Weird how our legal system is starting to crack down on patent trolling, but copyright trolling is alive and well. "You can't give that away, we own it." "Are you trying to suppress it because it hurts your brand image?" "No, we're still proud of it." "OK, please let people pay you money for it." "No." "..." Fortunately a lot of companies are _finally_ wising up. I wish Nintendo cracked down on emulation a little sooner than _fifteen years_ before they started selling their back catalogue.
@@Sky_Blaze Almost all of my favorite games and other media have been made in the last 20 years. And most of them wouldn't be possible without modern technology and culture.
I recently discovered Emulation and my friend told me that I'm like Christopher Columbus-- All excited about discovering something everyone already knew was there.
After emulating Metroid zero mission and Metroid Fusion it felt like Christmas Day except that the presents were already there but I hadn’t opened them yet
My local library has been offering physical video game discs for almost a decade, and you can borrow these games for up to three weeks. I've personally bought only four games in the last five years because of it. I will never take my public library for granted. :)
There was a local rent store that sold games for a really good price compared to how expensive games are here in Brazil. It was pretty good, I played and finished a rented Portal 2. I never appreciated it much until I read this comment and realized how good it was. Sadly, the store closed a few years ago
Dunkey has a great point about constantly wanting new games, there’s literally thousands of old games available to play if you have a pc, so why do you need to wait for something new to drop? I think our caveman like brains just gravitate towards stuff that’s shiny and new.
Part of it's FOMO, or wanting to be caught up with the hot new thing everyone's talking about. Case in point, the number of people who tried jumping into Elden Ring without any prior knowledge of FromSoftware titles and got their shit rocked by everything in the game, just because they saw long-time fans loving the game and wanted to be part of the hype train.
@@Irisverse I got it, I dont play I already have other games on my hand but when I do get to play it I expect to get my shit kicked in beacuse its my first software game
@@Irisverse the sad part is that in the current world of gaming, that FOMO is real when it comes to multiplayer games. Nothing is worse than loving a game only for the online multiplayer to be devoid of players.
@@Irisverse Elden was a great game to jump into at the beginning though. It was awesome seeing the community and knowledge develop as I swapped tips with mates.
As someone who actually played old games during the time they were out and new, I play new games now because they're new and I've already played the old games I wanted to play.

Also, emulation has allowed many multiplayer games that used to require you to gather three other friends in front of a TV to be played online. That could be an easy way of updating and monetizing classic titles for the developers, but if they don't want to take that opportunity, then I'm sure the community is more than happy to oblige.
Playing smash ultimate online through Yuzu+parsec is fucking nuts. And also any other split screen game that can be emulated or played on PC, parsec is awesome.

Yep, inflation doesn't account for cost of living. $900 was a lot for an Atari, but people also didn't have $100k in student debt back then. A $60 game is a pretty good price as long as you don't have to pay off a house or student debt.
Dunkey's probably one of the few, if not only channels I might be able to think of that can successfully fill a videos with sarcasm and jokes while also keeping the topic serious and giving insightful observations about today's society in video games.

Dunkey at 3:00 talking about playing older games is exactly how I've always felt. My friends will sometimes give me a hard time for going back go play older games I never played instead of new ones, but I'm just trying to catch up on the games I know are good before I try something I've never heard of
A lot of my friends can't stand old graphics. I'm like who gives a shit? If the gameplay holds up its still a good game. That's why I'm not interested in remasters. I couldn't care less about graphics.
There have been two new Doom engines in the 26 years since Doom / Doom2 / Chex Quest and Chex has still not released a Chex Quest 2 with updated technology.
I'm a 90s kid, i used to buy games with 5 of my friends, so we pay 1/6th the price, there wasn't any hype about new games back then so we just bought what was available in stores and we played eachother's games and we were always entertained .. good times.
Game pricing and development costs have always been so weird. A lot of modern triple A games are more about being a graphical arm's race than games, so most of the development goes into presentation / first impressions and advertising with a bloated scope. Hence it's not uncommon for something to look pretty and be riddled with bugs. People try to suggest that graphics don't matter and they shouldn't prioritize them as much. Which, while not wrong, you also gotta remember the casual consumer and fratboy-gamer types who are buying up those yearly Call of Battlefields and Fifas and don't participate in these kinda discussions, and many people who say that probably do still value graphics more than they imply. And it's not like Triple-A games don't have a place, I just wish they didn't set the standards for everything that isn't an indie title.
You're forgetting one of the major factors; Dev team size. These big AAA studios, instead of hiring GOOD programmers, they just throw lots of shitty programmers at the problem until the game compiles. That's why the games are so buggy. That's also why they suck; good game design can't be brute forced. World of Warcraft was developed with a team of 50 people. Modern AAA games can have team sizes of 150, or even 300, and that's NOT for an MMO! These are huge, bloated teams. The number of directors, producers, and project leaders who can actually coordinate that many people is EXTREMELY LOW, and most of them are either in big business (not video games), or the movie industry. Not games. As for game designers; well there's plenty of good game designers out there; that's where indie gems come from. But they're not being hired by AAA are they?
"Graphics don't matter" - Gamers "THIS FREAKING GAME LOOKS LIKE IT'S 12 YEARS OLD" - Also gamers, whenever a CoD game launches or any other punching bag enters the room
@@mister-BH lol COD is an exception cause the game style hasn’t changed besides guns and maps. Graphics matter but the main reason play COD is just for the run and gun combat and graphics are secondary. Hell we saw a perfect example with the last two Games. Cold War and MW. MW looks a hell of a lot better and sounds way more realistic aswell. But Cold War has superior combat in my opinion. Cold War graphics were no doubt a down grade but people didn’t mind as much because the actually gameplay was superior even though inferior in the graphics department. But if red dead redemptions graphics didn’t look as nice. I wouldn’t play the game. Lots of open world games draw people in simple for the beauty of the world.
"Modern triple A games are more about being a graphical arm's race than games" And I'm so, so sick of it, especially in an era when a graphics card costs more than two consoles. Pushing the graphics envelop is officially now gatekeeping in a crypto world.
It's a bit of a weird video to comment this on but you are a master of your craft dunkey. In an atmosphere of fake ass youtubers and mindless shorts your content shines through. I think when you stop making videos youtube will really be dead. You've provided me with hours of entertainment and I haven't had to pay a dime. I just hope you take pride in your work because you deserve it. You're the sole voice of reason on the platform. Keep it up
i was with you til the sole voice of reason bit, watch lazygamreviews' videos on the state of the sims 4 and nakeyjakey's videos on anything, he's actually why i came to find this video even though i'm already subscribed to dunkey
this video has accomplished: -Microsoft tripling gamepass's price -Nintendo cracking down harder on all listed emulators -Being funni and pleasing me for 8 minutes and 12 seconds
Luckily there is nothing they can do about the emulators. Emulators themselves are totally 100% legal, and don't violate Nintendo's copyright or anything. That's why Nintendo has to go after websites that host ROMs of games, since those actually are illegal to distribute.
For 60$ you can have Knack, Knack 2, Among Us, Valorant, Fortnite, Dunkuza: Like a Dunkey, Overwatch, Overwatch 2, Donkey Kong, Tax Evasion and a ton of other favourite titles for a month. That also includes entire Nintendo games too.
As someone who's recently been spending most of their gaming time playing Galaxy 2 and Ocarina of Time (both for the first time) that section of the video felt validating ☺️
This is one of the reasons I love indie games because they are priced based on what the devs think they are worth. I’ve played a lot of 15 dollar games that I’ve loved way more than Triple A games
It's more like they're priced at the max amount they think they can get away with. Imagine if an indie dev tried to price their game at $60. Would probably be the only game they ever release.
Hey, did you know that in terms of male human and female Pokémon breeding, Vaporeon is actually not the most compatible Pokémon for humans? This is a common and understandable misconception, however Vaporeon has it's human on Pokémon breedability outclassed by it's cousin evolution, Umbreon. Umbreon weights approximately 60 pounds, or around 27 kilograms, and is 3'3" tall (About a meter), making it not only large enough to appropriately handle human genitalia, but also light enough to easily be lifted, and promptly set back down repeatedly. It's relatively small size would also prove a tight entry, which is always a good thing. Umbreon also boasts an extremely impressive defensive stat spread. With it's combination of very high HP, Defense, and Special Defense stats, it can take a great pounding and come back for more! It's ability, Inner Focus, allows it to keep slamming attentively, without getting fatigued. Umbreon also has access to the ability Synchronize, which allows it to share it's current status with you, meaning you will receive all of the pleasure it feels COMBINED with all the pleasure you're getting from pounding this perfect breedable Pokémon. Umbreon also has the capability of seeing perfectly in pitch-black darkness, allowing it to effectively attend a midnight fornication session. Even if you do manage to drain Umbreon's energy with all the furious thrusts, it can recover very quickly with its access to the move Moonlight. Its black fur is also a giant positive attribute, allowing all the excretions you make to be easily seen all over its body. A great fun fact, Umbreon can excrete toxins in its sweat, which would in turn soak into your member and swell it up, making it even more sizable and sensitive. This would not only enhance the experience for you, but for your Umbreon as well (Which with Synchronize, ends up pleasing you exponentially more). Umbreon's wide movepool also supports the hypothesis that Umbreon is the best Pokémon to breed with. It can learn Payback, which doubles in power after the Pokémon is hit, meaning Umbreon with throw it back twice as hard as normally if you're hitting it good. Umbreon can also learn Guard Swap; it could give YOU its insane durability, and go crazy on you all night with your now massive endurance. Speaking of endurance, Umbreon also has access to Endure, making it practically immune to fatigue, it will always have energy left over. Charm is also within Umbreon's movepool, letting it be extremely seductive towards you, easily getting you in the mood. Umbreon can also use Taunt, in turn making you ONLY able to to attacking moves such as Slam, Pound, etc; none of that foreplay shit, right into the action. It also has access to Sleep Talk, giving it the ability to not only give consent in its sleep, allowing access to any of its ports and any time, but also move in it's sleep, making it an effective 24/7 fuckmate. Umbreon still has even more great moves that good to have while smashing, such as Quick Attack, allowing swift slams and bounces, which can have even greater power if Umbreon uses Curse beforehand. Curse would also raise Umbreon's defense, making it able to take powerful thrusting for almost any duration. Looking back, Umbreon's slightly small size ensures a gorilla grip cavity and easy physical manipulation. Its ungodly bulk allows it to take poundings for hours on end and resume after recovering with moonlight (Which works even better when it's sunny). It's access to the abilities Inner Focus and Synchronize allow it to unwaveringly throw it back and add all of its pleasure onto yours, effectively making it twice as amazing as any other Pokémon, or even FOUR TIMES, factoring in the doubled power of payback of course. All of this information in combination with its extremely useful movepool in the world of intercourse makes Umbreon the Pokémon most qualified to breed with humans; able to take dick of any shape, any size, in any position easily for extensive periods of time, while having the ability to return for even more mere seconds later.

Sony: “Remember when games were $60? Yeah, well now they’re $70 or you can wait a year and pick it up for $10.” Xbox: “Hey just give us $15 a month and you can have all the games!” Nintendo: “I don’t care if this game is 9 years old! $60. Take it or leave it.”
When I was in college, on my last presentation, we had to market our own game for our teachers. I was honest with them telling my game wasn't finished. They gave me a very negative response because of that. Though, come to think of it now, me, as a consumer, I would hate if a company wasn't being honest with me trying to sell their low quality unfinished game. Even though their response was negative, I felt good that day, knowing that I was honest with myself and them. I wish more companies were like that.
That is like when I was trying to start my first business and I wanted to sell my art. I told my parents I wanted to show my art around and make money selling it, but they told me not to because I would be doing it for free, I should just make a website and put up my art and get paid. At the time it sounded like they knew a lot more about business than I did and I really wish I could have listened to their advice...
@@kamalindsey I believe that they were just being parents and telling me their piece of advice, but I think it was also an indication of their experience. My parents were always trying to be more successful than them. I remember growing up that my dad always wanted us to have a better car than him, because he drove a shitty car and didn't like it. He was very much into making sure we knew that we were better off financially than him. Even though I think he loved us, I also think he was afraid of our success and wanted to be like us later on, that's why he didn't have a high paying job and had to get a job that he hated, which he did for years. Now I'm married with children of my own and I do the same thing. That's why I think of Brian Chambers, that guy in Dancing with the Stars when he said: "What was the point of my life? I just fell down and hurt myself again." I think of that a lot when I'm working on my own stuff. When you don't know what you want out of life, there's no point. And there's no point in your life. It's always the best time to do what you want to do because if you do what you think other people want you to do, there's no point in doing that, but it's better to do what you want to do because then you know you're happy doing it. I just wish he had shown us a little more compassion and acceptance instead of teaching us how to be successful. I know it was hard for them and I'm sure they thought they were doing the best for us
@@LetsGoGetThem I still don't think your parents made any mistakes, but as your children, I know you feel the way they did. In today's world, it is so hard to be successful at something. Your parents tried to do the best for you, and in their mind, they were successful. At the same time, though, they were teaching you to follow their dreams, but not your own. I know you wish they had been more accepting and said: "You're not going to be good at this, and you are better off doing something else." At least you had your own dream and you were doing something different, but you were still following their dreams and not yours. It is always the least that does the most. Remember that.

My brother and i put well over a hundred hours in that game just laughing our asses off as we took each other out in races or caused massive pileups in the mode where you're SUPPOSED to crash into people, explode, and (though they conveniently never mention it) kill a ton of people in the process all to amass property damage points. No kidding. I knew Burnout 3 as a demo from Need for Speed Most Wanted, and immediately bought that game. Played multiplayer with my brother for like hours, even till midnight when we're on holidays. Best car racing game in my book.
I feel like Nintendo is the dumbest company, they could print money just by porting old games to switch and mobile. And they don't like free advertisement on youtube
The price of retail video games have generally been pretty affordable over the years when you take inflation into consideration. Furthermore, a lot of the retro games have even increased in value so the resale value is great for consumers. HOWEVER, as dunkey has mentioned, it's those $60 half finished games built around microtransactions that don't deserve to be $60. We need to stop buying and pre-ordering those type of games. We are only hurting ourselves. Future gamers would start thinking this is the norm when it isn't.
Thats what Im afraid of. The google play store's free section is riddled with half-assed games that aren't even worth 10 dollars for the amount of content and work thats put into it. And alot of them are flooded with unskippable 15 second ads and 30 second ad "boosts" to give you a temporary advantage. They even make you wait an extra 5 seconds after the ad is over for the close button to appear. And the "diamonds" or "gems" and gachas is where they really attempt to hit your pockets. I hope that isnt what most games turn into.
@@Moses255337 sadly it seems that it is, with developers looking to the future of mobile gaming we will see more micro transactions not less.. the last time I preordered a game was for halo 4 and boy was I let down . My only gripe with what you said is how retro games resale value have INCREASED and how that's GREAT for consumers. it just seems a bit oxymoronic, considering something being cheap would be better for consumers, not more expensive (making it harder for more people to even think it's possible to ever play the game for themselves).
Game Pass is such a game changer, much less risk to play a ton of random games you never would have. I feel like people will go from playing like 3-4 games a year to MUCH more
Problem is with that system for me, I never take these games seriously. I never payed for them. I don't have invested anything, but click "install". Best way to save money these days while still indulging the "need moar games" beast: Hang back by about a year. Most new games that aren't from Nintendo drop their prices like they have an expiration date, you (usually) avoid broken-at-launch games, most or all of the DLC is out already, and reviews get more honest after the kneejerk love/hate phase.
@Estrogen Fury You dolt, Knack isn't a "game". It's an artform. A way of life. Not picking it up on day one is essentially like committing murder, if you really think about it (but please don't think about it actually, just trust me). In fact, if you manage to somehow acquire the newest Knack release earlier and for a higher price than most, the holy polygonal overlords will be pleased with you and bestow you with free sknacks!
Ironically the 1 year fortnite company what's it called exclusive has made me do this anyway. Well, except they think it's cool to sell it at full price sometimes regardless.
I've really been taking the "You don't need the latest stuff" at heart. I have a crapton of backlog game I never played because I just kept buying new stuff. Emulating is completely legal for games you own. And even though emulating games you don't own isn't strictly legal, as long as you're not the one distributing, it's very unlikely that anyone will take you to court for it. Big companies tell us that it's illegal. They want us to be scared to do it. But the truth is that they can't possibly afford to take all the people that do it to court for it. As Big G says, piracy is a service problem. Most people will be more than willing to buy a game if it's available, accessible, and appropriately priced.
Like with the music industry, it's a service problem for major publishers. Piracy is less noble when you're taking advantage of an indie creator to save yourself three or four dollars in a hobby that, _very unlike the music industry,_ has a 3-to-4 digit barrier for entry. At a certain point, an unwillingness to pay for games can raise questions about your own character, not that we should be gearing the industry around trying (and usually failing) to punish such people.
I think emulation is also a great way to play your old games without having the right console, screen, cables and controllers on hand. Like, I'm a big fan of a lot of PS2 stuff, especially God Hand, and I can play that shit anytime with upscaled res and a controller meant for adult hands, damn bro sign me in right now
Nah. It you illegally download any ROM, even if you own it, then what you are doing is illegal. However, emulation is 100% legal [at least in the US] Yet, the thing is, no one knows for sure if you or the distributor could be held accountable if you download illegal ROMs. That is because the law isn't clear and there has been no court ruling that shows what is right and wrong. So there is a lot of gray are here. Source: "Emulation, the Law, and You: Where the Hobby Ends and Crime Begins" by Nerrel

Shoutout to the emulation community, the coders who made the emulators and gave them away for free, the people who ripped and shared the ROMs, the translators who made Japanese exclusive games available to the English world (the OG Dejap).
Just a little context for those older games: the skill required to produce a game was extremely high. Older consoles were greatly restricted, having very little graphics and processing capability. Just to fit a game and make it playable, coders had to produce games in the console's assembly language and often used every little bit of space available on a cartridge. And after all of that, the game usually sucked mega bongo. Imagine making a game actually fun like that. *TLDR:* If coding a game today is like manufacturing a toaster, then coding back then was like manufacturing a rocket ship.
I like this analogy because (as with games) while I appreciate the gap in complexity between the two, I still wouldn't have a clue how to make either of them - only toast.
@@davidhong1934 You really couldn't run Halo on a TI-80. Reason Doom works is because it's 2D. You could possibly make a new Halo game for TI-80 though using many of the same techniques.
If you work at a larger company you can end up with game engine coders and game coders. One works on the coding needed for the game engine to work properly and the other works on making sure the game works right.
Tbf, the best part of the game has been available for 3 years. The full release that came out this year’s content was far weaker so honestly not sure how I feel about it winning GOTY and early access games in general
@@lukebytes5366 It's because their ports/remakes, with the exception of their Zelda remasters on the Wii U and the Switch version of Mario Odyssey, offer minimal to no improvements over the originals other than an upscaled resolution and maybe an option for gyro controls, but Nintendo still feels all of them are worth $60 even in cases where they were permanently slashed to a fraction of that in the past (New Super Mario Bros. U, Pikmin 3, Donkey Kong Frozen Ape) or launched at less than $60 when they originally came out (Skyward Sword). Nintendo gets criticized for it, but it doesn't matter because everyone knows that they're gonna buy it day one regardless because Nintendo games almost never drop in value, especially on the collector's market. Nintendo gets to keep overcharging for their ports and raking in millions of dollars, and consumers still have to choose between paying $60 to play an old game on Switch or digging out an old console and paying ridiculous aftermarket prices for games like Mario Sunshine or Skyward Sword.

Seriously, it is unbelievably fun to go into a second hand shop and just pick up a handful of any old titles that grab your eye. And it ends up costing half the price of a newly released Ubisoft game.
50 bucks on the abay used section are gonna get you further than 100 bucks on the eshop. Being able to find shit like mg3 for less than 10 bucks is insane
Incorrect. It was a 15 dollar game that became a 40 dollar game after all 5 of the free DLC came out. I kinda share your sentiment though. I loved the crap out of Star Allies, but that day one 60 dollar purchase still hurts in my soul knowing it was unfinished.
I got the game when it first came out. I was so disappointed with how boring it was, that playing it once all the dlc came out wouldn't have mattered to me. I also hated how fast Hyness spoke. It added to the feeling of "yeah, yeah just beat the game already"
Star Allies was one of my biggest gaming disappointments ever. I was so hyped for it after I played and loved Robobot. I convinced myself that it was going to be the greatest Kirby game of all time.
A thing to consider with the 'standard' price having remained the same despite the drop in purchase power/inflation, is that the 'market' has been growing at an explosive rate, with far more available buyers. That eats the cost fairly well, meaning the per-unit costs don't need to keep up. That's not even touching the crapshow of 'microtransactions' and other abusive methods of monetization. Video games have never been a more profitable industry, it's just a shame that the AAA industry refuses to actually innovate or take risks, and instead just pours stupid amounts of money into graphical increases and marketing, as opposed to actually just making better games using that same money.
Number of available buyers didn’t change that much though. Playstation 2 is still the most popular console of all time. PS4 and Xbox One combined barely outsold it
@@neomedved Are you seriously trying to compare lifetime sales against shorter term ones from consoles that haven't been out as long? While the PS3 came out in 2006, the PS2 was still selling up through 2010 at least. The PS2 also padded it's stats by functioning as a 'cheap' media center/dvd player in addition to a games console, at a time when it's competition didn't. Seriously though, if you actually look at sales data, you see a general upward trend in volume of units sold over time, with the exceptions of the occasional console/handheld that didn't really have solid competition, who act as outliers. Things like NES, the DS family (which isn't far behind the PS2 iirc) and other things that occupied a market space where there was no real competition. In fact, if we combine the sales numbers for PS2, XBOX, and Gamecube, we see about 200 million units in sales. Combining just Switch and PS4, we see somewhere around 220 million. Add in the other 'current' consoles in the form of the PS5, Xbox one X, and Xbox Series X, you will see another 90 mil or so, bringing it up over 300 million. Which is with the newness and shortages of the PS5 and Series X resulting in them not having any viable sales numbers. This, of course, doesn't even touch on the PC market, where it is DRASTICALLY harder to get numbers at all. Hell, let's go back to the generation right after the PS2, with the Wii, PS3, and 360. You end up with a combined total of around 270 million. It is uncontestable fact that the market has grown DRASTICALLY since the 90s. To say it hasn't is really quite silly.

I mean that's cool,it outsold dmc4 but cod black ops 4?sold 14.3 million, despite the controversy and lack of campaign mode and were talking of 2 games that are cross platforms, devil may cry should shoot themselves up in sales after opening up beyond playstation the point or tldr of whatever, experimentation in gaming died and the community has fucking killed it ps:notice I'm not talking about their status because as I said,no company does this for fun,it's a business first and regardless of how much a game is considered a classic or cult status,it doesn't compensate for the investment made back when it came out

@@TheLegendsmith they’re not necessarily shitty programmers, they’re extremely overworked programmers.

Cold War graphics were no doubt a down grade but people didn’t mind as much because the actually gameplay was superior even though inferior in the graphics department. As a creative myself, I find it depressing to think about how dramatically those devs undervalued their own work :ThisIsFine:

2:27 It's kinda funny how this aged, I would have never expected an early access game to win the goty one day
When I was in college, on my last presentation, we had to market our own game for our teachers.
@@LetsGoGetThem I mean your parents shouldn't have said that, dude. Not really cool...
You were ahead of your time. Not being finished with a game is now the model, not the exception.

We are only hurting ourselves. Future gamers would start thinking this is the norm when it isn't.

…and movie “Pirates”
game is actually too fun as fucked up as it is and has been.
I just can't deal with the fact that he called it "more polished and replayable than any BF or CoD" when games like Bad Company 2, Cod2-4 exist. Just a drop of a dumbass dunkey opinion in a sea of truth.
@@pedesettrik He's talking about the multiplayer, not singleplayer campaigns.
However, emulation is 100% legal [at least in the US]
Yet, the thing is, no one knows for sure if you or the distributor could be held accountable if you download illegal ROMs. That is because the law isn't clear and there has been no court ruling that shows what is right and wrong. So there is a lot of gray are here.
Source: "Emulation, the Law, and You: Where the Hobby Ends and Crime Begins" by Nerrel
emulating is good, if i wanna play persona 3 and dont have a ps3 or ps2 i HAVE to use an emulator. Since playstation doesnt like putting older games on newer consoles
Or better yet games you usted to own
"Games are cheaper and more accessible today than ever before"

you guys shouldn't complain, at least you got master systems still being produced
Kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk true, here one Nintendo game is 300 "reais" and the playstation five games are 360 "reais", reais is our money to be clear
Se vc converter, o preço ta certo msm. Considerando dolar 5,50, um jogo de 60 dolares da quase 350. Com os jogos novos chegando a 70 doletas, cobrarem 350 por eles ta barato ate
@@icepick2407 dawg, in iraq ps2 and xbox 360 games costed less than $1, we also had cracked ps3s and ps4s where you can download as many games as you want (given that you have a good hard drive)
Yeah, Im from Colombia and while buying games from steam is REALLY cheap, getting the machine to run those games can cost months of work
Dunkey, it''s been a while since I watched your videos and you my man are a gentleman and a scholar! Also the relest gamer of all time! Thank you for your work!
Finally, something we can all agree on. Emulation is epic
3rd world gamers rejoice!!
Everyone but Nintendo.
Shoutout to the emulation community, the coders who made the emulators and gave them away for free, the people who ripped and shared the ROMs, the translators who made Japanese exclusive games available to the English world (the OG Dejap).
Hell yeah, and more modern and less legal emulation too!
It’s because of emulation that we have copies of Prototype Yoshis island roms and alpha pre release sonic 1 builds.
Today, you could program Halo on a TI-80, and it'd probably run decently.
This is helpful context, thanks for the reminder!
This is gonna be legendary up there with video game difficulty.
Dunkley is always on point. It's fun to watch, this dude is consistently great.

Tbf, the best part of the game has been available for 3 years. The full release that came out this year’s content was far weaker so honestly not sure how I feel about it winning GOTY and early access games in general
Dunky low-key calling out Nintendo at the end like “Hey, remake or port your old games or else emulation is here to stay”
The funny thing is that they've been doing that, and there being criticized for the most part.
@@LordArikado the switch version of Mario odyssey? Mario Odyssey is a switch exclusive mate
Skyward sword HD isn't more expensive than the original price actually
It's the same price
50$ in 2011 is about 61$ todqy
I find that funny for some reason
Mario sunshine? Yes
Skyward sword (wii)? Not really
It's usually about 40$ and it comes with a 25th anniversary soundtrack
The problem is if you don't have a wii/wii-u and a motion plus wii remote
Those will cost you a lot
All that to play a worse version
So at that point just get the HD remaster
Also here is the thing tbo.. While I definitely don't agree on the pricing of wii-u ports
What more improvements do you want.. Exactly?
The wii-u and the switch have very similar power level (even tbo the wii-u is actually more powerful in some areas)
So.. What improvements other than QOL improvements and the added DLC do you want?
Edit: also what the other guy meant is criticizing how many ports Nintendo is doing
A lot of us are sick of how many they are doing
I especially feel bad for wii-u owners lol
We don't need remake!/ports
We just need the virtual console back

As much as I love Kirby, Star Allies was like a $15 game not $60
I remembered being pissed with how short that game was! Made me wish that they ported super star ultra or something
Fortunately for me, I got Star Allies after all the updates, but it's still not worth $60 imo
2:27 It's interesting seeing that Baldur's Gate 3 wasn't so beloved before it came out
A thing to consider with the 'standard' price having remained the same despite the drop in purchase power/inflation, is that the 'market' has been growing at an explosive rate, with far more available buyers. That eats the cost fairly well, meaning the per-unit costs don't need to keep up.
That's not even touching the crapshow of 'microtransactions' and other abusive methods of monetization.
Video games have never been a more profitable industry, it's just a shame that the AAA industry refuses to actually innovate or take risks, and instead just pours stupid amounts of money into graphical increases and marketing, as opposed to actually just making better games using that same money.
orrrr we can notice that minimum wages haven't increased either so the average gamer can afford a game about as easily as before
Number of available buyers didn’t change that much though.
@@neomedved Mobile and PC games are where the market's expanded my dude. Minecraft and Among Us alone probably have more than 500 million downloads between them
well you can't blame companies for not going full early 2000s and experiment like they did back then when so many that did collapsed and broke
friendly reminder that games like okami or super mario sunshine were considered flops back in the day, heck, resident evil 4 was on that route until capcom broke the deal and ported it to ps2 against the wishes of mikami who considered the GameCube as the superior platform
now exclusive is another concept that has died, now a days you can count them with your hands but back then that word meant something, developers could experiment with game mechanics, design and more when they only had to code the game for 1 platform bug when you want it to be cross platform you have to replace that with engines, making them look good the more invest on the engine but also risky to make something innovative
wich leads to the previous point, sales
nobody does this for fun,for as fun that 1 eternal darkness or fatal frame might be,they don't sell as much as super Mario wii,and even the safe bets aren't safe, for as crazy that devil may cry 5 might been it sold 3.7 million by February of 2020,almost a year after launch... I mean that's cool,it outsold dmc4 but cod black ops 4?sold 14.3 million, despite the controversy and lack of campaign mode
and were talking of 2 games that are cross platforms, devil may cry should shoot themselves up in sales after opening up beyond playstation
the point or tldr of whatever, experimentation in gaming died and the community has fucking killed it
ps:notice I'm not talking about their status because as I said,no company does this for fun,it's a business first and regardless of how much a game is considered a classic or cult status,it doesn't compensate for the investment made back when it came out
I find it strange that people don’t know how how many amazing games are available if they are willing to give older games a chance. You don’t need nostalgia to enjoy them. A truly great game is great forever.
I finsihed ocarina of time for the First time And its my favorite game now
I always debated whats the best but now its not even a debate
If you know where to look you'd never have to pay for another game again

Many of those game aged poorly in my opinion, i rarely can finished pre ps2 game
