These guys are multiple Grammy winners, not just together, but also on their own. People are talking about Larnell Lewis, the drummer. He learned the music for this album on the plane ride over had a brief rehearsal and went into recording. He was a pinch drummer when their regular drummer had passport issues and couldn't make it.
@@iamsynthsam I'll check it out v. soon! Actually I just listened to an older reaction of it about an hour ago at work. I never get bored of it though 😁👍
Top tier musicians! I am hooked months ago. Their drummer is Larnell Lewis. He can learn a song by listening to it once. Try a smaller group of 3 named Dirty Loops ( has vocals)
Hey Sam, I'm so glad you opted to check out this tremendously talented band. It was formed by the bassist, Michael League, who also writes most of the tracks. Years ago, he was attending the University of North Texas and was unhappy with the selection of groups to play with, so made his own band. This session, where they played Lingus, is, indeed the album recording, clapping and all. They recorded over the course of several days, three or four times through, then cherry-picked the best versions of each song for the final product. Larnell Lewis, the drummer, was called, last-minute, to fill in for their usual guy. Lewis learned all of the drum parts, even wrote some, on the trans-Atlantic flight to Europe, where they recorded. He literally got off the plane, which obviously didn't have a kit on it, walked into the studio, had 2 hours to practice, then they recorded. Absolutely mental. Some of the tracks were even written hours before recording, from scratch! All of the solos are 100% improvised and are completely different every time. Corey Henry, that beast of a synth-player, made all of that up on the spot. These guys are on another level entirely. I'm glad you enjoyed! You might check out another song from this album called 'Sleeper'. It features their other synth-player, who also wrote the piece, on the talk box. Honestly, the whole album is fire, you'd enjoy all of it.
Thanks for all that information John, very cool insider knowledge! They truly are very talented... My girlfriend saw the video and told me "I didnt know you knew Snarky Puppy", i said. didnt... First subscriber request, so thank you haha. You are the second person to comment about checking out "Sleeper", so i will do that one next :)
The drummer Larnell Lewis learned this song on the flight over to the Netherlands where this was recorded.... not sure that helps with the sweat or not =)
Bear in mind the drummer Larnell Lewis learned the tracks for the ENTIRE ALBUM on the FLIGHT OVER!! SP’s usual drummer couldn’t maje the gig in Holland (where this was recorded) because of passport logistics. Larnell was a last minute substitute.
Synth you say!? Ok... here's a monster track featuring Allan Holdsworth playing SynthAxe 'guitar'. If you've never heard this then you're in for a huge treat. It's a performance packed with nuance and detail, with a 'feel' that is seemingly impossible to achieve using a keyboard controller. Looking forward to checking out your reaction if this track is unknown to you. Spokes (by Allan Holdsworth, from the album Secrets) th-cam.com/video/-AJEBUjNp8I/w-d-xo.html
Sure thing man :) Ill add it to my list and give you a shoutout! I literally just uploaded my reaction to "Sleeper" here --> th-cam.com/video/IFMYOlx5Msg/w-d-xo.html
I've watched this particular video once before, Sam. I have only one CONSTRUCTIVE criticism: your mic needs to be a bit lower in volume. Because every time you start talking you drowned out the music. And with Snarky Puppy I hate that. Just saying, man.
Hey! I honestly really really appreciate that feedback... as a fairly novice youtuber, its comments like this that truly make me better, i thank you for telling me :)
What About Me is also incredible! Larnell has an awesome drum part and the guitar is highlighted. Snarky Puppy is the real deal!

Considering that the guys who put down his headphones won five Emmys, Corey‘s solo can‘t be that bad ;)
neat. Think you'll dig "sleeper" from the same session also (the other synth player plays his hosepipe ;-))
Thanks for the suggestion Miff, ill add it to my list and give you a shoutout when it drops, thank you :)
Hey Miff, i have the video for "Sleeper" all ready for you, thanks for the suggestion :)

Other Snarky Puppy tracks with synth stuff are: Thing of Gold, The Curtain (with a full orchestra), Flood
There are like 7 keyboards ... one piano, a rhodes, a few mini-moog like things and some other more modern synths.
