  • Gaming Pastime reviews Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes for PC.
    Developed by Kojima Productions and published by Konami, Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes was released for PC in December, 2014. Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes is only the appetizer before the main course but also a big improvement over its predecessors in many respects.

    Never forget, this game was $40 for a 10 minute story.

      It was $30 and had additional content besides the main mission.

      Did anyone force you to buy it?
      There was far more than a 10 minute (if you speed run it) story.

      It was $30 digital and $40 physical. Any person buying a game for the story is a fool because TH-cam exists.

      @konradfun Oh cool. 5 extra missions on the same small ass map. And no it was $40.

    i was never sure why they made Ground Zeros and the Phantom Pain two separate games. it would have more sense for them to make Ground Zeros a prologue to the Phantom Pain in the same game, like what they did in MGS3 with the virtuous mission and Operation Snake Eater. it just doesn't make sense for them to be two separate games, imo
    also it's a real shame they replaced David Hayter. Southerland does fine, but to me Hayter is so iconic as Snake, it's hard for me to really enjoy Southerland's performance. like you said, he doesn't have a lot of lines tho so i guess it's not a huge deal. from what i understand, Hayter is fairly bitter about being replaced; can't say i blame him
    i also 100% agree with you about the gameplay; Ground Zeros and Phantom Pain have the best gameplay of any MGS game, period. anyone who says differently is wearing nostalgia filters.

      You can make the argument for Ground Zeroes having the best gameplay in the series, i don't know if i agree with it or not but you can make it. You can't make it for Phantom Pain. Ground Zeroes actually has level design, mission design and meaningful objective in it's only mission. Gameplay is not just how the player character controls and feels to control. Also Ground Zeroes is not dumbed down to nothing in it's difficulty nor is it main gameplay loop about collecting different shades of the same Pokemon.

      Kojima said he wanted to release something because MGSV was taking so long and it was an experiment with trying out episodic content. He said ideally it would be one whole thing but I always felt the real reason was to make some money back because it was taking so long to release TPP.

      @@deathtoraiden2080 Ground Zeroes has very limited options and barely any variety - that's also important for gameplay. I like experimenting in games so that alone disqualifies it for me. The Phantom Pain felt liberating after how basic GZ was.
      It's a tutorial with one level that they stretched way beyond its real depth. As an overall package, it's just not very good. Easily the worst noteworthy MGS. *I really think most players should mostly mainline it to avoid letting it drag and jump into TPP.*
      It's true that people too often exclude level design from judgement of overall gameplay quality. I agree that it would be great if TTP had stronger level design (it would help it in my ranking within the series) but the gameplay is multiple times more fun than GZ for most people.
      I also don't think that GZ offering one large base actually amounts to fun level design. *There are a few bases in TTP that I found more fun, e.g. the base you rescue Huey from* (has enemies using Walker Gears).

      While Hayter is Snake, he did go off the deep end with his voice acting and would have made MGS 5 worse if he went the same direction. His voice on Peace Walker was laughably bad, at least MGS 4 he has the excuse he's playing a dying Solid Snake but why does Big Boss have to have laryngitis too?

    One thing Kojima has taught us is to not fully trust information the people in control of the narrative give you, we only hear what’s going on during the tapes but what if what we are thinking isn’t what’s actually happening , the best lies mix truth in them

    I did look up after beating it where the rest was. People were saying its over and the rest is side missions in the same area. Here in nzd it was $60. I was very angry and I will never get another Konami again unless its on deep discount. I immediately turned the game off and never played it again. Big rip off. Last time Kojima did a bait and switch we at least still got a game

    ARE you all for a story tackling serious and taboo subjects? Really? Because everything you say tells the exact opposite. Maybe you mean you are all for the subject being alluded to using sock puppets and pop-out illustrated books, the kind that does not tackle the subject at all and instead just uses the concept of it for cheap window dressing. You're gonna love MGSV, i can tell. Also you must have fallen asleep when you were playing MGS4 cause you apparently missed something much worse being tackled in that game, and that time it was actually tone deaf considering when it was happening and what you could do while it was happening.
    Ground Zeroes pretending MGSV was gonna have a story and tackle the taboo subjects it promised to is one of the things that almost makes you believe this was gonna be a MGS game, with a message to state.

    MGS 5 is the only MGS I've enjoyed playing. But even that wouldn't fit my all time favorite games. Controls are good for Kojima game. But game gets really, really repetitive fast. Then there's all the ridiculous sexist teen stuff by Kojima that just really doesn't fit the gameworld. Also the AI imo isn't even nearly as good as many say. They follow very similar action patterns almost all the time. Then the plot. Tbh imo it's absolute garbage.

    • @idakev
      @idakev 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      "Controls are good for Kojima game" What Kojima game didn't have great controls relative to the year of release? At most maybe OG MGS3 but then they added the new camera and even so, the controls and the overall game have aged a lot better than most games from 2004, with good gameplay depth too.
      MGS2 in 2001 was groundbreaking. Peace Walker has the best controls for a PSP game. MGS1 is one of the few PS1 games that isn't now awkward to play (e.g. Tomb Raider). MGS4 has very good controls ... Most of the MGS games are old now.

    • @jothain
      @jothain 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@idakevAll of them have horrible control schemes. Like mgs 1 and 2 have maybe the worst controls I've ever experienced. I remember struggling with them back then and few years ago I tried them and didn't even bother to play for more than 10mins. I can't think any titles with worse controls. I'll much rather play that TR than older mgs titles. Age isn't thing for me. I've played since late 80's

    I'm looking forward to your review on TPP, even if I don't envy the amount of time it might've taken. I always considered GZ and TPP one in the same with GZ as the demo for the 'full release'. I got it for free on PS+, but I'd be been very annoyed if I spent €30 on a demo. I will say, I quite like the Splinter Cell vibes GZ has though, more-so than TPP. Not sure why, maybe the setting or premise, but it reminds me of Chaos Theory.
