every time i watch someone do this challenge, they always try to calculate their lives in a more complicated fashion than just using a death counter.
I am glad that it has been a family friendly channel for 7 years.

I'm going to wager you're talking about the pick a path level where he had no strategy, but I believe he should be allowed to skip these kind of levels outside of his skip counter anyway.

I think a death counter would be beneficial the next time you do one of these, so you don't have to die a bunch at each difficulty lol.
Barely 5 minutes in the video so I don't know if he succeeded or not but I feel a deathless challenge is almost impossible and extremely rage inducing. Also get Amanda her squishmallow 🤣
Iron Bros challenge is just 50 normal levels without dying and it's only been done once as far as I know. A full difficulty deathless would be insanity
@@xVDRx Ryukahr has been trying to get expert deathless(100-Mario) for months.
And he has done a just super expert with 1-ups ending back at 100 lives, but like once.

As I watched you picking pipes at random out of order, I kept thinking: The best way to do this is to just check each one sequentially, in order. (I also thought that earlier with the set if pipes at the start of the level.) What was discovered at 48:48 is the reason why. You were extremely unlucky, to be fair. But still, checking them in order avoids that unfortunate result.
Honestly, it was just a bullshit level.
My Mom isn't much for 'em, but my little sister (who also is a Mom to her own 2) absolutely loves those Squishmallow things.

... and that day, Dave learnt why you don't check 9 pipes in order 8, 3, 6, 1, 2, 3, 9, 3, 7, 1, 1, 4, 1, 3... and then give up, but you just go 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 -> and then find the exit, lol

picking pipes at random and not keeping track, then trying the same ones over and over again. The plan to success
The charm that was lost was the MarioPaint flair.
In the same vein as your "make your worst day your best day" ... One I like is, "You know, the WORST day you EVER had... HANDS down, the worst... was only 24 hours long."
PS: Pick-a-Paths suck. But if you would have done it systematically in order (front-to-back OR back-to-front || top-to-bottom OR bottom to top) you would have found all that eventually, and for far less lives lost... And you wouldn't have had to use up a skip either. Also... SOMEtimes (not this time) if there's a single stage prop (like that blue flower) on a whole arrangement of paths, that could be a marker for the dev-cheese.
Seeing the mystery mushroom took me for a loop for a sec. Thought is was smm2 😅

Agreed, if you do have to push the life counter down to what it was on the previous section, sure, but counting the extra lives should be fine. That said, ignoring 1ups means there's really no point in dying a bunch of times at the beginning of each section since the number is ignored anyway.

Sticking to the right on autoscrollers so he dies twice... skipping on an Expert level that just requires you to hold right and jump... Makes me rage.

This challenge would be better if you are given unlimited skips (that don't count against your 3) for levels that would generally require the level viewer to beat in a reasonable manner - i.e. pick a path, find the hidden block with the necessary item, etc.
It's just not entertaining to watch you struggle with pick a paths and search for blocks, though I might advise you follow a reasonable course in a pick a path so as to never die in the same place twice. ;-)
He could've easily saved 20ish lives if he had explored for hidden blocks before wasting lives on picking a path, and if he payed attention to the opening next to the saw instead of needing to pick all the paths a 2nd time, and if he had picked the 2nd path pipes methodically 1 by 1 in an organized fashion instead of randomly selecting one and not realizing he had skipped #5 and repeating wrong paths multiple times.
Sure there are some levels where it's just a 4-second 1 frame trick to finish that can munch through your lives until you get the timing perfect and there's nothing you can do about it, but he guzzled through so many lives just out of his own sheer bad choices on this level. There's no harm in pausing and studying everything on a screen to help you succeed in a challenge like this.
@@Milktube for me, I think the best way to describe it is if a level is in a high difficulty category because of luck instead of it being difficult because it requires skill are levels that should be allowed to be skipped. They aren't entertaining to watch and mess up his challenge. Sure, you can do things in a methodical way to save lives, but it is still incredibly boring for the player, the edited video viewer, and I sure hope the streamer is interesting just to listen to talk instead of to watch because it will be painful.

Dave for the sake of my sanity please answer me. Why do you kill Mario at the beginning of a new difficulty if you just get 1-ups and ask every 5 seconds “how many lives do I have” 😂just keep it at a 100 it’s the same difference

In my day squishmallows were just pillows that you get at Menards. Or stuffed animals that you get out of a rigged crane machine
45:00 also levels like this just "POW" me off, they're not creative, it's just like "I know the combination and you don't and you have to waste your time trying to figure it out". Like if you're going to do something like that at least make the deaths creative, like have a different death for each different wrong pipe but either way they're not even that creative, it's just stupid. Especially for the fact that most of the wrong decisions just lead to a softlock anyway. I like how Nintendo is busying themselves taking down levels that are actually fun to play and cool to check out and they don't look into levels like this, it just sucks.

Can someone explain the DGR logic to me because i dont understand. you choose to skip a level because you dont know the tech to do it yet you played a pick a pipe level that drained your lives. i would've risked it learning the tech, i got plenty of time and the amount of lives i would've lost was less and skip the pick a pipe path one.
