. It's an adjustment period so give yourself some grace. Establishing yourself takes time. I started over at 43--quit my job, sold my house, left my marriage, moved 500 miles away. Did it work out perfectly? NOPE! Am I glad I did it? 100%. If my only takeaway from it was proving to myself what I'm capable of ... well, that's enough for me.
    Also: loved the Sinatra-pancakes montage!

I had experience with modeling and in late 2015 I was in contact with Capcom about the facial likeness role of Leon for the Resident Evil 2 Remake. Don’t feel nervous about this new venture you’re on. The hardest part is already past and that’s the foundation you spend the precious three years building (knowing how to make your videos and obtaining a reasonable audience). It will only continue to grow from here! The fact that you’re at a point now where you can make ends meet just through your channel is a solid sign that you’re okay.
    Keep finding ways to grow your audience. Maybe it’s through algorithms or maybe it’s as much as updating cameras, editing, hand rigs, sound, or finding additional untapped markets or ideas. Routine segments that capture interests. Stuff like that.
    Because there are three aspects that keep your channel interesting:
    - Viewers want to know who YOU are;
    - Viewers want to know what it’s like to live in New York City;
    - And Viewers want to know ABOUT the city (places to visit, food to eat, culture, architecture, history, etc).
    Just keep finding ways to hit those points and you’ll be good!

    I restarted this year as well. I quit my corporate job because I wasn’t happy. I didn’t have time and it caused anxiety. I needed to step out of my comfort zone and restart. I moved out and started working in retail. The money isn’t great and I work hard at weird hours. Though, I am much better. I have more time and no longer feel anxious. I wanna do something for myself, and grow within my new career. It’s still scary sometimes, but sometimes I get reminders that it was the right decision and you need to do what feels right for YOU. Sometimes, I get self conscious that people my age ( mid 30s) have it all figured out; they have high positions in fancy jobs, kids, properties and an amazing salary while I’m still figuring out my path and sometimes struggle to save. I try to not let those things get to me and just dance to my own rhythm of my unique song ( life). We all struggle, you will be ok ❤️

    I just subscribed to your channel. I’m turning 65 early next year but when I was 30 years old I moved by myself to the Bay Area (down the peninsula-Palo Alto) and began a new life. So your story is somewhat relatable (Lordy I wish there was internet then🙄)… I love supporting young women who take chances. I feel strongly I may have been a content creator and/or the like if that had been available at the time. I took many chances. Eventually I met and married a man whom I was with for 21 years. I have three 20-something kids who live in Southern California and I’ve relocated (10 years divorced) to New York State (not NYC area). You absolutely must do what your heart dictates! Do not always follow your head and follow the safe route. “The road less traveled…” is the one that fulfills us the most. You have made the right decision. Do well and keep going. It will be the “making” of you. All best, Sarah☺️🙏🏻🙏🏻

    I worked in pharmacy here in Australia for almost 20yrs, from when I was 17.
    After leaving the industry and being able to stay home looking after the kids, house, our acreage, animals and garden full time, I was approached by a local who wanted me to clean her home for her fortnightly.
    Then that one client changed to two clients, and then I realised I actually really love cleaning other people's homes and decided to do it permanently.
    I'm now a solo cleaner for approx 16 clients that I rotate over 2 weeks.
    Never, ever did I think this is what I would do for work. But after almost 2 decades of working in Pharmacy, I'm loving less responsibility, more flexibility, better pay and working on my own and for myself.
    Being a mum of 3 kids, it's exactly what I need! Flexibility to work hours that suit my life 🤗
    I'm so happy for you Chelsea! You'll love this shift in your life.
    Lots of love from Australia xx

      You don’t have to be employed to have health insurance here but you lose the employer paying a portion of your premium as a benefit of working for them. In this country it’s offered as an employer paid benefit to add to your overall compensation. I don’t see what’s strange about that. Medical care is expensive and someone needs to pay for it. If people want to quit their jobs and do TH-cam for a living they lose the benefits their company offered them. TH-cam provides cash now but zero benefits. None. I don’t understand how people think it worth quitting their actual jobs for.

Where do you think the money comes from? It’s not free.

    My big leap into the unknown was switching my jobs up! I graduated as a nurse, and I thought I'd always be bedside but after a year in the OR, I knew I needed a change. So I found a position as a clinical research nurse which is wildly different than actual bedside nursing. Literally, I had NO idea what the job entailed but the change just felt right. However, no one agreed with me. Everyone said that the job would be awful, boring, or even that I wouldn't get it. Guess what? I got the job and it was life changing for me! I found a whole new niche that I absolutely loved and finally I had a career ladder that I could climb. Ok, so, I'm not finished with the video yet, but you just asked for stories about taking a big risk....
    I worked as a Veterinary Assistant for 19 years. It's pretty much all I knew and all I wanted to continue to do. I left my friends and family in one state and moved to another state with 2 Veterinarians who were buying a new clinic there. I adored them, and kinda wanted to get out of the area where I was, so I did it. At first it was wonderful. I went from working at a corporate owned Vet clinic in a big city, to a privately owned clinic in a small town. I loved it! And I continued to love it for the next 12 years, or, I thought I did. The stress of not only being a Veterinarian but also owning your own business began to take its toll on the doctors, and I got the brunt of their anger and stress. It slowly became a toxic work environment, and my body was falling apart. After being yelled at like I was one of their children, I had enough and put in my notice. But, I had no other job lined up. They didn't like that I put in my notice and fired me instead. Now I had no income at all, and needed to find another job ASAP. My poor body was suffering after decades of physical work. I really wanted a work from home job - one in Veterinary Hospice. That was my dream job. I didn't get it. Or any of the other 10 plus jobs I applied for over the next month or so. I went almost 2 months with no job, living on savings, until I finally applied for a work from home job in a completely different industry. I got it, but I just told myself it would be until I could get my dream Veterinary Work From Home job. Well, 1 year and 10 months later, I've gotten a promotion and now do nothing but read emails and file claims all day, while wearing PJ's and listening to music. I get regular raises and insane amounts of PTO. It's almost like I"m retired. IT'S A DREAM. Who knew??? This is the healthiest job I've ever had, mentally, with the best pay and benefits. Changing your career in your 40's is scary, but the thought of continuing to suffer at a toxic job that was continuing to destroy my body and mind was scarier!

I hadn't realized I wasn't subscribed until today, but I look forward to continuing to watch your content! :)

    I also love the idea for you of moving the living room to your current bedroom space! It will give you so much more flexibility for furniture options and layout! Also- I think a mirror in your current living room along that large wall parallel from the kitchen window would be awesome- it could help bounce that light around! Sorry for the unsolicited advice, I just love to decorate so much 😂😊.

Your new direction in the TH-cam world will take time and I think you’re showing how most people feel after jumping in the deep end! This is awesome news and I'm very happy for you!! Your channel popped into my feed a little over a week ago, where the first video that I saw was your "The MOST REALISTIC..... or money back" vlog from a year ago. I have been watching each of your videos in order from that video on and I got to this video last night. While it's not good to see someone struggle, it's been, I guess, refreshing(not sure if proper choice of words, 🙂) to see real life and not the perfect life most try to portray on the Internet. I made some life changes about 10 years ago when life threw a curveball at me and it was the greatest change/decision that I made. I look forward to your future videos, including the new one from today!! May your success continue on and your Channel grow!!

    I loved this video! You’re so happy. We’re all so happy for you. Don’t worry abt your schedule for a couple of weeks. Just be productive in SOME of the hours you’re awake and sleep/rest/relax. Girl, you are giving yourself and your body space to recover from a grueling couple of years. If you had a little girl/daughter that was crushing it as HARD as you have been, for as LONG as you have been, you’d let her come home and sleep and eat and sleep some more. And then when it was time to get going again, you’d want her to do it intentionally, not compulsively. Rest and self-care baby, that’s what your daughter needs right now! Also, enjoy some good TV - binge watch some stuff.❤

    I enjoyed your video! I understand the weirdness of being joyful of having all the time in the world to do what I want to do and yet have that same time just slip through my fingers. I have one suggestion for you -- every evening, write down one adult thing and three meaningful things to want to do tomorrow in a notebook (write this by hand, it helps you to internalize the tasks). For example, when I retired my one adult thing was something like balance my checkbook or clean the bathroom. My three meaningful things were (1) get up at 6am (I like to see the sunrise), (2) walk the dog (basic exercise task that is good for both me and my dog), and (3) make myself a healthy (1 protein and 2 veggie) meal (make enough for a day or two of leftovers). I find that when I set these goals, the rest of the day fell in place, and I started reaching my goals. After time, I found that the adult things don't change much (there are always things that need to be maintained) but some of my meaningful things had become habits so I no longer needed to list them (like waking up early and walking the dog) -- which left room to add new meaningful things like register for an art class, practice piano for 40 minutes, or read a fiction book for 30 minutes, etc. Be specific regarding these tasks/goals but not so rigid that they feel like work. Hope this helps.

    I did 5 years of active duty in the navy and then 6 years in the reserves (the unit I was attached to may of well been still active duty/full time with the workload that came with it.) I went to school during the reserves in pursuit of something in healthcare. Dude the amount of classes I failed bc of that damn unit was ridiculous. I’m freshly out of the Navy, and here I am finally getting a 3.0+ GPA for my first semester in the journey of becoming a PA! (Oh I’m also in my 30’s). It’s never too late to start, we all have our own timelines. Ik it’s hard, but try not to let society pressure get to you. This is scary but if you can afford this in NYC?! Psssh, you can definitely do this, girl. You just ran the NYC marathon!! What. A. BIG. Accomplishment!! New directions are scary, but being in our comfort zone is scarier.

    Back in 2017 I quit a job at a toxic workplace and wasn’t 100% sure what I was going to do but I started picking up some freelance gigs right away and ended up working part time and filling the rest of my time with freelance gigs. Dealing with the more admin side of things (like health insurance and taxes, etc.) isn’t my favorite thing but now I’m here 6, almost 7 years later, and the idea of going back to a traditional, full-time job comes to mind but I’m just not ready for that. I like the flexibility I have with the way work is set up right now. It has been stressful, but I think it’s more that I’ve made it more stressful than it needed to be. I totally relate to the anxiety you’re feeling and wanting this to work, because I was terrified that it wouldn’t. I don’t know what the future holds and maybe one day I’ll find myself back in a more traditional job but I love the work I do and seeing your anxiety reminds me how strong my anxiety was at the beginning. At the time I felt like it would be a miracle if I made it more than 4 or 5 years working this way and I definitely made it past that. :)

    Last year I moved out of my parents’ house to a city I’d never been to before (Edinburgh, over 400 miles from my hometown) with no plan, just a suitcase. I lived in hostels for a month while I searched for a basic job, and landed a minimum wage receptionist role. Then I moved into a cheap flatshare and started building a life. Now, a year later, I’ve landed my dream job in travel writing, moved into a much nicer place with an amazing friend I met here, am in love with this city and am so so happy!! I relate so much to your fear that you are making the wrong choices and choosing the wrong path because that’s how I felt back then. My best advice to my past self, and to you, is to trust your instincts! If you have that feeling that you can do something, believe it, because it’s true. Because I trusted myself and didn’t give up (even when my 50hr/week job made me miserable and my flat was freezing cold, mouldy and slowly collapsing) I was able to build a better life for myself in a city I chose to make my home. Also, gotten IS a word!! Rip all the past participles we are losing as English slowly homogenises

    apartment planning can be sooo fun but also so stressful and time-consuming. i've found that if i get a gut feeling about an item that i really like i should just pull the trigger and buy it, but if i have any hesitancy at all i should wait at least a day to sit on the idea of this piece in my space. ALSO: keep maple syrup in your fridge after opening it!! prevents it from going bad and helps it last at least 6-12 months 😊

    You need an exercise regiment that takes you outside every day for your own mental health, winter snow is coming and the want to go out will diminish very quickly. If you don't want to go stir crazy you need to get out even when it isn't for a specific task. One of the biggest problems with working from home is isolation, just remembered what it was like during COVID lockdowns.

    Chelsea! I found your channel about a month ago and I have really enjoyed following you! Especially through the marathon last week. I saw the marathon on the news that Saturday morning and I instantly thought and prayed for you! Eeeeeek! So proud of you and I barely know you! Then the job! Wow! You got this gf! Btw you inspired me to start running again, even tho it’s hard! Can you do a video on the running technics and training you used to get to and through the marathon?
    I perused a career in law, graduated from law school, failed the bar exam multiple time, then said forget this, it’s not meant to be! To no one’s surprise but my own, I struggle with my mental health through that process. However, that journey led me to pursue a career as a behavioral health therapist. 🤯 I am now a licensed clinical social worker who often uses my legal knowledge to help clients through their own mental health journeys. It’s been a long journey for me and this is not where I saw myself ten years ago but it has worked out for the better. I know I am way more fulfilled than I ever would have been practicing law. Don’t give up. Don’t be afraid to switch gears. Especially if you are spinning your wheels, stuck in one place. So proud of you. Keep it up!

But leading up to my resignation - woah! I was a mental wreck. Anxious, worried about their reaction, worried if it was the right thing etc. Total rumination central! Hahah….. I guess what I’m saying is It’s no wonder you’re exhausted. Plus you just ran the marathon. It’s YOUR time now. Chelsea, first of all, I love you and your videos. I discovered your channel 3 months ago while working a job I hated. TH-cam recommended it to me when I was watching vlogs from people who live in New York (I've been obsessed with this city since I was a teenager!!) and I've been watching all of your videos ever since. You being you and living your truth gives me hope and acceptance. I left that horrible job last month and decided to write full time - I've been writing things just for myself since I was 8 and now I've given myself the chance to make my dreams come true and write a book! You have been nothing but an inspiration to me and I will always be grateful for that. I recommend your channel to everyone I know!! Now, with you taking the risk and working for yourself, I love and support you even more. We are in this together!!! Big hug from Brazil
