    Bash the CVT all you want, but it's the smartest transmission on the market. They have improved massively since Audi's Multitronic CVT that was rubbish. Now they do simulate gears, it's the most efficient in terms of fuel because it keeps the engine in the perfect rev range, that helps the boxer because it's not the most efficient engine, it's smooth and buttery, fairly reliable, especially since Toyota has 17% of Subaru and Toyota's CVT is bulletproof. It's not sporty like ZF's 8HP or Porsche PDK that shifts in a blink, but it's the best for E Class size sedan that's good for cruising, not for raping around a track. It's a lot of car for that money, way better value for money than german cars, awesome for a family with kids.

    I'm a Subaru owner, but I strongly believe most Subarus like the Legacy need an exterior refresh. They look very dated, very early 2000s styling. They don't need extreme sharp lines like some of the competition like an Accord or Camry, but this looks like it hasn't undergone a significant design change in over a decade. No one is buying a Legacy because it's catching their eye.

    • @persiashahdi5215
      @persiashahdi5215 4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      I don't see how it looks dated. It doesn't look super sporty or sharp but it certainly doesn't look early 2000s at ALL. I'm hard pressed to find any early or even late 2000s car that looks like the latest gen Legacy.

    The '19 was kind of the sweet spot for me. The tech is nice but not overwhelming. The styling and performance is very desirable for the price point. The CVT is...well, it's a transmission. The average person (like me) who cares that it gets you places is not going to mind. Not sure how I feel about the touchscreen eating up the dash on the '20, but it's at least not bad looking. If you threw a Lexus badge on the thing, you probably wouldn't blink an eye at another $10-20k being added on to the price tag.

    Here we go with the next load of stupidity, vertical screens. It’s like these automakers have no UX people on staff. They love it just because it’s the most like a center stack...just slap a screen there. Vertical screens are good for hand held devices so the bottom half of the screen is right underneath your fingers and can be used for input while the top half is for display. For a center stack where input requires taking your eyes off the road and looking down, it’s obviously not the right application. Do they give it any thought? Nope. It looks cool so let’s do it!

    The fact that i could buy 2 of my car plus 2 sets of tires for the same price as replacing the cvt in one of these should be enough to scare anyone away from subaru. The tranamissions are weaker than wet tissue. The very concept of their design makes them almost incapable of handling the stresses and torque of any modern vehicle. Even if that doesnt bug you, the replacement cost of when it finally DOES grenade is 8000 dollars. That is absolutely absurd

    • @sunshadow9704
      @sunshadow9704 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If the CVT fails during the lease term, it is 100% covered by the warranty. Nowdays, most of the folks lease the vehicles. As a matter of fact, I know no one who owns the vehicle in last 5 years. Lease only. Thus your concerns despite maybe valid, only apply to very limited set of general population. Plus, you can buy extended warranty which cost ~ 2K, thus 8K is not realistic cost of CVT replacement.

    This was a great video! My first Subie was a Legacy and I’ve owned an Outback and Forester as well. Happy to see the Lane Centering is effective, wish my 2019 Foz had it. Like you I also disable the AutoStartStop out of comfort (I feel the jarring sensation as well) and also disabled the overly chirpy Lane Departure Warning.
    Hopefully they can iron out the kinks of it in the next year or two.
    So, since the XT at this trim level pushes 40k after taxes and fees, would there be any reason to really consider this over something like a Tesla Model 3 LR AWD, assuming you had the ability to charge at home/work? You’re looking at a savings of around $4000 every 5 years in fuel costs with the Model 3.

    Wow how unique a tablet makes up the whole interior of the car how creative even though it looks like shit and every auto maker in 2020 is doing it. I guess why worry about interior design when you can just mount a tablet on the dash and be done ?? These cars are trash these are not Subarus, If you want to see what people are talking about when they say Subarus are some of the greatest cars out there you have to find one from 07 or before. Otherwise your car will just say Subaru on it and be like every other piece of crap on the road today. All cars in 2020 suck for mile long list of reasons and unfortunately Subaru is no exception. I’ve always been a big Subaru fan this is hard to watch. 🤧
