Why do I block out the Mini-Map with annotations for Sub battle replays?
I block it out because the Mini-Map gives away who sent in the battle replay. And in most cases whoever sends in the battle replay wins the battle. So I block it to keep it a surprise :D

Javelins will kill sauron and any elephant type unit. when they throw, that's 79 high attack armor piercing shots gong in at once on one target.

I guessed mordor to win because of sauron and those spiders. I wanted gondor to win because they have always been my favourite faction. and I knew rhun would lose because when you dont get involved in a free for all you always get teamed up against so. Yh.

Apollo, Spearmen and Fountain Guard are no more better at killing trolls than sword wielding infantry since Trolls are counted as Heavy Infantry, not Heavy Cav. Sending spears is worse since spears get part of their stats from the "bonus versus Cav" stat and will have less overall attack & charge stat as a result compared to infantry of the same cost.
Edit: The best way to kill trolls is with units that have the "Good against Armor" stat. As trolls defense is made up of Armor and Defense skill with no shield. Any unit with that stat immediately halves the trolls armor value. Any Heavy Infantry unit with that stat is a superb troll killer.

If you can't do that, Fountain guard is still one of the best anti-troll units in the game. They have the ap trait, high attack and unlike regular infantry they have long weapons which means a lot more attacks going in at once.
+Pasan Etternavn Javs are great, all high missile attack troops are since trolls don't have shields. But they're low in number and most factions of middle earth don't have too many Jav units.
Fountain Guard are great, for the very reasons you described, but thats Fountain Guard being Fountain Guard, and it helps reinforce the misconception that spears are better against trolls the same way they are against Cav.

I knew Mordor had this battle the second Sauron's name appeared on the screen. You need to commit a solid chunk of your army to javelineers just to deal with him alone.

when you say "retreat", I am pretty sure you mean they are "falling back". Big difference.

And where exaxtly? Well, you can "retreat from a fight" or just retreat to a chokepoint. Or you can also say they fall back. In different languages like french and german it's similar. If they would flee, that would be a difference.
