Dan I am a 60 year old guy and you and I have the same love of movies, movies, music and monsters. This channel has become one of my favorites over the 6 months or so. Each video you do gives me a great sense of nostalgia. We obviously loved the same things as kids. Lost in Space, Ark II, Planet of the Apes, Land of the Giants, Starlog magazine, etc. Here is a question for you... Any idea what happened to Hector the robot from Saturn 3? I'd love to see your take on that movie.
I had the good fortune of seeing Alien on the big screen in 1979. Seeing the trailer for The Empire Strikes Back playing before the film was an unexpected surprise!
This was my first R-rated movie. I was 13 at the time. This movie had the best trailer of all time. It gave almost nothing away. All we got was that glowing egg, bizarro shriek, about 20 seconds of lightning fast flashes and a fade to the tag line. We had no idea what to expect and when that thing popped out of Kane’s chest, we crapped our drawers! Genius! I never had an experience like this again.
I remember when this came out , it was when we had a movie explosion of GREAT pictures. It was a HUGE movie and talked about by everyone. Good times and for me I think it was the last best decade of great pictures… I am so glad you are making these video, keep them coming.
Alien and Jaws were ground breaking suspense/horror movies, and I loved them both. But I agree with you about not over exposing the creature. That's why those movies were just so scary to me. "Aliens" was fantastic excitement, but the aliens were now familiar and numerous, so they lose some of the scariness magic I think.
The eye sockets considerably reduce the horror aspect as it just looks too 'human' ..Im glad they filmed Alien with these hidden - it made it much scarier!
Irwin Allen must have been jealous, such a low budget but wow! Lol. I Remember seeing the premiere, and when the egg opened and the Alien flew to his face, a girl on the other side of the theater stood and screamed at the top of her lungs. The audience laughed. When I got home telling the story to my family, my sister put her hands over her face. It was her.what an awesome movie. Thanks Dan.
He's in his 50s now. Wondering where all the time went, noticing aches and pains, taking longer to stand, going "oooofff" whenever he sits down and telling all the younger aliens "I used to come here when it was all just planets"

Dude, are you kidding?!? THE preeminent horror movie of all time! Back in '79, most theaters had just one screen, and they were HUGE - 70mm, SurroundSound, bass throws, etc. ALIEN was at a particular theater like that for 8 months! Every showing had at least one Denver Paramedic van waiting outside for those who fainted at Kane's chest-bursting scene. I saw this icon 23 times (at $2.50 a pop), with sisters, brothers, friends, my now-wife (who asked me if we could leave after the egg opened to attack Kane.) My only gripe with "Aliens" was that the xenomorphs were being killed off like flies - this after Ash, in the original, told Ripley that they couldn't be killed - PHOOEY, I say! I do have the original toy still, with it's "squeeze head/ jaw eject" mechanism. There will NEVER be another like it, although "Prometheus" is close. Thanks for the close look, buddy - fantastic!! -- Steve
My favourite movie in the franchise. It messes with your head and still gives me the creeps, but on the plus side, made me a lifelong fan of Sigourney Weaver.

He didn't tell my mom, and let me sleep with my light on for a few nights, until I could get a grip on my terror.
Kane's son, the original xenomorph, got sucked out in space when Ripley opened the hatch, BUT it was still tethered to the hook gun, which was stuck to the hatch as it closed. The alien was never really blown away. The alien has been traveling with Ripley all along. It cocooned itself and survived space. It made it to Romulus. You can see its cocoon being pulled in a spaceship. And you can even see Ripley's lifeboat drifting away as the space station collides with the planet's rings. Look down and right in the frame.
I'm 57 years old and this movie still gives me nightmares. Such a classic. I got my "How cool is that" tshirt today, Dan. Gonna wear it at my gig next weekend.

Yep, I was 20 in ‘79. This movie scared me so bad, I felt physically ill from the tension and wanted to leave in the middle of the movie. Glad I stuck it out!
I have watched Alien countless times, and have seen many toys and artwork, and have never seen a hint of the translucent upper head showing a human like skull with eye sockets. The head always looked smooth, solid and dark like an insect's. I always thought it was odd it had no eyes, now it has sockets? Mandela Effect?
Been waiting for this video! I clearly remember seeing the Alien action figure at a store after the movie was released. I was 9 year old and just the toy freaked me out 😂. I wish I had purchased it back then.
H R Giger has a museum in Gruyere, Switzerland. (Yes, as in the cheese.) I say to people "I was this far from an Oscar ->
Hi Dan, I saw Alien when it was first released in 1979. The movie looked so realistic until the Alien was flung into space near the end. I was 10...And just like Jamie below; My first R rated film. A pair of buddies and I asked my parents to drive us to theater to watch a kids movie. We bought our tickets, and then snuck into Alien just in time. I was soo scared that I had to come clean to my dad , after we got home.
Is this true? Unbelievable
@@mindrover777 Two weeks to go!!!
I'm 57 years old and this movie still gives me nightmares. Such a classic. I got my "How cool is that" tshirt today, Dan. Gonna wear it at my gig next weekend.
The original Nostromo has a wonderful history … but that my friends, is a topic for another video.
I love the shuttle 'Narcissus', also called 'Miss Piggy', due to the snout. Neat ship design. 😎👍
just wanna know if the company ever billed Ripley for the loss of the ship and cargo :)

Great video! I’ll never forget finding the OG Kenner Alien action figure in-box at a goodwill back when I was kid. I wanted it so bad but thought my mom would say it was too expensive so I put it back. D’oh!
I’ve been to the Gieger museum in Gruyeres Switzerland several times. The Alien is the LEAST disturbing thing he has done…
Hi ! As you , it was a Stendhal syndrome when I saw for the 1st time the paints and designs of the ALIEN BIG SHAP in the Metal Hurlant special edition bought by my father back in 79. I was 10 and the nightmare never left me since this day . If I have a movie to watch in my dying bed , it's this one , well , Blade Runner too . These two master pieces are the fruit of magical times and outstanding genious Artists . Your vids Rocks man !
Classic...Sigourney Weaver in her underwear was well worth watching the whole movie...
Exactly! I was 16 and saw her on the big screen and fell in love... lol
She had great legs.
But why the child size panties? 🤔
When you put together stuff for a best of reel make sure this one gets on it Dan. Good research and presentation on this episode.
Yep, I was 20 in ‘79. This movie scared me so bad, I felt physically ill from the tension and wanted to leave in the middle of the movie. Glad I stuck it out!
Just watched the Alien 45th anniversary showing at my fav theater a few weeks ago and now, here you are talking about it! How Cool Is That?
I have watched Alien countless times, and have seen many toys and artwork, and have never seen a hint of the translucent upper head showing a human like skull with eye sockets. The head always looked smooth, solid and dark like an insect's. I always thought it was odd it had no eyes, now it has sockets? Mandela Effect?
Been waiting for this video! I clearly remember seeing the Alien action figure at a store after the movie was released. I was 9 year old and just the toy freaked me out 😂. I wish I had purchased it back then.
My mom loves sci fi and took me to see Alien when it came out in '79. I got a cool mom!
The feeling of dread in this movie was out of this world.
H R Giger has a museum in Gruyere, Switzerland. (Yes, as in the cheese.) The museum is in Le Petit Chateau, a smaller house in the middle of the walled town, as opposed to Le Grand Chateau which is part of the wall. And his Oscar from the movie is on display. I say to people "I was this far from an Oscar ->
The wicked witch from Wizard of Oz, the zombies from NOTLD & the Alien were my first 3 horrors introduced to my life. All 3 are still horror icons
Finally, a happy ending!! Iconic props NOT ending up in the trash bin or in some guy's basement!!
Another home-run video...Dan is batting these all out of the ball park! Good job!
How about what happened to the Colonial Marines APC from the movie "Aliens"!?
Ripley blew the trans axle- they threw it in the dumpster... lolz
I’ve seen the one at the museum it pop culture. I took a picture with it and told children it’s my pet.
Hands down Alien & Aliens is the best in the franchise
Hi Dan, I saw Alien when it was first released in 1979. The movie looked so realistic until the Alien was flung into space near the end. The water squirting from the engine reminded me of the song " Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head." The following line: "That doesn't bother me because I'll soon be dead."
It's first horror I saw because it's an unknown enemy my Mum suggested it and I loved it watched Aliens next day lol
