I'm glad I tried KG, but it wasn't exceptional. I had the brisket, lamb, kofta, ribs, and sausage. They were ok, but there are a lot of truly good places in Austin and with brisket at $34/lb you have better options. The best thing on the menu was the rice bowl.

I was in Austin recently (actually waited in line with Andy and his crew at Franklin!) and KG BBQ was the best bite of food I had there, period. Was talking to Andy and his crew and asking them other places they hit up and they all recommended KG BBQ. I had been wanting to try but forgot to include it in my itinerary, so I have Andy and the crew to thank!

As a Texan, I greatly appreciate this video. In Texas, north south east west central, the bbq is all a little different but all good. The main things I hope hit home are 3 things: keep it simple, have good quality meat and let your meat and wood do the talking, and have good side dishes

Aussie bbq is just so basic - sausages, rissoles or lamb chops in bread and tomato sauce (maybe with coleslaw and onion). Nothing too wrong with it especially because the meat is really high grade in Aus compared to some countries, but yes it's nothing compared to Texas BBQ in terms of flavour.

As a native one spot you missed out on was definitely Leroy and Lewis BBQ. They're a bit of a hidden gem unless your a local, so don't blame you for not knowing about that spot. The must have item on there is the Bacon Rib. Not something you can eat every week, but definitely something I would eat if I flew in to town just for it. The sides there are also good which I can't say for most Texas BBQ places. Also Texas in general has amazing fusion food, so glad it got some representation with KG BBQ.

Great video! It's always fun to watch somebody enjoy for the first time what I grew up eating. The best barbeque I ever had was at a Baptist church in Huntsville, TX. They served lunch on Saturday and the line was a mile long every time.

I teared up a little, watching this video. You could have easily made this 5 or 6 separate videos. I'm glad you had a good visit to Texas! This was a real pleasure to watch. Keep doing what you're doing!

That last place was so surprising. A spin on barbecue. Texas meets Egypt. And it even looked amazing coming off a food truck.

Loved it Andy! Best mate & I were at Terry Blacks in Austin a few weeks ago and BBQ was as good as you described! Lucky enough to go to other places in Amarillo & Waco! BBQ is good everywhere in Texas! Have been cooking Texas BBQ at home for several years and was good to see mine was pretty close to what we had!
