Kevin Bludso, founder of the world-famous Bludso's BBQ restaurant, opened up about his upbringing and journey to success. Born and raised in Compton, California, to a police officer father and a mother who was a Black Panther sympathizer, Bludso said he gained a different perspective on life spending summers in Texas. At nine, he began working at his grandmother's illegal barbecue spot in Texas, which inspired his career path. He attended college, worked as a DJ, and catered on the side before landing a job with the Department of Corrections. However, after being let go, he returned to what he knew best - food. After opening his own catering company, he leveraged this experience (and recipes he learned as a child) to set up his now-famous restaurant in 2008, hoping to create a legal and successful business.

My family is from Atlanta, Texas which is about 30 miles from Hooks. My grandmother had to leave Texas because of a somewhat similar incident there, and head West to California.
This my family & I didn’t even know why our family came from Texas till now!

If y’all watch. Lad enough he will have y’all thinking Compton is some sort of hell hole. I just sat a clip on IG about a house in Compton going for 600k. It was a regular house, but still. I know Cody of living is high as hell, but the house wasn’t run down and neither were any of those around it.

Kevin Bludso (born 1965) is an American chef, restaurateur, and television personality. Bludso was born in 1965 in Compton, California. His father was a police officer at the Los Angeles Police Department; his mother was a postal service worker. While on summer vacation, Bludso lived with his aunt, Willie Mae Fields, in Corsicana, Texas. Fields introduced him to Texas-style barbecue; at the age of 9 or 10, Bludso was allowed to help with the cooking. He studied business at the Dallas-based Bishop College. Source Wikipedia

I met him this past October through “Deliah’s Everyday Soul” cooking for his book signing in Atlanta. I had no idea who he was, he came back in the kitchen chopped it up, told me to watch his oxtails cooking for him lol, super cool, very humble dude. I also got his book as well which has insane recipes in it. Low and slow baby! 💪🏾💯

I visited Compton in May of last year as part of my vacation from work, nothing seemed out the ordinary, but next time I travel out there from the Bay Area, I'll have to try that bbq spot, I like me some Texas bbq.
Living there is a different story.
I ate many places in La when it comes to bbq and his is by far the best.
